Hunan Gardens was the perfect stop off for noodles while traveling along I75. Cozy little spot, we grabbed some take out. The vegetable lomein was served up quickly, piping hot and simply amazing! It definitely was a treat, way better than fast food! The crab Rangoon were raved about in the comments so I had to get an order. Yes! They tasted fresh & not frozen- something very rare. The crab was delicious. I will definitely come back here when traveling through the area. It's a MUST try! read more

Clean, welcoming, and good food. I'm vegetarian, and my server was very helpful and explaining what might be made with ingredients I can't have, versus what was fully vegetarian. They're not a lot of options for me, but I felt confident that what I was eating would not make me sick. Comfortable booths, clean bathroom. I'd like to come back. read more

Prolly the best Asian food in Lima. But recently the staff has changed over because of age. Never seen more Latinos in an Asian joint. . The place has traditional Chinese look but it's way outdated. Don't look in the kitchen. Eat the food and leave. read more

There's really good food, authentic, that they will always make it as desired! The crab lagoon is the best you can get anywhere, I will eat it from nowhere but here now... Nothing else compares. The hot tea is delightful! The prices are great. read more

The Asian delicacy has my heart in a stranglehold. There aren't many things that make my heart flutter quite like this. It was excruciating to choose only one offering, but somehow I landed on Orange Beef. Battered and fried beef, sautéed and glazed with orange peels in a spicy orange sauce. Very unique dish to say the least. It checked all the boxes for flavor, texture and presentation. The orange peels provided a pleasing contrast to the sweetness of the sauce. Very, very, very delightful. read more

Personalized service. Get non breaded sweet and sour chicken and pork. Food is hot. Won ton soup very good

We stopped in out of the blue when we got off in the exit. It was about 4:30pm on a weekday, so they weren't busy. We ordered the dinner special, which is a bargain. My wife had Kung Pao Chicken and I had Kung Pao Shrimp. The Hot and Sour soup was excellent. The egg roll was decent. The rice and entree we very good. We will be stopping here again! read more

Great food and a local favorite. Nice experience if you dine in. We mainly get take out though. I like numerous dishes, nothing I haven't liked. My husband doesn't care for their general tso, the sauce is quite different than what we've had at any other Chinese restaurant. He says it reminds him of ketchup. Truly the only dish we've not cared for. read more

Egg roll and crab Rangoon we top notch. The tea is super good. I didn't have time to get a full meal. I just wanted the appetizers read more

It was good. So hot and sour soup was excellent. Egg roll was fantastic. Came with the cream cheese wonton. The fried rice was great. I had the Mongolian beef and it was OK, it was good, but I've had better. Could've used more spice and flavor. The tea fantastic. And when a Chinese restaurant has the Chinese zodiac placemats you know it's a pretty good joint. Definitely recommend them. read more

One of my favorite restaurants. Love the sesame beef or the chicken lo main! Deb is the best

My favorite Chinese restaurant! Nothing can compare to the delicious food I always get when I visit. The staff is always friendly, efficient, and welcoming. The space is bright and comfortable with comfortable seating. I always look forward to a meal at Hunan Gardens! read more

The food was better than expected. This place is better than Average Chinese food. All staff attentive to customers. Ambiance was typical Asian restaurant. read more

Another Chinese joint I really enjoy. One of very few Chinese joints in Lima, OH. The place is not fancy. In fact, snobbish folks would say it needs updated. It's fine how it is. I'm happy that they focus more on having good food. They always offer hot tea when you sit and have a bowl of chips at the table w/ sweet and sour sauce. The staff isn't just friendly, they're quite personable. Ok, the food...... I've been here a couple of times and was very pleased both times. The food was delicious and the portions were not skimpy. It is just the right amount of food. The presentation was nice too.(check my posted pic) read more

I was visiting my friend in Lima, OH and I was craving for some good Chinese food. Its is a small town and I was not very hopeful to find any awesome place like the ones we have here in WA, but I decided to give Hunan a try... Like: the prices are great! I got half size dinner, 1 appetizer, and wonton soup for less than 10 dollars. Dislike: It was the worst fried crab wonton I ever had. There was NO filling at all!! it was like 10% of a teaspoon, that was it. It was also over fried and was very hard to bite. I throw everything away. The wonton soup was just ok, more like seasoned water. For dinner I got shrimp with lobster sauce (my favorite). I was not impressed at all. The amount of shrimp was good, the fried rice was ok, but the lobster sauce had giant pieces of vegetables, I mean really giant. it was not very good at all. If you are in a small town craving for Chinese food, It might worth to go there, but if you had tasted the really good Chinese food or if you are picky, do not waste you time. I don't think I would eat there again... read more

Very pleased to find a better than average, non-chain dining option in Lima. That they deliver super fast to my hotel across the street is a bonus. Every time I drive by, usually weekday dinner time, the parking lot is busy. A good sign. I've eaten in, gotten my food to go, and, most recently, tried delivery. Each time, I've been impressed. Their Hot and Sour Soup is quite good. Their Salt and Pepper Shrimp is also pretty tasty (I'm trying very hard NOT to say 'especially for mid-Ohio'). read more

Not very vegan/vegetarian friendly. We were in the Lima area after a long drive, and after Olive Garden had a 40 minute wait we decided to give it a shot. My parents enjoyed their non vegan/vegetarian meals (General Tso's and Chicken Lomein) However, as a vegan, even their vegetarian options alone were scarce. There was even a lack of tofu on the menu, only bean curd (which isn't my favorite). The bean curd in brown sauce was okay, though obviously not filling cause it was bean curd, not tofu. And the bean curd was even cold upon serving (the sauce was warm, though?) Hunan Gardens was okay, and edible during a car drive, but not ideal for vegetarian folk. read more

Best Chinese food in the area! Nice size portions, hot and they give you plenty of sauce!

Absolutely the best place to eat Chinese cuisine in lima. Premium meals, Fresh ingredients and made to order. Not sitting under heat lamps for hours. Your not paying $10 for dry rice with a few chunks of chicken and a couple peas, like with the other lima Chinese restaurants. I recommend the "chicken vegetable" tell them to make it spicy! Adds the heat to your sauce and a dried chili pepper as garnishment. read more

The Place: Hunan is a reasonably small place - I'm going to guess there are 10-12 booths and 10 tables or so. The decorations are your typical Chinese kitsch - pretty much what you'd expect for a mid-priced eat-in Chinese restaurant. The place is clean and comfortable, and the bathrooms are clean, although very utilitarian (not that that matters to me). The Food: AMAZING. This is my favorite Chinese food on the planet, and I've tried quite a few places in my time. Each meal starts with free hot tea and small fried pieces of flour that you can dip in a sweet sauce - a nice paring to hold you over until the food comes. I nearly always order the Hunan Pork, but I've tried some of the other dishes, and they're all perfect. The meat is high-quality and cooked to perfection. The vegetables are cooked though but crunchy. The sauce is exceptionally good. The rice, both fried and steamed, is good as well. Long story short = all of the food is absolutely delicious. The menu contains all the normal Chinese fare you'd expect, with plenty of beef, pork, chicken and seafood dishes, as well as appetizers, combo dishes and desserts. The Service: I almost always get top-notch service at Chinese restaurants, but this place is the epitome of great service. You're sat immediately, you're order is taken as soon as you're ready, you're order is ALWAYS correct, and you're drinks are always full. As good as it gets! The Price: Couple the amazing food and the amazing service with the rock-bottom prices, and that's what takes Hunan into the stratosphere of the Chinese food world. Big meals can be had for between $7-8 (the lunch/dinner specials include the main dish, as well as an egg roll, crab rangoon, and a bowl of soup served as an appetizer). I can't tell you how many times I've paid $10 (including a drink and tip) for a fantastic meal, and then had to get a to-go box because of all the [delicious] leftovers. Overall: It's really hard for me to put into words how much I love this place. This is one of my favorite restaurants on the PLANET, and I literally have ZERO COMPLAINTS about this wonderful place. I cannot recommend this place enough. It's fantastic. I stop by every time I'm in the Lima area - even making sure I take US 30 back from trips to Chicago so I'm near enough to Hunan to grab a meal. PERFECT. read more

I picked this restaurant completely on the reviews noted by our friends on Yelp. I was seated immediately....water and menu followed...what to choose? I decided to go with the recommendation of Y.C., and picked the Moo-Shu Beef, and went with the dinner special. It came with soup (I picked the hot & sour), and either steamed or fried rice (I went for the steamed rice). It was perfect. It is also enjoyable to watch the restaurant fill up and the waitress to be singled out by returning patrons, all with warm greetings. This tells a lot about this business. I will be back..!!! read more

Absolutely love this place. My mom (when she was alive) and I used to come here ALL the time until I moved to Columbus. When I would come home on the weekends to visit, we'd also come here to eat, visit and catch up. This past weekend I was in town visiting my grandma and asked her if she'd like to meet up with my brother and I and have lunch here. We did. The food was just as good as it always was. The service was great (those ladies are always so nice). If I lived in Lima I would most def be a regular here. I'm tellin ya, they'd be sick of me. read more

Clean environment and the staff was pleasant. I ordered from the lunch menu. The price was good but the serving size was a little skimpy. The taste wasn't the greatest. I love hunan garden. Their food is so good!!! My friends fam owns it (It's me Ava on Brooklynn's acc Kylie!)

I know you shouldn't visit a Chinese restaurant for sushi, but I read in The Lima News that Hunan Garden had introduced sushi to its menu, so I had to try it. Awful. Flavorless, stale and about $7 a roll is the recipe for bad sushi. I ordered the rainbow, spicy scallop and a third roll I thankfully can't remember. Each was worse than the previous. On the bright side, the server was kind and accommodating. Perhaps I'll return to try the Chinese offerings. Hunan Garden's lunch and dinner specials are tempting and cheap. read more

I am not a local to Lima, just in town visiting my guy friend. I'm a fiend for Chinese food, so I thought I'd give this place a try. It definitely hit the spot for me! Definitely better than the average Chinese take-y out-y type restaurant! The waitress brought us water AND hot tea upon seating us. I had the Empress Chicken and my guy friend had the Sweet & Sour Chicken. The dinners came with one egg roll, one crab rangoon, and a bowl of [delicious] egg drop soup. Everything was very, very satisfying. The server was nice. And the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasant. I will definitely come here again if I come back to Lima. read more

Great food. Good presentation, excellent tea. There may not be better Chinese food within 50 miles. The service was superb. The servers don't hover at all, yet it took all of five seconds to place my order after I'd closed the menu. Not once did I have to ask for a refill, and the food was out quickly. Lacking is nice atmosphere. It's fairly typical for a Chinese restaurant, and I hate to say it, but not bad for the local standard. I might just be upset that there doesn't seem to be a nice restaurant in Lima. Maybe I'll try the Olive Garden tomorrow. If you aren't like me and longing for a nice restaurant, highly recommended. read more

Kung Pao Chicken should not smell like burned soy beans. At least it's not dry. Grease is dripping out of the bag all over my car seat. Thank God they are leather and not cloth. The Crab Rangoon is okay, but the crab is runnier than I am accustomed to. Will not be back. read more

I used to Love this restaurant. The crab Rangoon and entree's were so delicious. But when I went back a few days ago I was completely disappointed, the crab Rangoon had a taste of jalapeño in them which did not taste good. The classic egg drop soup that I so loved had corn in it. It almost had a Mexican type taste to it. The meat on my entree was dry and chewy. I didn't even want to take home leftovers because I knew it would not get eaten.
