Staff was very nice and efficient even while they were low staffed. Food was very good and they have arguably the best milkshake out there.

The restaurant and restrooms are small and clean. Order some basic food items from a kiosk. The House Salad was fresh and good. The bacon cheeseburger with Cajun fries was very good! We would eat here again. read more

Unfortunately, our experience at Hungry Bear was very disappointing. The fried food was overcooked to the point that it had a burnt, bitter taste. The batter was also much too thick, trapping a lot of oil inside and making the food extremely greasy and heavy. It simply wasn't enjoyable to eat. The service didn't make things any better. You're asked to tip while placing your own order at the kiosk, before you've received any actual service. I left an 18% tip. When our food was brought out, there was no tartar sauce. We asked the employee for some, and he said he had forgotten it and would go back inside to get it. He went inside... and apparently forgot about us too, because he never came back. If tipping had happened AFTER the meal, based on the food and service we actually received, there is absolutely no way I would have left 18%. Hungry Bear may have a memorable name, but unfortunately, the food and service were memorable for all the wrong reasons. Definitely not a place I'd return to. read more

Came here for breakfast with my family during a trip to Yosemite. Just not a great experience all around. We walked in and there was no one to greet us. After a few minutes, an employee came from the back and directed us toward a kiosk where we could place our order. We placed our order then found some seats. It was a little after sunrise so there was a pretty bad glare. We went to lower a couple of the shades so that we could see each other. One of the employees happened to be walking through the dining room and raised the sun shade, blinding us. We asked if they could leave it down, but the employee said that they were supposed to leave them up. When our food finally arrived, all of the meals were in to go containers even though we selected the dine in option on the kiosk. I also ordered a banana cream pie latte, but I wasn't told they couldn't make it until after the food arrived. I decided to go with the smores latte instead. It was so sweet, I did not enjoy it at all. The food itself was pretty decent, but there really was no service other than them bringing out our food and drinks. My brother ordered a drip coffee and asked for a refill. The employee told him that it was self serve and that he could get a refill in the front. I wouldn't mind this place for takeout, but the dining room experience was one of the worst I've had. read more

Came to this location 30 years ago (probably different business) and stopped by for a family dinner around 6pm on Saturday. No staff visible and just a kiosk. Ordered the food and it was $80 for a family of 4. Good portions or fries and burgers are double patty. $3.50 for a bottled soda is crazy. All the condiments were empty and behind the counter looked messy. The boy working was very nice, but small operation and no management. Avocado toast was good. The service is counter service but all the food is served in plastic to go containers which is a turn off for me especially when I'm dining in. The menu is much different than the menus on this current yelp listing, much more limited. The tables were not being regularly cleaned between guests when we were in there. Staying with family in the area and figured we give them a shot. Cute interior, convenient location convenient considering it's a really small town/area. Right next to the local grocery store. We had French toast and the ultimate omlette. Omlette was really big, very filling and I cleared my plate. Normally I'd have shared a photo but no one wants to see an empty plate photo. My daughter really enjoyed the French toast. It comes with a cup of fruit that looked to be fresh cut and 2 sausage as well. For drinks we had a drip coffee, and a chai tea. The tea was ready before I had finished added cream and sugar to the coffee. Indoor seating is comfortable. It is a tad strange to order and then seat yourself and then pick up your food when the buzzer they give you goes off, but it is a real small place. Quirks are normal in remote locations. The girl who took our order was super polite and gave us the rundown on the setup of the place. Overall good experience and good food. read more

Hungry Bear Cafe is on Highway 120 in Groveland. The service is friendly and the food is delicious. We had burgers, BLT, Club, and chicken sandwiches and drinks. They give you very large portions. They have a clean bathroom. There is a nice park nextdoor if you have time. Very close to Hetch Hetchy and Yosemite. Thanks for a great lunch on May 3!!! read more

Counter person was friendly and helpful. But we waited 20-25 min for our burgers. When it came, the fries were hot, crisp and good. Veggie mushroom burger was good. But the western burger was deemed mediocre, and was tepid rather than hot. All food served in plastic takeout containers which seemed sturdy enough for reuse. I don't write negative reviews despite having fairly bad experiences but this restaurant takes the cake. There were hardly any people and we were waiting for our food for an hour and a half. When we asked the waitress (younger girl with black hair and glasses) why it was taking so long, she shrugged us off and said she had no control of the kitchen and walked off. The photo of my supposedly scrambled eggs says it all. We visited on a Wednesday morning. Were greeted by the stench of burning marijuana. Coffee canisters were empty - found out after we paid for fresh coffee. Took 10 minutes to get coffee. Wife ordered a breakfast sandwich on sourdough. Cook said he only had 1 slice of sourdough, so he would have to go to the grocery store? Wife said, make it on white. When it came to our table - one piece of old sourdough, one piece of Wonder bread? My "scrambled eggs" were gray, floating in a pool of melted margarine, and consisted of a fried egg patty that was cut into pieces. I tried one bite - spit it out and ate the breakfast potatoes and bacon. Coffee was self-serve. Canisters were empty, again, when we tried to get a 2nd cup? No one else in the place - who drinks the coffee??? Disaster of a breakfast in a clear mistake of a restaurant.
