Love this place! It's a solid little local burger stop that we've been stopping by for years when in the area. The workers are nice and there is limited seating but you can't beat the view when do find a spot. This last visit was great after spending the morning playing in the snow , the lady that took our order was super helpful and sweet. We got a kids cheese burger meal with the works $9.99 ( comes with fries and a capri sun) and a lil hot dog meal $7.25( comes with fries and capri sun), plus we had to get some yummy onion rings $6.75. While taking a day trip to Shaver Lake, we got hungry, and are soooo thrilled we stumbled across this awesome place...Hungry Hut! Very chill vibes, you walk on up to order your food, made to order. Enjoyed with our order were burgers, a veggie burger, hot dog, onion rings, & fries. I love that you can order a half onion rings, half fries order. Okay so these yummy fries were lightly seasoned, completely crisp on the outside and warm, with great texture on the inside. We were searching for every last piece, and wanted more! It's also fantastic that the kid's meals come with fries and a juice included. When ordering, it was great, we told them it was our first time and we joked around around a bit- really spot on customer service. We were given a buzzer when food was ready, and we ate outside at a counter on stools, looking out at beautiful scenery. Good value for the prices & items, and we will definitely return. This is a great place in the mountains to come get a burger and fries and just take in the beautiful views and breathe fresh mountain air ( as well as burgers being cooked to perfection.) They are popular so there might be a wait, but remember you are relaxing and it's ok to hang out. They do have a beer garden if you wish to partake in that. Since I no longer drink let me tell you the highlights. The Boysenberry shake is absolutely amazing! And pair it with onion rings or fries or both and you will not remember where you are for a while. Of course add in any burger ( because they are all good.) or a hot dog or even a fried chicken sandwich, and you will have a great story to tell when you get home. Service is great, nice and friendly staff, ordering is done in person by walk up or order over the phone and take it back to your campsite or cabin. You won't regret your visit. Solid place for lunch after a hike! We were a group of four. We ordered inside and were each given a buzzer to retrieve our food when it was ready. We found some seats outside. Service was fairly quick, despite overhearing that they were training new staff. I ordered the Hut Burger and added lettuce and tomatoes and it was good. The fries were seasoned and crispy. I overheard the people in line behind me raving about the shakes. This was a repeat visit for them and they only ordered shakes. I'll have to try it next time I'm in the area. The fries and onion rings were solid companions on this culinary journey. While the food was great, I did find it a bit on the salty side for my taste. The main event, however, was the service, which was a truly wild experience. It seemed a bit understaffed, with one person heroically attempting to manage orders, drinks, and milkshakes all at once. The coordination between the cashier and the bar felt like watching a play where the actors hadn't rehearsed together. A little more harmony in the front of the house would go a long way in improving the overall comfort and flow. Would I recommend it? Yes, but with a condition. If you're on a quest for a top-tier burger and your patience is legendary, this is your place. We went early, shortly after opening, which was great because our party were the only customers there. The atmosphere was nice and inviting. The front lady was polite and welcoming. The food that did come out correctly was good. Just a little frustrating when multiple things we ordered had to be sent back. Asked for a breakfast sandwich and received a breakfast burrito, when we went back to the window they told us that's not what the screen had but they ended up making the burrito. On one breakfast sandwich we asked specifically for no bacon, when we received the sandwich it was almost like extra bacon was added. We've been coming to the hungry hut since I was a little girl. A lively little spot with weekend tri tip sandwiches, amazing char broiled burgers and milkshakes to die for. Unfortunately now, only the old bones remain, all of its small town soul is gone. We waited well over 30 minutes for our food... there's a sign on the door that says "this is not fast food". I do understand excellence cannot be rushed- as a professional chef I can attest to this- however, our meal was far from excellent. I'll cut to the chase, our burgers were raw and simultaneously overcooked (alluding to frozen preformed patties cooked over too high of heat and internal temp not being prioritized). My husband's burger bun was rock hard. He went to take a bite of it and well, he couldn't. And the hotdog... it was a really really sad excuse for a $9 hotdog. I hope this place can rediscover its soul. Ownership changed recently and it shows- tacky printed signs over explaining themselves, a new breakfast menu, some weird beverage advertising, heated green houses that feel misplaced (if you're at Shaver Lake in the winter, odds are you are dressed to be outside). So we stopped for burgers after our magical mushroom hunt in the forest. Hungry hutch did not disappoint after all these years! Burgers were thick and juicy at 1/3 pound. Charbroiled, we requested grilled onions and those were toasty too. My friends were impressed. Best burger! One of us had a limited appetite and chose the children's menu burger. Good sized and served plain so be sure to request lettuce, tomato what have you. The combo fries were a mixture of onion rings and fries. Great choice when you want to taste both. The fries are thin cut and tossed with a tasty seasoning salt. Yum! The onion rings were well done with a cornmeal type batter, not greasy and nice and crisp. We had soft cone ice cream for dessert. Great burgers here and the shakes are delish! The staff is so nice and many times the owner is there too. Even put up green house enclosed structures for comfy seating on cold days. Not being familiar with the area we asked a few people where would be a good place to eat and they mentioned the hungry hut, said it even has a beer garden. First impression, I hope the food is better than the service. I have worked in customer service for over 40 years, on the phone, in food service and in retail. I didn't get the girls name but she had oversized fake eyelashes, dark hair and didn't smile ( at all ) or even attempt a smile. She didn't make any eye contact, just barely looked at you, talked quiet and mumbled which made it hard to hear her over the music in the beer garden. Her attitude was I'd rather be anyplace else but here. We ordered a couple of burgers and they would have been good except the buns tasted like they had been left out, they were crunchy / crispy on the outside and there was no lettuce or tomatoes on them. The onion rings are really good. The fries and onion rings by the way don't come with the burger you purchase separate. I ordered the grandma's berries milkshake, it was amazing the best shake I have ever had but for $10 I expected it to be a little larger. It was about the size of a small McDonalds soda ( just giving as an example of size in no way am I comparing them to McD.) For 2 burgers, one onion ring, one fries a shake and a beer it came out to over $65 not including the beer my friend got. We didn't get sodas. Like I said Shakes are amazing but overpriced. I probably would have given a higher rating if not for the customer service but that combine with the prices and mediocre burgers I'm only giving 2 stars. Edit in response to business manager. This is a popular place right off the main road in Shaver. It gets pretty busy but it didn't take too long to receive our meal after we were able to order. The food is decent and obviously things cost what they do up on the mountain so no surprise with the costs involved. Plenty of outdoor seating very limited space indoor.
