I enjoyed the service and the restaurant seating setup at this location. I liked all of the options and I thought the pricing was fair. However, I got the Ruben and it was just OK. It was a very thick bread cut which was a bit overwhelming but it was ok! I regret not getting a cold sandwich - I think the sub bun sandwich options look better in hindsight. I also regret not getting a baked potato mix? I am not even sure what that is but it sounded delicious. I would probably go again but it is not my favorite sandwich place I have been. read more

I've stopped here a few times coming in and out of Clinton for work. It's a great, quick spot for lunch! Their menu has something for everyone and feels pretty affordable. The portions are HUGE so be prepared to take some to go. Easy place if you need a good, filling lunch. read more

Been to quite a few Hungry Hobo locations, so stopped here for lunch while passing through town. Easy ordering and quick sandwich delivery. I got the hot Ham and Cheese and the Mrs. got the Tuna Salad. I like that the meet is fresher and more flavorful than other sub places. Generous portions on the sandwich. Got the potato salad-very solid. Great views of the river. read more

Food good quality and good value Service counter person was distracted and on his phone . Doing his job but not engaging with me apps a customer. Ambiance- deli style seating. Great view of the Mississippi River. read more

Delicious sandwiches and cheese curds and fast, friendly service! My son's new favorite restaurant!

The potatoes are great. Sandwiches are good too. Made fresh. Bread is tasty and fresh. To the entitled people just writing ignorant things about the staff or complaining thinking that you're going to a 5 star steakhouse, remember where you stopped to eat. It's fast food. Made fresh while you wait. If you expected freshly grated melted cheese sauce, you're dumb. If you expected a Maitre d, you're dumb. If you expected anything more than a sandwich by definition, you're dumb. And I'm glad you won't be back by your choice, because I like to be around nice people and you're just dumb. read more

I wanted to stop and get a bite to eat on the way back to Des Moines a little while ago. The location was great, take a look at the view in the picture! It's located right next to the Mississippi. As for the sandwich, the bread is very soft and delicious. The rest of the sandwich is your run-of-the-mill meat and cheese but when you partner that bread with the view, you can't fail! read more

The name the place attracted us and it's right off of I-80 and sits along the Mississippi River. The chicken noodle soup is mediocre. The potato salad could use some eggs, onion and cheese. The waffle fries could have been cooked a bit longer and added some seasoning. Hubs had a sirloin sandwich with onions and said it was very good. He got his grilled sandwich and I had to wait for my cold sandwich and cheddar fries, which were waffle fries with dipping "cheese". It was more like nacho cheese and I was not a fan. It was a so-so experience read more

Service was quick and the menu had tasty options from deli sandwiches to loaded baked potatoes. Side options are chips, cakes, huge cookies, soups, cheese curds and waffle fries. I enjoyed my Philly Cheesesteak sandwich while the rest of my family had a Turkey/Ham sandwich and a Ham/Salami Sandwich. The sandwiches were fresh and the bread was soft and pillowy. We will be back to try the other sandwiches and sides. read more

Hungry Hobo - the front of a restaurant with a lake in the background - Food Near Me - Le Claire, Iowa

Thei is a very basic sandwich place. Sandwich was made in 15 seconds and the "hot" sandwiches are heated up in the microwave. The draw is obviously the location. Probably wouldn't eat here again. read more

I got snowed it at a nearby hotel and decided to step over to this sandwich shop next door. The walk was less than 3 minutes. Once inside, the shop looked and smelled clean. Quintin and the girls on the line who took my order had a polite demeanor and my simple veggie but huge sandwich was delicious and fast to make. The bread fresh. Delicious potato salad and refillable fountain drink. The customers after me got a sample of soup they were trying out before having to purchase it as a whole. I'd say that's great customer service. Thank you Hungry Hobo. (P.s check out their cute wallpaper) read more

I stopped here on my way out of town for a funeral. I've eaten here quite a few times but this was one of my worst experiences. I ordered a King 11 on whole wheat, everything, no peppers, no tomatoes. I got in my car, opened the sandwich to find lettuce spilling everywhere, loaded with tomatoes and peppers, my car became a mess because of it. There was plenty of parking and the view of the Mississippi was awesome! But like I said, a very poor experience. read more

Nice little sandwhich shop. Wasnt the greatest but did its job. Kind of a mix between Subway and Quiznos. Great place for a quick and cheap bite to eat. read more

I went here because it was a chain I never heard of since I have only lived on the East and West coast and traveling through the Mid-west I thought I would check it out. Think of this like a sandwich shop that uses better tasting ingredients than Subway but isn't as good as a Fire House Subs or other popular trendy submarine sandwich shops. This is more like a Subway/Arby's upgrade that is mediocre at best. Wife and I stopped by and the parking lot was huge and I didn't realize it until we left, but really empty. As we entered, the place was a ghost town. I did not really care since I was starving the wife and I ordered. I got the king size Roast Beef and cheddar with waffle fries, double meat on the sandwich. The wife ordered a loaded back potato. The damage for the meal wasn't bad but I figured for the cost the sandwich would be pretty good... The sandwich was huge but underwhelming on taste. There was a lot of roast beef and cheese but with no sauce or anything, I was wishing I went to Arby's instead for a Beef and Cheddar. The fries were good but I wouldn't really call them better than Arby's curly fries. Since I paid twice as much as I would as Arby's, I was left a little underwhelmed. The wife's potato was good but I have seen better potatoes from Wendy's... Hungry Hobo, nice try at making a better sandwich, but based on the ghost town I visited, you have the location set up down, tons of tables and wide open spaces and large parking lot. Now you need to make a sandwich people actually want to eat... read more

Two stars for the food and an extra bump to three stars because of the location and cool view of the great river. Bottom line: this is the best, sort of healthy, alternative to the McDonald's on this exit. It's an average sandwich shop with no stand outs that would make me a regular if I lived nearby. Traditional cold cuts and cheeses are served on soft hoagie style bread and topped with that shredded lettuce that comes in a bag, not great tomatoes, and your choice of mayo or oil and vinegar. They offer no pickles, no sprouts, no cucumbers, no peppers, no giardinara, no avocado, and no spinach. Pretty boring, to say the least. Soups are not homemade and the chips are not local or unique. Desserts looked good, but I don't have a sweet tooth. I will be back when I'm driving through and I just need eat something that won't kill me. read more

Big fan of Hungry Hobo from Galesburg. Was pleasantly surprised to find this location on our route for a road trip West. Good news is that the food is pretty darn good and a good value. Nothing gourmet, but better than larger chains'. Location is in an odd strip of offices, but has a sweet view of the river. Service was okay, but got great. May be a small thing, but it's lame that they only have a diaper changing table in the women's restroom. I was traveling with my kids and needed to change a diaper. Apparently only women do that? ;-) read more

First visit to this chain, underwhelming at best. Large, rather confusing menu for the uninitiated. Atmosphere was cookie cutter chain, nothing special. It's a sub shop, don't expect anything more, rate this average at best. read more

I came hungry and left not a hobo. But still delicious and affordable. We ate on the rocks along the Mississippi River. It was magical. Would eat their food again. read more

This place is an unorganized joke. They need to hire an adult to work with the kids. Everyone standing around or running into one another. Kids working behind the counter were trying to break records for stuffing the most food in one bag for to go orders. People walking out trying to balance their food like a circus act. read more

Service was so friendly and the food was really good nice little snack if you get the regular

I can say with complete confidence that this was the worst Hungry Hobo I have ever visited. When we walked up to place our order, we were half heartedly greeted by an Ewok wearing glasses. We had to dig down in the pile of trays to find one that was clean and when we informed Ewok boy of this he just said sorry but made no effort to remove the dirty trays. The staff was extremely disorganized and showed little interest in the customers or their jobs. When we finally received our food and went to sit down, we found that the tables were just as filthy as the trays. I would recommend that you find somewhere else to eat. read more

1st time in the Hungry Hobo and the lady behind the counter was most helpful. she took her time to explain the sandwiches and sides. Sorry I did not get your name sweetheart but thanks again I enjoyed my roast beef, soup, and cookie. Next to Holiday Inn Le Claire. She said there are 12 Hungry Hobos spread around the Quad Cities area. yum! read more

I don't understand what all the hype in the Quad Cities is about Hungry Hobo. The sandwich I had (turkey, provolone on white) was good, fine, nothing special. The bread is good, not great, the meat is good, not great. The sandwich is enjoyable, the ambiance is fast casual/counter service, the quality of the ingredients is average. Hungry Hobo is a good choice if you're in a hurry and want a lighter healthier lunch that won't weigh you down like greasy fast food but outside of convenience and price there is nothing that stands out at this place. read more

Wow, I have been to several Hungry Hobos in the QC, but this one really needs help. Men's room was filthy. For a slow night the staff should have considered taking time to wipe down the tables instead of standing around chatting. The staff was Not very helpful, rude, and should try a smile. read more

We travel 1100+ miles for a King 9 and cheddar fries. My husband, originally from New England (also where we live now), said he would move to the QC, just for the Roast Beef Sandwiches. The LeClaire location is newish, I'm not sure when it was opened, because we are just back visiting for the holidays. I went two days in a row for lunch for the two of us, the employees were super nice and efficient, but must have thought I was crazy coming in so much! read more

I love Hungry Hobo sandwiches. Their bread is excellent. What I really love about this particular location is not only the food really good, it is right on the Mississippi River and you can sit at a counter seat and watch the river go by. read more

We had a great experience here. It's easy off and back onto I-80. We ate in the car with a nice view of the river. Service was friendly, and the roast beef and cheddar on a soft french roll was great. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that the waffle fries needed salt. I wish I could give it 4 1/2 stars. We would definitely go back if we were passing through again. read more

I love Hungry Hobo but very disapppinted in today's service. Following a 20 min wait for two reg sandwiches, i was given a meat-laden sub on white as opposed to the veggie on wheat that i ordered. When i called to share their error, i was told to call corporate... Very disappointing. Big K was having a bad day! read more

Well, we decided to give this sandwich joint a try after hearing great things about it. This location was really struggling today. I ordered 2 sandwiches and fries and waited 25 minutes to walk out with my order. When I saw fries going out to those who ordered after I did sitting in the lobby, I asked about my order and was told they were only waiting on fries to which I replied well those in the lobby that went out to people who ordered after me might be the problem. All the kids in the restaurant could say was "so sorry". There was another woman with a large order who had ordered before I even walked in who was still waiting for her food when I actually left. They had lost her ticket completely. Part of the problem is that these restaurants are ran by kids without any true management to keep them accountable. I understand kids working, I was once a kid but it shouldn't be a full staff of kids who get easily overwhelmed and flustered when it gets busy! The food was OK but given the poor service it made the whole experience unimpressive. Would maybe give another location in the QC a try only because I've heard such great things but won't go back to the location here in Le Claire. read more

Meh. Pretty much like Subway. There were hot and cold sandwiches, only 3 kinds of bread. They had several soups and had baked potatoes. We had a large family group--9 people. So it worked fine because there were several booths and also bar seats facing the river which the kids enjoyed. I'm not sure if we missed something about what to eat there that the locals know....I saw other patrons with waffle fries but I didn't even clue into that from the menu--we just grabbed chips. I even asked what their specialty was, and got the halfhearted reply of the Hobo Combination (?) which was basically an Italian sub. Pretty good but not amazing and I didn't want mayo but got it anyway. My daughter ordered nachos and nearly cried when she saw it: a pile of Doritos with a plastic cup of cheese. I took it back and told them it wasn't what we were expecting. They refunded my money and we got her a sandwich instead, which she enjoyed. I really appreciated that. My mother in law got the Rueben but was disappointed because even though it was a hot sandwich, it was not grilled as you might expect, and really only the filling was hot-- the bread was cold. The beef vegetable soup was very tasty. Baked potatoes were nothing special. This place was recommended to us by someone at Antique Archaeology which was the reason we were in LeClaire, so we thought it might be a cool local place, but it wasn't super exciting. I felt it was merely an alternative to national chain fast food. read more
