Michelin rated and I see why - the steak was soooo good Mushroom pizza chess team with sharp provolone and sweet peppers for the win. Very efficient service - they take your order in one spot - you name goes in a sign- they announce your name when you food is ready and then you pick up And pay- easy- very easy It's a corner store , - park in the neighborhood and you can eat to go or outside - - choices - we got it to go and ate in the car- well worth the effort . Once you get to the window you order what you want and then you only pay for the drinks at 1st then they call your name so you can go to the pickup window and you pay for you food then. They don't have an inside dining area just a few tables outside. It was a rainy day so getting wet was inevitable. It wasn't a pour down so we could sit and enjoy the food. We ordered two Philly cheesesteak and one chicken cheesesteak. We were asked if we wanted "fried onions" and well it the same as grilled onions and not like an onion ring, just FYI. The chicken did not have much flavor but adding the peppers they give you it adds some and my mom enjoyed it. The cheesesteak was good too but also the steak was a bit flavorless. The sandwich is big and you need to ask to be cut in half, they just give it to you whole. It gets busy and they only accept cash. They do have an ATM machine on site if needed. Parking is on the street and not bathroom that I saw. This would be a place I come back but I'll bring some salt and pepper with me.

It's a small place where you order at the outdoor counter, there's no indoor seating. Highly recommend the Gilroy, which is their cheesesteak served on garlic bread. Cheesesteaks have a special place in my heart due to being raised in a pizza shop as a kid.(Family…read morebusiness). With that said let's get into this. The cheesesteak is okay. That is it. Nothing special. For almost $17 a steak I want it to be meaty, cheesey and the roll not to be stale. I ordered 4 cheesesteaks for $76 . Ordered a steak with fried onions and they forgot the onions on it along with the Bleu cheese I order for the buffalo steak. Their buffalo sauce is a bit sweet which threw me off but I did like that they chopped the chicken breast up well. This is not a walk in spot. You go up to the first window and they take your order ,then give your order at the second window. They should put a bell at the order window so the workers know people are outside. The gentleman at the window was nice but every time the windows opened and closed it didn't smell like steak and onions as much as it smelled like weed. Would I go back, no. The best cheesesteak in the area is still Goldbergers in Haddonfield, NJ. Always try restaurants for yourself. Maybe your experience will be better.

John's Roast Pork is legendary in Philly - it's been around for decades - 96 years to be exact! I'd been there once before many years ago (couldn't remember anything about it) and thought it was time for a revisit. I got the large Roast Pork sandwich - you can see from the attached picture the 'preferred toppings' (Dad's Way) are: Mustard Raw onions Hot seeded pepper American cheese I had only the Mild Provolone cheese on mine - no mustard, raw onions or seeded pepper. I would have had cooked (caramelized) onions - but they had only raw...and American cheese was not a choice for me (I was raised on it). The pork is supposed to be 'slow roasted (7 hours) pork shoulder (pork butt)' - and it may very well be, but it reminds me of the meat that's carved off the large vertical rotisseries for gyros. It doesn't look that appealing - it's like a large sub sandwich. The pork was soft, tender and seasoned well - the roll was very good - John's had been getting its bread from Carangi Bakery. However, the bakery closed due to a fire so I'm not sure where the bread is from, unless it reopened. I finally satisfied my curiosity about John's and went to see what the sandwich was like. While it probably ranks as one of the better 'pork/steak' sandwiches in Philly, I just couldn't get excited about it.

Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the reputation. We ordered Philly cheesesteaks, and while I was ready to taste something iconic, what I got was a black pepper overload. The seasoning completely overpowered the meat, which was disappointing. Even worse, the bread-to-meat ratio was way off. My roll was soggy, and no amount of mayonnaise or ketchup could save it. We also ordered onion rings and chicken tenders for our toddler. The onion rings were fried to the point of being rock hard. Not crispy, just tough. The chicken tenders were dry and flavorless. Our toddler ate some and said they were "good," but even she didn't want the leftovers the next day and neither did we. Hubby said to be fair, the staff was sweet and very accommodating, which we appreciated. However great service can't cover up subpar food. Sadly, High Steaks missed the mark for us, and in a city known for doing cheesesteaks right, that's a big letdown.
