Had a bad experience at this location. Food for a DoorDash order was made incorrect, and my options to correct were to drive to the store to pick the sandwich that I had already paid for; I didn't feel well, which is why I paid to have the food delivered a mile from my house. When I checked the new sandwich to make sure it didn't have mayo, I was hassled, which didn't help the situation. No manager on site to handle the issue and they number they give you is for after office hours and not store hours. This location doesn't care about doing things right or righting the situation. read more

Caught them in a bad day; appeared to be a few people in training. Young man took our orders and a few minutes later another lady came out and started them over as they couldn't understand what he'd given them. Took a few minutes, and food came out in a reasonable timeframe. My sandwich was a bit dry (#5 Smoked Turkey), but my wife said her tuna (#10) was good. Generally a big fan of HH, so hopefully we just caught them on a bad day. Clean inside and unisex bathrooms. read more

We chose this because it was the nearest eatery near the holiday inn where we stayed. We were interested in the meatless specials which the young gentleman behind the counter helped us with. I got the baked potato with veggies and cheese and hubby got the tuna sandwich. Both were delicious and promptly prepared. Bonus was a nice view of the river and a spotless dining room. Trying the Hungry Hobo for the first time, I had the regular Hobo sandwich. It was alright with a mix of meat (ham, salami), lettuce, cheese and tomato. The bread was too soft, almost doughy. They charge 40 cents for a couple of slices of banana peppers, and I did not even ask for extra! I also ordered fries, they were soggy and not even fully warm.... My husband and I are native Quad Citians who have frequented Hungry Hobo for as long as we can remember. Over the years, quality customer service has been hit or miss depending on the location, yet we don't recall previously having a problem with the food being inconsistent at the Bettendorf establishment. Our experience earlier tonight was a whole other story. We placed a to-go order for two combos: one regular-sized #11 (no tomato, onion added) with a regular-sized vegetable beef soup, and one "D" grilled chicken sandwich with a king-sized chili. The young man who took our order was very friendly, polite, and thorough (which hasn't always been the case at every Hungry Hobo location). He gave our order to the employees at the prep table and, as my husband paid, I noticed out of the corner of my eye that a group of them were huddled together and staring at us while quietly talking to one another. I found that to be a little odd, but I brushed it off as I grabbed my cup and began filling it with soda while waiting for our order to be finished. Once we got home, I put my long hair up in a ponytail before eating. I then lifted my vegetable beef soup out of the bag, and my hand was suddenly doused in chili that somehow spilled all over the top of the lid and on the bottom of the container. We never put the bag on its side or upside down while transporting it, so an employee was clearly responsible for this mess. I had to rinse the lid and styrofoam container (not to mention my hand) off, which is something I've never had to do before with Hungry Hobo to-go orders. While in the middle of eating the soup, I lifted my spoon to find something long and dangly hanging from it. At first, I thought it was a fiber from one of the vegetables. Upon closer inspection, it was a STRAND OF HAIR! With my hair still up in a ponytail, I showed it to my husband in disgust, explaining how it certainly didn't belong to me. I then proceeded to dump the remainder of the soup in the trash. This wasn't the only mishap, though. When my husband lifted his styrofoam container of chili out of the bag (which was originally sitting below my container of soup), his hand ALSO became doused in chili! We discovered the container had somehow been punctured, and the styrofoam had a massive dent in it. At this point, my husband lost complete interest in the chili, and in the trash it went with the remainder of my vegetable beef soup. This was especially disappointing to my husband because he enjoys Hungry Hobo chili, and he went out of his way to pay extra for the larger size that he didn't even get to eat. (Was this incident the reason for all of the staring? Transferring the soup and chili to different containers would have been a more thoughtful action.) Our sandwiches were fine, as usual, but this abnormal experience with their soup and chili is making us question whether we want to continue ordering from this convenient location that is just minutes away from where we live. Apparently, hair ties and red visors aren't enough to keep strands out of food. Maybe investing in hairnets is a better idea! read more

past summer went thru drive thru and ordered a ton of # 11's for a family picnic. when got to picnic they were all #2's. so so so embarrassing and disappointing. won't be going again. that's a big difference in price. get brains ppl. read more

The drive thru is incredibly slow. There should be an order ahead requirement or option, or the ability to pull into a parking spot to wait for the food. Once in the slow line - unable to exit. I've currently been trapped in the drive thru line for 30 minutes and still counting, with two cars in front of me. Not appropriate set up for a drive thru. We had never been to a Hungry Hobo before, but decided to give it a shot. Giving this place 1 star is being generous. The service was ok, but the person taking our order spoke at such a low volume he was impossible to hear. We all ordered sandwiches and all I can say is BLAND! The ingredients seemed rather fresh, but literally had no flavor and that included every topping available. Do NOT go here unless you enjoy bland & boring food. I'd rather eat a plate of dog crap. Not sure why the doubled down on the drive thru idea when it never worked at the Eldridge location. 15-20 minute wait is typical for 2-3 cars ahead of you in the drive thru line. Every time I drive through the Quad Cities, this is one of the places I HAVE to visit. To address some of the previous reviews, it's not the best sub place you'll ever go to, but it is still a very good sub. What makes their subs so awesome is their bread. The bread is soft and just melts in your mouth as you eat it. I strongly prefer their bread over Jimmy John's or Subway bread. Their ingredients typically complement the bread very well in that one bite will give you a mix of flavors that melt in your mouth. I had the Roast + Beef with Cheddar with everything on it which I always love. I went with some friends that had the Steak with Onions and it looked fantastic. Since I went on a Sunday night with very few people there, the service was pretty good (but it's not like the staff was very challenged). The price of a sub is roughly $6-7 and you get a LOT for a King sized sub. They usually have coupons, too, to knock off a bunch of the price. The fries they serve are waffle fries and aren't the best in the world, but the subs are definitely worth a try. read more

Every single time we come to the new middle road location in Bettendorf, IA we wait 20 minutes in the drive through. We expect it and still go there because we love the sandwiches. This past Sunday 6/26/2022 there were 5 cars in the drive through so we went inside to order instead. We arrived at 1:16pm and stood at the counter waiting for our order until 1:56pm. There were 5 people working. 2 young men behind the counter making sandwiches were talking to each other 95% of the time with no sandwiches coming out for orders. Literally for 25-30 minutes no sandwiches were coming out. During that time the manager stepped away towards the bathroom and didn't come back the entire time we were there. I watched the guy who was working the fryer pick up fries off the floor and not change his gloves, also watched him touch his face and microphone with those same gloves. He just continued working minimally. I'm not one to complain but I don't think 2 king sandwiches, 2 regular sandwiches and 3 cheese curds should take 40 minutes while you are standing at the counter waiting. No way this would have happened at the old location. People left behind us because it was taking so long. The girl in front of us wasn't even acknowledged at the ordering station for probably 15 minutes and was clearly annoyed. Hobo has always been a family favorite, but in the last couple years, I think their quality has diminished. Their buns are shrinking, the amount of meat they give you is skimpy. Also, their service at their Ave of the Cities store is sub par. Order takers and cashiers not listening to you, having to repeat your order several times. Or being charged and given a size drink you didn't ask for. All in all, I will continue to eat there, but after a meal, kinda wished I hadn't. read more

I have been coming here for years with rare problems. Sometimes an order would be slightly wrong, it happens. Otherwise, good, friendly service. Unfortunately, I'm writing this review due to my most recent order, what a train wreck! I got carry-out with my wife, and it was a pretty darn simple order: 2 soups, 2 sandwiches. When we got home, that's where the problems started. Her soup contained a very long hair, that was not hers. Found it within 2 bites, disgusting. My soup? Even weirder. The cup had a hole (honestly, a hole) near the top, so my sealed cup of chili had spilled itself out all over the inside of the bag. As they filled the cup and it started spilling, you'd think that they would've easily seen this was happening. I'm assuming they did, and just didn't care. I never took a bite of the little that was left inside the cup, fearing more hair. I live close by, but there are more than enough Hungry Hobos in this area that I can easily avoid this location, which I will be from now on. Gross. read more

Just moved to the QC area and thought I would try out one of the "local" places. Not impressed at all. Got one of the grilled steak sandwiches (steak and cheese is what it is) and while the sandwich itself was decent, it certainly was not worth the size for the price. Coming from Boston, I expected that the food would be more expensive back home....but based on this place and a couple others, I am a bit disappointed and shocked with the food around here. The quality of the sandwich is definitely better than a Subway or Jimmy Johns....but just nothing special that I will ever go to again. read more

I enjoy hungry hobo at least 2 times a month. The staff is always very prompt and friendly. As for the food the sandwiches are sliced fresh to order. And the loaded potatoes are always a great choice. In the winters I enjoy the wide variety of soup they have. I would recommend hungry hobo to anyone! read more

Man do i wish Hungry Hobo was in Wisconsin. I usually make a trip or three a year just to visit Hungry Hobo. I get like 4 or 5 subs and eat them throughout the week. Like others have said i love the Bread. Its way better than all the big chains. Ingredients seem fresh and delicious! This is a good sub sandwich shop and the bread is the real hook. I usually go for a turkey or itailian sandwich loaded up with all of the veggies and light mayo. Mildly crave-able, it is far from anything gourmet, but is a cut above what you would expect from a chain sub shop. I like the fact that it is a QC institution with multiple locations in the area. The interior of the stores is somewhat spartan and they do need to provide additional attention to cleaning the restaurant during the lunch rush. Also, one soda machine for self-serve gets a little backed up at times. Overall, I like the Hungry Hobo! read more
