This is a small bar in the suburbs, so already a rarity. It's relaxed and casual. It's also not tragically hipster, which is a real rarity for a small bar. The drink selection is good (but not huge) with some nice craft beers and ciders. The food looks amazing though. Superb looking burgers. Amazing looking steaks. We very nearly cancelled our booking next door and ate here instead. We didn't though. We had a very nice meal next door and will have to eat (rather than just look at) the food next time. It's kid friendly so the next time we feel like taking the family out for the night we may well go here.

Friendly atmosphere, live music, good beer and food made for a fun afternoon. Good selection of tasty beers brewed onsite! You can get a paddle of beer (four large tasters) for $15. These were not the small tasters I've had in the states. Live music the entire time we were there. Seemed there were a bunch of locals sitting around the table playing different instruments. I don't think they ever took a break. Food was great and reasonably priced. I had a T-bone with a tasty pepper gravy, along with salad and chips. It was very tasty. We were thing about getting dessert but the kitchen was closed by the time we were done. (They close for a little while between lunch and dinner) It was busy the entire time we were there. Fun atmosphere and good drinks and food makes the Commercial Hotel a great place to stop.

The country club is part of the Shoal Bay Resort and although its nothing great to look at from the outside, walk through those wrought iron gates and your mind will soon change.. Its all about the beer garden and the upstairs function area (I think it's a function area - there was a wedding at the time so we weren't able to check it out). I'd imagine the view up there would be magic !! A visit to Shoal Bay wouldn't be complete without at least one drink in this beer garden. I only wish this place was a little more "open" to the ocean but despite feeling the need to protect its customers from the breeze and the sand, it's a great spot to sit back, talk about owning a place like this along some part of the NSW coast (as you do) and enjoy a few with your besties.
