Update #HunterCommunications has confirmed they are applying the $60 month I paid in advance and considering the account settled. I appreciate the professional closeout, and I want to note that publicly. For context, my decision to leave was based on a longer pattern, not a single ticket. Over roughly a year and a half, I dealt with recurring instability and spent a lot of time troubleshooting on my side and working with support. I replaced equipment early on and kept trying to make it work, but reliability never reached the level I need. The last straw was a customer engagement issue. I made a LinkedIn post describing what I was experiencing. A company leader commented on the post, but the response was directed toward another commenter and not to me, the customer who raised the issue. That moment clarified where the consumer experience sat in the priority stack, at least from my perspective. On December 12, 2025 I took the equipment offline due to reliability concerns, returned it on December 17, 2025, and moved back to Xfinity. In my environment, stability returned immediately after the change. I also want to give credit where it is due. Aleas (pronounced "ah-lee-s," and I apologize if I have the spelling slightly off) made me feel like I mattered as a customer in this situation. Jennifer did as well. In my professional estimation, both deserve a raise. The only other positive experience I had was the installer, who was a genuinely friendly and professional guy. I am sharing this as a factual update for anyone researching providers. I appreciate Hunter resolving the billing cleanly. At the same time, based on my experience, I cannot recommend their consumer service for situations where consistent reliability and direct customer communication are critical. I hope they continue improving the consumer side, because the infrastructure can be strong, and the customer experience should match it. *********** Original Review Based on my experience, it is my professional recommendation not to buy Hunter Communications fiber service for residential use. I paid a month in advance, spent about a year and a half troubleshooting stability problems, and ultimately had to go back to Xfinity to get reliable service again. I am a Technical Consultant with 30+ years in support, hardware, and software, and I exhausted every reasonable step on my side before giving up on their connection. Hunter knows their equipment has been offline at my location since the 11th, yet they are keeping the month I paid in advance and are now trying to charge me roughly another $100 on top of that. From what I can tell, somewhere around 95% of their revenue comes from government and enterprise contracts. Any business they lose on the consumer side does not appear to affect their bottom line in a meaningful way. They grew up servicing government clients and, in my opinion, they operate like a government contractor, with the same IT and responsiveness shortcomings I have seen in that world. To be fair, the customer service representatives I spoke with generally seemed to care and tried to help. My concern is with upper management and policy. In my view, they show very little interest in doing what is right for consumer-level customers, even when the service has been unstable and that fact is well documented. read more

I used to have Mac Online for internet service and they were perfect. They sent someone the same day or the day after and repaired the line perfectly. Since Hunter bought them, I've had nothing but trouble. The expect a 78-year-old woman to dig a trench for the cable. The dish is 100 ft. from the house. It's only to cover the cabel, probably 3 inches deep. WHY couldn't then do it? The one time I called for a repair, they took a week to send someone. When I finally canceled, they stole $103 for the next billing cycle saying some garbage about how they couldn't refund me because it was for the month coming up. WHAT? Then they said they couldn't give me the money due that I didn't use. THEN they hung up. I could take them to small claims, but that's way too much time to waste. Don't use Hunter. I got T-Mobile that just plugs in, is less than half the price and works perfectly. read more

Usually I save my five star reviews for very special restaurants but these five stars go to a fabulous local group of technicians and staff who help me save hundreds of dollars a year while getting internet and streaming service of a high quality no national company could ever hope to deliver. Today when Apple was baffled by a problem with Apple software I took a chance and called Hunter to see if they had a suggestion. Miles was the human who answered the phone. No waiting. Unlike the Apple tech I had talked to earlier, Miles listened and suggested solutions. Then he connected me to Kyle who solved (the non related to Hunter) problem. I am so glad these folks are here. So glad I left Comcast. So glad I'm getting great service at a fraction of the cost. read more

Had some issues getting connected initially and felt like I was getting the run-around, but, after some calls and complaining online, the Area Installation Manager Jesse Carpenter drove out 3 hours and personally oversaw installation with Colt (and another whose name I unfortunately forgot) to its completion. Service so far seems to be fast and reliable and, barring installation issues, I would recommend Hunter to anyone within their service area-- especially at just $60/mo. read more

If you need good internet and like to support your local community then this is your company. They have changed names through the years but the internet connection has always been exceptional. They don't even require wires to your home either. Don't get this confused with satellite internet which is the worst out there. This company can give you uninterrupted streaming service on multiple devices plus still be able to play your favorite online game. Miles in particular is very responsive and easy to work with so ask for him. read more

I live in Junction City and had Unwired West as my satellite internet option from May 2014-October 2015. Where I lived Comcast came up the road towards me but stopped about a mile and a half short. From the other direction, CenturyLink's DSL option was 1/4 mile short. Needing internet for my kids, I gave Unwired a shot. AJ in sales was very good. Explained their plans. They are very, very expensive. Most satellite internet is. I went with the 70 GB allowance per month (does not roll over) and up to 9 Mbps speed. It was normally $100 that I was getting for $80. For the most part, the internet worked. I never came close to 9 Mbps, though. Even connected to my router I could never get more than 6 and that was extremely rare. I never had upload speeds over 1 Mbps. My average internet speed was around 1.2 download and 700 kbps upload. So a lot of things had trouble working on a regular basis. Netflix would buffer. I always had the slowest connection in any internet gaming. But for general website surfing, it worked okay. (Although be aware that you cannot use Netflix's HD option. It takes up almost 6 GB per hour long show and buffers constantly. Set Netflix to standard to lower the internet usage and reduce buffering). Every month there was an issue with the internet going out or being incredibly slow. And when I say slow, I mean SLOOOOOOW. I have pictures I sent to their IT staff that showed download speeds of296 kbps and upload speeds of 13 kbps. That's worse than dial-up folks. Weather didn't seem to affect the internet, however. Good weather, bad weather, it made no difference. Either the connection was decent or it wasn't. At one point, Unwired put up a new tower that was supposedly in a better location to my home. So they moved me to it. I had issues several times that required me to come home from work so that a technician could look into things. When he would leave, he would say I'm getting 8 Mbps download speeds, but I would check on my PS4 while he was there and would get maybe 2. Eventually, the signal got a little better. I did try to get a phone set up with Unwired also. It was awful. It didn't work. I would call from the house line and nothing would happen. I would call from work to my home line and it wouldn't ring. I had it for 8 months, paid for it every month, and made no more than 30 phone calls total with the service. I TRIED to use it more as my cell service was iffy in the area, but I either couldn't make a call or I couldn't receive one. I had to come home for a technician to try to fix the problem 3 times and he didn't have any luck on two of them. I was still charged. I finally got rid of the service because in an emergency, my kids couldn't rely on the phone to work. I did not get a credit at any point for the phone service even though they were aware monthly that it did not work. About the time that happened, I was called by Unwired and asked if a technician could come out again. Something about how my signal was the first one coming from the tower and somehow went to other people, so they wanted to reposition things. My internet at the time was averaging around 3 Mbps, but I agreed and came home so they could do what they needed to do. Then my internet went to hell. This was the last week of August and by the first day of September I had put in a help request that my internet was out. Unfortunately, due to the Labor Day holiday and other customers needing service, a technician couldn't come out until the middle of the following week. No internet right before school? Well, I'll deal with it. Technician came out, said my dish needed to be moved and wasn't catching the signal correctly. It had been working before they came out and fiddled with it just fine and now it needs to be moved? Okay, so let's move it. But they couldn't THAT day. I needed to schedule to come home from work the following week to get it done. Eventually, they did get it up and running and I was averaging 2 Mpbs. But I had lost 1/2 a month of service. I asked 4 different times for a credit, especially since I was kind enough to have my dish and signal messed with to benefit other people. I was ignored. I only used 26 GB that month when I typically used about 50 GB because I didn't have service. A credit for October would have been nice. I finished up with Unwired last month. The internet speeds FINALLY got up once I said I was going to discontinue service. My PS4 was getting closer to 7 Mbps which it never had previously. But we were too late at this juncture. I need reliable service. And if the service isn't there, just credit me something. Overall, if I needed satellite internet I would possibly consider Unwired again. Not their phone service as that is completely unreliable.When I think about Unwired West, I think of helpful people to reach out to, but very inconsistent and slow service.
