This is a neighborhood market specializing in mostly Vietnamese goods. They have a great selection on dried goods, frozen and shelf items. As for produce, tofu and meats - they aren't that plentiful and fresh. Service is good. They are friendly and always helpful. Prices are reasonable. I wouldn't come here unless I needed just a couple items. I'm willing to take the extra hike to Rockville to grab everything I need in one stop. read more

I really enjoy coming to this family-run market for the foods I miss from SE Asia. Only place near where I live where I can get my fix of M150 or Krating Daeng LOL. Also the only place that I've seen where I can actually buy a whole Durian fruit. The food bar and bubble tea bar really make good food and drink as well. Owners are friendly and helpful. read more

Family run. That's one of the reasons I come here. Yeah they don't have as large a selection as the Korean mega Marts but what they do have you cant buy. I have been coming here since I was 15 with my mom. Coming here is like coming home for me. They have grown with the times adding a hot food bar and restaurant in the back but they have always managed to stay the little mom and pop grocery store where you are greeted by name upon entering offered noodles and other goodies at check out. The second generation is starting to take over now. Seeing them grow and going off to school and now coming back and putting their own touch into the family business. They have added a coffee/smoothie bar offering many delicious bubble teas and natural fruit smoothies. What sets themselves apart is the fact theyI use fresh fruit instead of the flavored powders so many other bubble tea places use. They take in special request and they go above and beyond to make every drink perfect. The oldest son Mike runs this little gem. Give it a try if you find yourself shopping in the area. Next door to the storied Nava THai restaurant in Wheaton is a magnificent pan - Asian supermarket offering everything you can possibly ever need if you like any kind of Asian food. We left with bucket loads of Neur Nam Tok sauces, sirichi sauce, hisin sauce, do-it-your-self Pho- pounds of noodles, cilantro and about 5 shopping bags of other goodies - all fort he princely sum of $22. I happened to stumble upon Asian grocery store when I was trying to find the Nava Thai (actually right next door). I walked in not expecting much since from the outside it looked so tiny. But I was wowed. This place has huge selections of noodles, sauces, teas. They also had a section for frozen (not much) and vegetables (more expensive then H mart), but hey, if you don't have a car. This place is the next best thing. The owner was so helpful, nice, and very talkative. Apparently his brother owns Mi Lay Clay next door. Cool huh? Anyway, great selection, will defiantly come here if I can't get to H mart. read more

I had to check this out after lunching at Kob next door. It's got everything you might expect in a Southeast Asian market, in very compact form. Expect to do-si-do with other patrons in the narrow aisles. Fish, meats, vegetables (fresh bamboo shoots), teas, noodles, canned exotic ingredients (whole snakehead fish in a jar), and a corner with incense and the paper goods that are burned to pass to departed ancestors. read more

I'm so glad that this place was open till 8PM on Sunday! We were STARVING and ended up at Nava Thai place next door. After dinner, I stopped by to pick up some Chinese Groceries that I can never get. This is your typical Asian grocery store. They had fresh Cheng fun that I had to buy a package of. That stuff is good with pretty much anything. With veggies and soy sauce or with a dash of sugar. You can't go wrong with this stuff! They're veggies looked pretty good. I was not in the market for veggies, but they looked nice and fresh. If they had fresh loongnan and lychees that would have been awesome! But I did not see any.... It's a bit disorganized, but what Asian grocery store is organized? You just have to know what you're looking for. The ladies in front were so friendly when they checked me out. She even told me some serving suggestions for the cheng fun. I wished I lived closer so I can get my Asian food fix. read more

I haven't really shopped for groceries here but whenever I'm in Wheaton, I always swing by Hung Phat for my Thai dessert fix. My favorites are kanoom luerm gruen (yummy glutinous mung bean base with heavenly coconut cream topping) and thong yib (sweet golden egg yolk dessert). next time i'll be a little more adventurous and look around the rest of the store! Great friendly service. Has a lot of Vietnamese foods and other little asian delicacies you usually would have to go to a busy Korean packed market for. Very nice place. Plenty of selection, I have enjoyed what I bought: everything from asian spoons and bowls to curry paste, fish balls, prepared sausage meals and a wonderful fresh made red hot sauce from the cooler by the door. This is also a great place to experience some culture as there is nearly always a loud and lively asian language (not sure which, maybe thai?) conversation near the front of the store. This place is highly recommended, and I almost gave 5 stars. Only downside is that it is small and densely packed, but given the location I think they do a LOT with what they have! Finally great thai restaurants in the area, gotta try 'em all! read more

Love love love this little grocery store!!! Well stocked with asian condiments esp in Thai and Vietnamese condiments. But there are some from Malaysia and Indonesia condiments, too. The store carries a good range of instant noodles, fish sauces, rice vermicelli, Vietnamese & Thai-made bullions. It also carries Taiwan mixed spices for braised pork. Besides that they also carry fresh rice noodles, cooked food like kway chap, black glutinous rice dessert, assortment of steamed cakes, curry puffs, dough fritters etc. Definitely would be back in the future!! Well, we ate a Nava Thai Grill right next door. After dinner we ventured into this market (actually, they have a connecting door). Admittedly, there are few offerings, for Asian markets near the PG/Montgomery line. I have visited most of them. They include H-mart (a Korean Market ) up on Georgia, LA Mart down on University Ave, the Asian Market on University, Thai Market on Thayer in Silver Spring and Korean Korner up on Veirs Mill. There are a couple more good ones if you're willing to venture into downtown Rockville. Hung Phat bills itself as a vietnamese market, but it has plenty of Thai and all the Chinese offerings. This small market is one of the best that I've found I found the staff helpful and knowledgeable when I had a question. Basically, it's packed with stuff. The produce selection wasn't huge, but the shelf stable grocery section was surprisingly large. They're open until 8:30 during week nights and the prices were quite good. Ask for the the fresh wide cut rice noodles and make the best Chow Fun you've ever had. I used to live in San Francisco, where I was spoiled, when it came to Asian markets. I have searched out all the markets here for my essential asian ingredients. This one seems to have it all. When you're done shopping, throw the stuff in your trunk and head out back to Nava Thai or across University to Ruan Thai for dinner or lunch. You can't go wrong at either. read more

I just found my Holy Grail Vietnamese grocery store yesterday, and it isn't in the evil, stressful, and generally mean confines of Eden Center: Hung Phat. Bonus: it's a few blocks from Ren's! Lots of Vietnamese/SE Asian ingredients to choose from -- cha lua, bi, nem (my fave), all kinds of rice noodles both fresh and dry, sauces and spices galore, a small fresh meat section, a decent fresh herb & veggie selection, and a handy grab&go of banh mi, roasted pork, desserts, and banh cuon. Hung Phat also has you covered with bowls, plates, and simple kitchen utensils like strainers and tongs. There is bubble tea and a hot bar of Thai foods as well. And if you're wanting to try out your green thumb, they have a small offering of potted herbs/peppers to get you started. I got their banh cuon to eat on the go, and it was deeeelicious. Their prices aren't bad, either. The selection isn't as overwhelmingly hodgepodge and large as the grocers in the 703, but the non-hostile, actually (shockingly) friendly, chatty shop owner who not only noticed I was buying frozen cha lua, but redirected me to freshly made ones, more than makes up for it. He also gave me a shrimp roll to sample, even though I didn't ask for one. Very nice of him! There is a small parking lot. I went on a Friday afternoon, around 3 PM, so finding a spot was easy-peasy, but be warned, the place is not Wal-Mart SuperStore-sized, so you will be scooting in and out as you navigate your way around people and boxes. To be frank, I really appreciate that this is grocery store isn't intimidatingly gargantuan, and in fact has a homey, neighborhood feel to it. During my visit, a few cans of prik khing paste (yes, there are tons of Thai staples and spices for your next homemade panang curry or pad Thai) accidentally rolled out of my shopping cart, making a big plop! sound (I was mortified; the shop was fairly quiet). But the shop owner and his son were so gracious and gentle about it all, picking the items up off the floor for me (the cans had rolled near their feet) and amiably waving off my profuse apologies. It sounds like a silly thing, but small touches like that really stand out. The kindness from the staff and the shop owner is such an added bonus on top of the tasty goods they offer. It is so very, very nice to shop at a grocery store where you don't feel as though you're inconveniencing someone if you ask a question or are insulting them merely by, like, being in their store. This grocery distinguishes itself from the myriad of Viet/Asian groceries I've visited for its astonishingly welcoming, friendly, and helpful atmosphere, and honestly, you can't put a price on that. This tiny place had a nice selection -- we found everything we needed and more (with a little help from the frienly folks who work there)! In fact, my friend picked up an aloe drink he'd been searching for in several other stores. The prices were very reasonable too - I'd definitely go back when in the area. Owner was friendly ( the gentlemen that worked at the register, i'm guessing he is the owner ). Sister was looking for Sator Bean, and this is the only place that have them in the entire DMV, not in GW, not in Lotte ( we looked ) and it is here. The store was clean and offer kinda variety of selection. They served cooked food as well, served like cafeteria style if you are in a hurry for a quick lunch for take out, you should check them out. Plenty of choice from the desserts, do not know if they are any good, but still, if you craving for more authentic desserts that you growth up with, you'd be acting like a kid in the candy store when you come here. This place is an awesome little treasure trove of oddities. So far, I've bought a sticky rice steamer and basket, frozen banana leaves, white pepper, 3 kinds of soy sauce, a bunch of different kinds of curry paste, loose thai tea, thai basil, and... the best... fresh rice noodle. When I'm on a budget, it's super easy and convenient to just make my own Drunken Noodle at home with the delicious noodles. Extra bonus? The noodles are only $3. Woo-hoo! read more

Prior to discovering this hidden gem, I would drive all the way to Woodbridge, VA to global foods to buy betelnut. That trip was always tough on gas and mileage. Thankfully I found this place, they seem to be the only store near Silver Spring that sells betelnut. You know we Pasifik islanders cant go a day without them. Thank you Hung Phat. A nice gem in the middle of Wheaton. They also happen to sell bubble tea! Comes in a lot of flavors and is super cheap. Very delicious. I'm a Kung Fu Tea fan, but Hung Phat's boba are equally as delicious, if not more. Definitely worth a try. The store also sells great pre-made curries that you can get a-la-cart. read more

This is such a cute mom&pop shop for asian groceries! The asian man who owns it is always friendly and welcoming. The prices are low and you can get a lot for a great price. Its a small shop but they pack a lot in there. There's even a Thai food bar...which Ms.Tum cooks the best authentic thai food in the wheaton area for cheap! This is the one place to get the BEST rice noodles....perfect for making bahn cuon or stir fried noodles. You can find foreign delicacies such as belut (duck and chicken embrios) or durian. This is also my go-to spot for asian treats like coconut buns, lotus flower cookies, sweet coconut milk desserts and sweet sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves. read more

I always go here or to Angkor Supermarket for my Vietnamese groceries (Hmart only has so much...). It's a small place but has everything you need - dry foods, produce, frozen foods, meat, etc. They even have ready-made foods (ca hap chien, banh uot, etc) and desserts (banh cam, che, etc) for purchase. The owners who work there are really friendly and helpful. The space in the store is a little cramped but it's never been so busy to the point that you can't move around in the market. Parking is also cramped, but I've never had a problem. Would probably be an issue during lunch or dinner and on the weekends due to the nearby Thai restaurants. There's a small shared lot and also metered street parking available. Minimum purchase requirement for credit cards. read more
