This is one of my top 3 burger places in Hawaii. Please follow their IG and you will know where they will be every week. I usually go to the Kaheka location since it's close to where I live. This food truck is a MUST-GO food truck. Amazing burger, friendly staffs with reasonable prices. I ordered "The Double Dragon" at a Friday night market in downtown. Since all the burgers were freshly made, the waiting time was less than 10 mins. I also added $2 to substitute the chips to french fries. My burger was really really delicious. Double 1/4 lb patties with American cheese, caramelized onion with pickle mustard sauce. The burger was incredibly juicy and the sauce was a bomb. In addition, the fries were so crunchy and well seasoned. I also tried their Typical Burger which was also fantastic. Must try. I would highly recommend them to everyone. Always love supporting local businesses.

You hungry... This is the place to knock it off your to do list and thankfully I happen upon them when I was browsing around at Harbor Vintage on South Beretania St and this carnivore spot has creatively utilized their 1/4lb patty in many different ways and as I glanced at the menu they had me at pickled jalapeños. Patty Melt definitely has a lot going from the soy balsamic mushrooms, red onions, muenster cheese and their yummy homemade ranch on both sides of the sourdough bread grilled to perfection really got me excited and it comes with chips but decided to upgrade with a green salad for +$2. I also got the loaded tater tots which is topped with pickled jalapeños, bacon bits, chopped up crispy cheese is like dried cheese and wasn't my favorite but the white lightning drizzle is their homemade ranch I couldn't get enough of was amazing and wished that I got extra sauce. Portions are very generous and can easily feed two is totally worth the wait as everything is obviously made to order so be prepared to have a short wait but loved the vibe and the staff who makes it all work and satisfied my hungry belly. Thank you!

Got the Man Child burger and the jalapenos/bacon paired very well - heard lots of compliments from the other passerby who got the other flavors as well. Hoping to revisit again - staff was super nice and chill - Miguel Morales Photography

PARTY MELT n' THE DOUBLE DRAGON

@fortunefoodfinds: "It's FRY-day, let's PARTY! Finally got the chance to check out HUNGRY JON'S PLACE last Friday at the Koolau Night Market located in the parking lot of Windward Mall near Leonards n' Target. PARTY MELT: 1/4 LB PATTY, WHITE LIGHTNING SAUCE, MUENSTER CHEESE, CRISPY CHEESE SKIRT, SOY BALSAMIC MUSHROOMS, SLIVERED FRESH RED ONION, PICKLED JALAPENOS, BACON, ALL ON GRILLED SOURDOUGH ROUNDS. THE DOUBLE DRAGON: 2 QTR LB PATTIES, 2 SLICES OF AMERICAN CHEESE, DEEP CARAMELIZED ONIONS, MAN-CHILD SAUCE, ON GRILLED BRIOCHE. Just thinking about these makes me hungry. Now I know where to go when in da mood, for comfort food!" Staff: fully staffed Exterior: food truck Wait time: 15-20 mins Parking: mall lot Overall comments: Both were devoured in minutes. The crispy cheese n' pickled jalapeños were just some of the highlights of the Party Melt, but everything just came together n' was literally a party. The Double Dragon brought the cheeseburger vibes you feen for n' even my 4 year old loved it. Fries were crispy n' well seasoned. Wanna try out more menu items on my next visit!

Man Child

Saw their food truck during an event and decided to check it out, as their prices were pretty reasonable. I got their ManChild burger which had bacon and toasty cheese, and my friend got the Party Melt. Both of them came with kettle chips. I enjoyed the burger, was a pretty typical take out burger but with kettle chips instead of fries. Although, my friend and I agreed it was a bit too greasy for our taste, but still pretty good. It's worth a try if craving a burger.

As the ultimate burger lovers, I knew we had to try! Hungry Jon's has been on my radar for some time now since I've seen the truck in my neighborhood. Located at the Pearlridge night market this time. They had a TV screen on their truck that played all the different photos of all their signature foods on the menu. This had me drooling while I passed by weighing out my options, good marketing lol. Very nice and friendly workers! Order estimated around 15 minutes. Cash or card accepted. We decided on the Warhammer ($16) and Manchild ($12) which came with a side of crispy kettle chips. The Warhammer was delicious! Hot, very juicy, bacon makes everything better. I chose the Man child since I couldn't resist once I saw the "cheese skirt" which was interesting. Sadly, my burger wasn't warm and the cheese skirt ended up being more mushy than crispy. Maybe mine sat a little longer while the other burger was being made. They were also out of caramelized onions, but I bet that would have made it taste better. Nevertheless, I still appreciated the burger truck concept and I would come back to try other items! Hungry for more!

We ran into Hungry Jon's food truck at the Harley Davidson car show last night where we brought our lowrider, and thank God they were there because I didn't even know this truck existed until now. We grabbed two burgers: my boyfriend went full caveman with the War-Hammer ($19) and I got Ethan's Old-School Teri Burger ($13). Both come with chips, but you can upgrade to fries for $3. I figured one fry upgrade would be enough for us to share but honesty, the fries were good and seasoned well, but the portion was really small, too small for the $3 upgrade anyway. Its the kind of portion that makes you feel like you're on a diet you never signed up for. If you think youll be able to sneak a few fries off your partners plate and it not be noticed, think again. Lol Just upgrade your own. His War-Hammer was solid, but a little pricey to not come with fries. My Teri burger though? Absolute religious experience. I've been dealing with health stuff that makes it hard to eat much, but I inhaled half of this thing like I'd just been released from prison for selling bootleg Limewire DVDs. The patty was pounded thin, like the balding tires on my Audi after hitting all these Dillingham pot-holes but it was enough for me. The Teri sauce was straight-up crack in condiment form. I said it reminded me of Subway's sweet onion teriyaki sauce, but my boyfriend said it reminded him of the old Kenny's Burger House in Kalihi (back in the 90s). He was having childhood flashbacks like he had been in the Vietnam War. This burger has me walking around scratching my neck like them batu-fiend night walkers in chinatown. Them Vegans are missing out for sure because this burger alone was enough to turn PETA into a tailgate party Definitely going back!

Party melt

Omg !!!!! Yum!! I got the party melt. EVERY SINGLE BITE WAS SO FLAVORFUL. The ingredients and combinations of this burger/sandwhich whatever it is was amazing. I just finished my burger and I am already anticipating for the next time I'll eat it again.

Lily D put this lunch truck on my radar months ago but I wasn't able to come visit till recently. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of going to lunch trucks but the sandwiches here looked legit and she said they were good so I had to give them a try. Hungry Jon's Place is a black lunch truck that is on Kaheka St next to American Savings Bank in the Pan Am Building. I texted in my order so that I could eat the sandwiches as quickly as possible around 10:30am. They replied back with the menu for the day with specials and told me that my pick up time was 11:45am. I was so excited to try them out that I arrived a little early so I paid first and waited for my order to be completed. Both cash and credit cards are accepted. They didn't take long to get my order out. It smelled amazing on the drive home. My order was 1 Party Melt and 1 Chunky Cheese. Both orders came with chips. The menu board stated they were sold out which is great for them. They seem to have a loyal following as most people there have tried several menu items from what I overheard. Seems like preordering is the way to go as a few customers just walked by and was sad they were sold out. Originally I wanted 1 Patty Melt, 1 Korean Braised Beef Sandwich and 1 Pothead. With their menu changing weekly, I was glad because their Chunky Cheese sandwich was amazing! The jalapeños added a nice kick to the sandwich and the bread on both sandwiches were still crispy when I ate them. Between both sandwiches, I enjoyed the Chunky Cheese more. You get amazing sandwiches for a great price. Customer service was friendly and you gotta love supporting a local husband and wife business. Solid spot and they lived up to Lily D's hype.

I was craving a burger and saw the banner to the Kaiser Farmer's Market and decided to take a chance. I'm so happy I stumbled across Hungry Jon's Place! The prices were extremely reasonable and the burger was fantastic. I ordered the Manchild burger and really enjoyed every bite. I think that they should add a blue cheese burger with the cheese skirt, I think it'd be super epic! The service was also fantastic. Very nice duo!

This food truck near donki (Kaheka) has been open for several weeks now. They're either parked by the detached parking structure or near the church. I just drove around the block to try to find their gray truck the day i went. I literally heard about this truck because of IG. I actually have 2 IG accounts (one to post food and one for my dog). One day i noticed in stories that another newer dog account mentioned that they owned a food truck, so of course i was willing to try it! You can always count me in when it involves food! They also have really strange hours and only open on Sundays and Mondays from 10-2pm. I found out that they also have other full time jobs, so this explains the strange business hours. Luckily for me - i was off today so i was able to go down and try! I've attempted to come down prior but something i went to that day took way too long and didn't make it back into town in time. They are also the cutest husband and wife duo. That is amazing to want to work with your significant other, because i think i would go crazy! LOL. They had 3 Sandwiches & 1 Soup available this Sunday - I opted for the Kahula Yaki which was typically Kalua pork w/Teri Sauce. The sandwich also came with a side of chips or salad. I opted for the chips. The sandwich was also so big its sharable between two people as well. All sandwiches are $12 and really good. I cant wait to try other ones they have in the making as long as it's nothing healthy and only veggies, LOL. You're also allowed to bring your 2 or 4 legged children since it is a food truck and they're parked along the street. If you have a 4 legged child - they do sell dog treats for ($6). These treats are made by the wife. They were so kind let Simba sample some of their treats. The flavor was chicken and pumpkin and it breaks apart similar to a Ryoken bar for smaller portions if you're familiar with that brand. Cash, Credit, or Venmo is accepted.

Saw their food truck at Koolau's night market earlier. There was a slight wait, but the burger and fries were delicious! The prices were also quite reasonable. :)

This place was just two blocks away, so we braved the November misty rain and consistent wind through the buildings to make it over here. To be fair, this seemed more like a Vietnamese coffee joint and a Banh Mi place... so maybe coming here for pho wasn't our best idea. They had two kinds available that night-- beef and chicken. Since chicken pho is not something I'm willing to try, we both ordered up the dac biet. The broth was bland with a thin and unpleasant veil of grease along the top that congealed quickly on the rim of the bowl. It wasn't hot enough, or maybe the pre-cooked and chilled noodle block they poured it over cooled it off. Meat was chewy and low quality. The sprouts and basil were soggy and wilted. Honestly, it was a get up and leave kind of thing. The whole place was just dingy and didn't feel great. I've eaten at some very modest places in my native San Gabriel Valley in Southern California, so it's not a snobbery thing. It's a "someone get a Swiffer wet jet and some paper towels and give this whole place a once-over. Speaking of once, that's the sum total of times we'll ever eat here. It feels like one of those places that has become trendy because someone on Instagram popularized it. The sandwich was good but not great. The lettuce was turning brown. In my opinion, a really great sandwich excels because you can taste the quality, freshness, and flavor of its individual ingredients. In my sandwich, the turkey was flavorless and it felt like they used a strong, heavy sauce to give it flavor, which to me does not make for a foodie destination, $15+ sandwich. Māla Market in Hawaii Kai remains, by far, my favorite sandwich. And given how long Sprout took, I could've driven to Hawaii Kai, gotten my sandwich, and driven back in less time.

I had visited their sister location the night before in Waikīkī and had such a great experience that I told my wife, "If this place is anything like last night, we're in for something good." She agreed--and we decided to give it a shot. Right when we walked in, we were greeted by Colby, a tall, friendly guy with a great attitude. I mentioned my experience from the night before, and he immediately said he wanted to live up to that standard. That kind of response set a really positive tone. We ordered two Aroma Specials: Dolce & Banana (me) Nutella Latte (my wife) For food, we went with: P.B. Delight açaí bowl Turkey pesto panini Bacon & egg bagel Total came out to about $62, which we expected given the location near the beach. We grabbed a seat inside by the window (outside seating was full--no surprise on such a beautiful morning). Our drinks came out quickly--but unfortunately, this is where things started a little rough. We both noticed right away that something was off. My wife's Nutella latte didn't have that rich hazelnut flavor you'd expect, and my Dolce & Banana was missing the banana entirely. Honestly, they tasted almost identical. When I politely mentioned it to a staff member who brought out our food, the response felt dismissive and didn't really address the concern--which was disappointing and definitely not the experience we were hoping for. At that point, we decided to just enjoy the food and move forward--and I'm glad we did, because the food was fantastic. The turkey pesto panini was loaded with flavor, perfectly crispy on the outside, and packed with melty cheese. The bacon & egg bagel was hearty, well-balanced, and super satisfying. The P.B. Delight açaí bowl was the surprise standout--perfectly blended, fresh, and the peanut butter added an awesome richness that made it feel like a treat. Everything on the food side absolutely delivered. A few minutes later, Colby came by to check on us--and this is where the entire experience turned around. I let him know honestly: "The food is amazing, but the coffee missed the mark." Without hesitation, without attitude, and without making excuses, he said, "Hang on, let me fix that." I even told him not to worry about it--we were enjoying ourselves regardless--but he insisted. "Rick, I got you," he said. Within minutes, he came back with two freshly made drinks and a sincere apology. We took a sip and immediately--night and day difference. The Nutella latte had that rich, distinct hazelnut flavor. The Dolce & Banana finally had that smooth, balanced banana note Exactly what we were hoping for the first time. Colby is the MVP Colby completely turned this experience around. His attitude never changed--he was smiling, positive, kind, and genuinely cared about making things right. No defensiveness, no excuses--just great customer service and follow-through. That kind of service is rare, and it matters. It's evident that not all the workers have that same dedication to customer service but Colby does! What could have been a disappointing visit ended up being a great one because of him. Hawaiian Aroma Caffè--take care of this young man! He represents your business incredibly well. He needs to be leading your team on what customer service looks like and they need to follow his lead. From naming customers by their first name, to holding that perfect smile the entire time, to checking in with guests after receiving their meals and really caring about their experience. Colby naturally has it and should be showing every one how to do it as well! The Future Looks Bright for Colby and if you don't take of him, someone smart will! Final Thoughts Great food, great location, and a really cool atmosphere--but what stood out most was the service recovery. Mistakes happen anywhere. What matters is how they're handled--and Colby handled it perfectly. Because of him, we'll absolutely be back. Thank you again, Colby--keep doing your thing. You made our day. - Dr. Rick
