Really nice chippie with proper potato chips, none of that frozen stuff. They do good lunch deals in the form of box meals.

Good chipper. Closes too early though. 19.10 on a Sunday night and shutters are down? Not good enough, I'll shop elsewhere in future.

I had not been there for a couple of years until a couple of months ago I was driving by on a friday night around tea time. Its was busy and I thought that I would just leave it, but I decided to go on in anyway for nostalgias sake. I got my a battered sausage supper and some chicken goujons for my wife. The goujons were the kind that melt and and crumble in your mouth all at once. I couldn't believe what I had been missing all those years since school!!! Its is well known as being one of east Belfast's best chip shops. On the menu is all of the usual suspects burgers, fish, chicken and chips. Its a shame I don't live closer or I would frequent much more often.

I also had a vegetarian pastie which was amazing and very flavourful. Just the right amount of salt and vinegar on the food too and the potions are very generous. I found the prices similar to other chip shops around the area, with a pastie and large gravy chip costing around £5. As with a lot of chip shops there's not a huge vegetarian selection, however the pastie was so good I've already decided to try a pastie and salad bap on my return. Of course, there's always onion rings and I think the chips would be delicious with any sauce or topping. A perfect lazy-day dinner or hangover cure. I'm already looking forward to my next trip to The Sea Fry.

Great place that should deserve a lot more attention…read more A little difficult to find, and definitely need a second pair of eyes... The outside of this place was an industrial-looking building that nobody would have thought it's a fish n chips place. Parking was TIGHT! So be warned!! The moment you walked in, it gave out an old harbor diner feel (not sure if that's how you describe it)... Tile flooring, straight 90-degree wooden booths. They have both takeout and dine-in service, so we decided to enjoy the moment and sat in for our fishy. Most of the items have both regular size or what they called a "supper" size, which just means more on the chips... or fries for us North Americans. We ordered the classic Fresh Battered Fish and a Pastie (huh?) As you wait for the goodies, you could hear the sound of fish or chips being fried, that's really music to my ears! The fish was LONG! Fried to perfection with minimal batter, just the way it's supposed to be to showcase the main character- FISH! Despite ordering the regular fish n chips, the portion of the fries was perfect for us... those fries were THICK CUT and the size of my thumb!! And then, our mystery Pastie arrived. My first thought was "a flatten ball of..." FISH PASTE and potato (pure guesses on the potato part, not 100% sure). It was a very interesting fried loveliness for us... it tasted a little like those Asian fish sausages with onions. Overall, CHEAP and WORTH THE DRIVE! Both of these combined were only GBP 8 something (about CAD$13)! If you ordered the exact same thing back home, the fish n chips along already cost more than $13.

Consistently good sized portions, thankfully never too greasy like some other establishments. A…read moreneighborhood restaurant with locals and visitors, they treat everyone as family. Prices have been kept fair as of the last time I visited in 2025.

They offer all the usuals such as fish, sausages, burgers, chips and chicken burgers and I went for the fish supper. It came out huge and looked just as good as it tasted! I sat in and there was a pretty steady stream of people coming in for take out which can only mean good things! There is also outdoor seating for you to enjoy a rare sunny day in Belfast and partake in a bit of people watching! Really love this place and it's up there with Gucci on the Lisburn road for me. Always keen to try a new chippie (they've apparently been open 6 weeks or so) and the smartly appointed sign and interior drew me in. The menu was straightforward and featured all the usual chip shop fare. After ordering I sat at one of the tables I noticed they also had a small ice cream counter and a covered terrace area out front. The food was fresh cooked and the chips were delicious as was the fish. There were a load of lunch time specials on display and the whole shop had a nice fresh atmosphere to it, particularly with the white walls and recessed lighting. As I was the only customer the woman behind the counter chatted away and she recommended for larger orders that I ring ahead as it can get busy in the evening. Definitely a new worthy addition to the world of great Belfast chip-shops, Pros: Clean, friendly, excellent fish and chips. Cons: Again not the most central of areas. No parking.

Someone recommended Smyths a while back and I decided to give them a try, first impressions, from a distance were good, seats outside and seats inside, however the outside seating was occupied by a group of those horrible feral brats that you just want to slap who weren't actually eating anything and inside was equally packed by people sitting, also not eating. Inside we joined the queue and placed our order, the Jeremy Kyle guest ahead of us had her brat with her, who was joined by one of the brats from outside, who proceeded to start beating the crap out of each other. "Jay-zee, will you fack aff?" opined the victims mother, "Will you tell him to piss off" replied Jaz-zee as he landed a good right hook to his victim's jaw. Presumably the sight of her son getting a hiding is normal to super-mum as she turned away and started sucking on a carton of sukie. The fight was joined by another kid from the seated area and it continued outside to the noise of the sukie carton getting sucked flat. I reached for my phone to video the melee and was surprised to find this had happened inside 2 minutes of getting there. After what seemed a very long wait, we got our food and like Jay-zee, "facked aff" home. Oh dear, the food was not good, admittedly they poor girls working were flat out, but seriously, I wasn't impressed, wafer thin burnt batter that just fell off, greasy chips and what seemed like a mere teaspoon of curry sauce. I'd truly like to go back some day when they were less rushed and without the trainee spide population of East Belfast being in attendance, just to see if it gets better, but as it is, I wouldn't be in a rush to recommend it myself.

It has recently been crowned best Kebab shop in the UK which is something that can't go unnoticed. I hadn't been here in a little while until a recent 'secretsupperclub' event was nearby and I thought to myself I must get one soon..... so I did. Like always I would go for the original kebab on bread with salad and the special Sphinx Sauce, if you have not tried this yet you are missing out! The kebab meat is real actual steak / beef pieces which tastes great especially compared to the rubbery meat other Belfast Kebabs have to offer. I speak really highly of this place because it is awesome food, but I do feel the portion sizes have also skimped over the years I also got a chip with my order and the chips literally covered the plastic container they came in and that was it. Even the size of the kebab looks as though it has shrunk down in size. Which is why sadly this is no 5 star rating for the Sphinx. That being said, if you are in the mood for a kebab you have to hit the best in town.... Which is the Sphinx, you will not be disappointed!

I didn't go here for many years after hearing the hype and whilst realising that their praise was a bit OTT, this is a good chip shop, though many people prefer it late night as the kebab place of choice. That is fine by me as they do a kebab that is a damn sight better than what is produced by most Belfast chip shops and eateries. The shop refit has mad the place feel more clean and spacious, and the goods on offer are all well cooked and are reasonably priced. As mentioned earlier the Sphinx sauce they put on chips is amazing, although I am frightened to think what actually goes into it.... oh well, ignorance is bliss!
