This is a delicious Indian spot in the South Bronx near Yankee Stadium and the Courthouse. You can either get food to go or eat in. They also appear to run a big delivery service. If you eat in, they have a very nice set up with table clothes. The service was excellent and the people who work there are extremely nice. They have a large selection of vegetarian Indian food and they will even do many of their dishes vegan. I had the daal makhani which was delicious and was some of the best daal I've had. It wasn't too creamy but rather was filled with flavors and spices. It was quite delicious and the portions are quite generous. This place is also super affordable! Was excited to find an Indian place near us in the Bronx. We've done Hungry Bird mostly for apps, sides, etc., and they haven't disappointed. Their pakora aren't amazing (too doughy), but the samosas, papadum, naan, aloo papri, and chutneys are all great. The service has always been excellent too. I've ordered food from here a couple of times and it is always consistently delicious and perfectly spiced. I normally get the vegetable samosas, the aloo gobi curry, and naan. The food is still warm by the time it gets to my house, which isn't super close to the establishment, so that is pretty impressive. It's so difficult to find anything other than Latino food in the South Bronx, so this restaurant adds great diversity and flavors to the dining options in this area. Two words: Darn Good!!!! Today is my second time ordering from here. My my first time I ordered the chicken samosas and chicken kabobs. Both were truly flavorful and tasty! Today, I ordered the chicken biriyani and the samosas (I have fallen in love with them at first bite!) with a seltzer to wash down all that food action! The chicken biriyani was a massive order! So I've officially converted to vegetarian / as vegan as I can go... This was a great buy a bit pricey but really yummy. So I had the chick peas and spinach with curry vegetables lastly it came with Jasmine rice and I will say it was very good and very filling. The atmosphere was nice I didn't eat in but the service seemed to be very caring and attentive. I have to agree that all the staff is amazing from the cashier guy to the delivery guys. So I took my parents for the first time to restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised by the food which was out of this world and decor was wonderful because it was in the Bronx and not Queens. I got my whole family hooked to Hungry Bird food and their delivery service. Today Hungry Bird made my day. I order over the phone my usually order of the Lamb Dostana, Behi-Puri, and Onion bhaji. The person taking my order asked me if I wanted Mango Lassi so said OK. The Delivery came and I got my food and I even gave him a tip even though it says free delivery. When got inside I checked the bag and found my mango lassi was missing. So I texted the delivery guy and then call the restaurant that it was missing. The person who was taking my order said that he forgot and would send someone out with it. I told them it was ok that I didn't want them to trek back to my home just for a mango lassi. I told them that next time I order they could add to it and he agreed. I few minutes past and I get a call from hungry bird that they have another delivery in my area and if I would like the mango lassi now? So, I said yes if it is not to much trouble. He said ok, I going to send my guy out. The delivery guy comes and I thanked him and said I would write this review for hungry bird. When I got inside I opened the bag and found my mango lassi and rice pudding on the house. I've been to the "best" Indian restaurants in Jackson heights and I tell you this place beats them all. Absolutely delicious!! There is no bathroom here, though there is seating inside. They ask you to go to the deli next door and buy something there to use their restroom or to the hair salon down the street. Technically legal for a restaurant with less than 20 seats, but still strange for a sit down Indian restaurant. Food is solid here, portions are great. I had the vegetable Samosas and the Vegetable Jalfrezi. Both were very good. This is a tiny, family owned restaurant in the South Bronx that I went to on my lunch hour when I was in the area. It is refreshing to have an Indian restaurant in the Bronx because usually I go to Manhattan for it. The staff there was nice and accommodating. Great tasting, healthy, fast and fair priced Indian food in the mid-South Bronx. They do most of their business through delivery, but also have a pleasant area for table seating. They are always willing to accommodate special requests, such as making a vegetarian dish vegan, or making something extra spicy. Lately I have been getting chana shaagwala, vegan and extra spicy, sometimes with roti and vegetable samosas. Everything is delicious, the roti is fresh, and the samosas are large, crispy on the outside and flavorful. I've also had the chana masala (vegan and non-vegan), vegetable jalfrezi, and dal makhani. This is delicious authentic indian food made with love and real ingredients. Super affordable too. I've eaten at Hungry Bird many times and I order delivery at least once a month, it's always fresh, delicious and consistent. They are vegan friendly, and no notorious indian takeout oil ring around my food.It doesn't get any better than the 15.99 Hungry Bird special, especially because it's never old greasy Indian food with excessive amounts of butter (most likely cheap margerine) and cream. I continue to order take-out from this place, time and time again. The food is delicious and the customer service? EXCEEDS expectations. I'll tell you a short story: My 2nd time ordering delivery through Yelp/Eat24, I was unfortunately disappointed when I never received my order. It turns out, I placed it right at 10 PM, when the restaurant closes,but the order went through and my card was charged for the meal anyway. No biggie, I called the restaurant the next day and calmly explained what happened. The gentleman on the line (I'm sorry I have forgotten his name) was very apologetic and understanding. There was some confusion in the beginning, when I tried to explain Eat24 charged my account, but nevertheless, he apologized and suggested I call Eat24 to request the refund. OK, I did that, got the $ promptly. Seamless. (No pun intended). What I haven't shared is that the restaurant employee, despite not being responsible for the charge, STILL offered me the next meal on the house. I didn't think it was necessary, but he refused to take no for an answer. So I agreed to call them again when I got back into town. About 2 weeks later, he calls ME (sounds creepy, but I had left my # for follow-up to the charge on my account in question). Anyway, he left a message reminding me that I have a free meal to redeem, to make up for the inconvenience, and that they want to make it up to me. Great! I called them a week later, and not only did he recommend an outstanding dish, he threw in dessert as well! I don't think I've ever experienced service like this, let alone from a small hole in the wall in the BX. The end. I am giving this five stars because the food was quite good (not great, but very good) and it's in my neighborhood! I am so excited. Nothing against pizza, Dominican food, Chinese, and chicken, but after 15 years of the same options in takeout, this is VERY exciting. I thought the naan was great - just as good as any Indian restaurant in Queens or Manhattan. The chicken tikka masala was pretty good - a little sweet for my taste, but my son loved it. I ordered twice from this place. The first time i try to order through grub hub but it stated that restaurant closed. Best in the neighborhood, hands down. Especially if you are vegetarian. The chef and a number of people who work here are from Bangladesh, one of the regular servers is from Nepal, I believe. Service is always a little leisurely, but charming personalities make up for it. Came in with my whole family one time, including a cranky infant. The server entertained the kid nearly the whole meal--he literally picked him up and carried him around pointing at things and captivated him. My family now refers to him as "the baby whisperer." The food is excellent. The naan is delicious. Listen to the servers and they will help you pick out the right stuff, but we haven't ordered anything that wasn't super tasty. Just finished eating my order that I placed online. Not many restaurants deliver to my location, so I was a little leery when ordering but decided to give Hungry Bird a try. The food was delivered in a timely manner considering the distance of the restaurant to my home. I appreciated the delivery guy coming upstairs to my 4th floor apartment as I am due to give birth any moment and having horrible contractions. The food was hot and packed well. I ordered the chicken tikka masala, which is my usual go to for Indian food. This also came with naan bread and chicken samosas. The chicken samosas were a bit dry but still tasty. The chicken tikka masala was very good. The chicken was moist and the sauce was flavorful and creamy. I could definitely eat the sauce with just the basmati rice and be perfectly content.
