I was given a bid to remove a broken leg for one of our rescued dogs, but Dr. Hunter assured me he could repair the leg. He convinced us to keep her back left. Knowing that we are a dog rescue we had to raise money for this large bill. We did the surgery with Dr. Hunter and had that poor girl in a cast for months per his instructions. All along we were continuing to raise money and make regular payments as agreed. This bill was around $2000 which later I found was inflated for that kind of surgery at the time. Most vets were charging around $800 once I was smart enough later to do some bids but again he was our vet at the time. I was scheduled THREE different times to remove the cast after she healed up. Dr. Hunter would not remove it! The first two times he said she was not healed up enough. Mind you it is a 30 mile one way trip in winter. The third time when I was sitting in his exam room with the dog for what I thought quick surgery to remove her cast ONLY THEN did Dr. Hunter tell me he would not remove her cast if we did not pay our bill in full right then! Again we were making around $200 payments every month and folks were donating directly to the vet's office on our behalf for this bill. I later found out many of our direct donations were not applied to our account so who knows where those donations went. I was astounded and offended that vet was holding that dog and us hostage! He made us drive and wait in his tiny waiting room three times before he told me why he was not removing her cast. But that day, we left as we had already paid for the surgery and removal of the cast with our payments. He only did half the services as agreed so we only paid half of the bill. The poor dog needed her cast removed two months before and her leg fused because Dr. Hunter did not keep his word to us. Later when we took her to the hospital at WSU they said she never should of had the surgery in the first place with the break that high in her leg. That leg should of been removed. And her casr should of been removed within the first month not waiting three months as we were told in person directly from Dr. Hunter. Now the poor dog has a leg that will not bend thanks to that evil person's greed and lying to us in the first place about how she was a good candidate for walking again on that leg, etc. We were able to adopt her but they call her Hopalong as a joke. Her quality of life is greatly diminished and she is still three legged thanks to very bad surgery and lack of any after care by this vet We had pulled this girl from a local shelter after she was hit by a car and we would of put her down but the vet agreed he would help and take those payments. So we raised money for months for her vet bills so it was not like we were going to flake on the bill. We were making those payments as agreed and we had never changed vets until they run us over like this time with Dr. Hunter. We had a history of paying our vet bills with him already with past dogs taken to him so his demand of immediate payment made no sense whatsoever. Of course that jerk turned us into collections for services left undone. Later, I had to get the vet at WSU to explain to collections that we should not of paid anything on the bill much less half when the surgery was ineffective and so badly done in the first place. The collections company finally dropped the harassment of us after six months of us telling them that we owed him less than nothing and we would not pay one more dime. I did not ask the jerk for a refund but I also let the planet know that Dr. Hunter is the most dishonest, rude, callous person that I have ever met in my 25 years of dog rescuing. Dr. Hunter has ZERO with his bedside manners as well. He is rude to the people and their pets and jerks them around like they are just things. Most vets allow dogs or the animals to sniff or does a kind word, etc. before they start poking and prodding away. Not this guy. He looks as animals as dollars only. He made us muzzle every single dog we brought to him even when they were beyond sweet. If people go anywhere else in Spokane and you will find someone who actually loves animals when being veterinarians. Just because someone inherits a vet business from their family does not make them a kind nor a caring person or even qualified for their job. If we could rate lower we certainly would. read more

Hunter Veterinary Clinic was recommended to us as we were in need of Bladder Surgery for one of our dogs. After doing our research and contacting 4 different Veterinarians we decided to make the 5 hour drive from Kelowna, BC to Spokane for the surgery. We have been nothing but thrilled with not only the care and compassion we received from the entire staff, both over the phone and in person. The entire time their professionalism and commitment to meeting our needs and the needs of our pet have been evident. When we called the clinic, Dr. Mark Schrag spoke with us over the phone for 15 mins. to let us know what would need to happen and the steps that would be taken in the surgery as well as what the recovery would look like. We felt confident that going to this Hunter Veterinary Clinic would be the right choice. They were not the lowest cost, but nowhere near the most expensive either. After the surgery, Dr. Mark Schrag met with us to explain what had happened during the surgery, he walked us through it, told us what he did, what to expect in the recovery phase, he took the time to show us the X-Rays. He asked us if we had any questions for him. He was calm, reassuring and informative. He took time to communicate with us and was in no hurry to move us along and get to other business. Once we told him we were ready, he brought us our dog and spent time with us, making sure we were comfortable enough to leave. The next day, one of the ladies at the front desk called us to make sure we had returned home safely and to check on how our dog was recuperating. Three days later on a Friday evening at 7pm, Dr. Schrag called us to check on our dog and make sure she was recuperating as planned. Two weeks after surgery, our dog was showing some physical signs we were concerned about so we took pictures of her and emailed Dr. Schrag at 5:30 pm, not expecting a return call or email until the next morning. Low and behold at 7:45 that evening Dr. Schrag called us and talked to us about what he saw in the pictures and the course of action to take. With the information he provided and the subsequent treatment, our dog was back on track that night. We have had many, many pets over the years and not once have we had a Vet call us at home outside of business hours. Dr. Schrag goes the extra mile and then some. Not only is the clinic accommodating, Dr. Schrag and his staff understand that they are working with families and pets are in turn members of our family. They know that there is an emotional attachment. They give you options and let you know that there are different steps to take and they let you make an informed decision. We are constantly impressed beyond words with Dr. Schrag and Hunter Veterinary Clinic and cannot recommend them any higher than to say that, other clinics need to realize that this clinic is the standard with which we will hold them to. this is a post I wish I didn't have to make. but I must. right now this is my situation that hunters veterinary clinic has given me and my cat (WITHOUT NOTICE) and without prior communications of the legal fact (according to hunters vet clinic), that they legally cannot re-prescribe the medicine that keeps my cat alive and some what comfortable with the condition my cat has (according to hunters vet after being seen) and seen three times within this yr. what is the legal description for an annual check-up? i mean really - come on ...seen once or seen again the outcome IS going to be the same as it was when seen the first time means how my cats condition is what is eventually going to get the best of him. i mean when his condition got worse a few months back, and i called in my cats behavior to this vet he said to just 'up' the dosage , i did, and it worked ....so? what now i legally have to make an appt. for cats checkup that costs 45 $ and wait til that appt. date to come about first when i first have to wait for my ssdi check to come in on the 1st first . if i had known any of this prior ?? i can tell you honestly i certainly would not be putting my self , my cat, or this place out there like this. my cat does not have any meds left as of a day ago now?? seriously are u kidding me right now? what now watch my cat die. HOW does a person do that? not to mention the other facts of this matter, i am sitting here right now telling myself why would i have to go on with this when the real facts are already out there. pretty in human and then some . I have nothing but great things to say about Hunter Veterinary Clinic. I took my last Dog there until the ripe age of 15. Last year I took the leap and got a puppy, he is now 15 months old, and his Vet is Dr Hunter. He has undergone shoulder surgery, and been in the office several times, everyone is extremely knowledgeable. There are Short Term Veterinarians that have come and gone throughout the years, however, each and every one of them were great. We must keep in mind that when we make a trip to a Vet Clinic, there may a be pet who's life ended there minutes before, and then there may be a 12 week old puppy who is just beginning. In addition, I believe Dr Hunter is, and has been rated # 1 Veterinarian for many years. read more

I can not say enough good things about this clinic. They are always there to help me with questions and concerns. My dog Suki passed away with a sudden onset of an enlarged heart in December. It was the hardest decision I have ever made to have her put to sleep. Dr. Schrag and her staff were so compassionate and understanding. When it comes to our animals I am over the top concerned and I never felt bothersome. I also brought in a pregnant stray kitty in and they helped me with all my questions and always get back to me. Seeing my parakeet getting sicker and sicker, I had no idea where to take him until someone told me to go to Hunter Veterinary Clinic. I am very glad I did! Dr. Scrag is very good with birds. The whole staff is friendly. From what I have observed is that they treat every animal as if it was their very own. The one thing that I was most impressed with, was that there was no animal shelter odor in the lobby or the examination room. This is the best vet clinic in all of spokane. When my boy cat got bladder stones they let me bring him right in and got to work with him immediately. They were patient and calm despite the state I was in due to my panic. These are kind and generous people and I only go to them even though it's way out of my way. Money above pet welfare. Dishonest about faxing prescriptions to online distributor for medication as to keep owner beholden to pointless PVOR exams. Also, they immediately suggested eye surgery for the third lid slippage that was cured with drops in a week. Avoid them. read more
