Good, consistent food (love the crispy spring rolls and delicious Kung Pao chicken). They are incredibly quick and have never messed up my carry out order. I love that during the pandemic you don't need to enter the small restaurant. Pick up is located in their vestibule and if very efficient. read more

1. Excellent Chinese food 2. Flavorful 3. Fresh ingredients 4. Optimal use of cooking oil unlike other places Love this place, the best in our area for Chinese food. read more

Ordered delivery on Saturday evening watching the Nats game. We ordered the Crab Rangoon, Double Delight, Roast Pork Lo Mein and Combo Fried Rice. Delivery was super fast and driver was awesome! Even talked some Nats baseball. This was Chinese food elevated! It was another level. The fresh approach to the dishes with fresh, not frozen vegetables and no MSG or preservatives made a difference. Hands down better than the other Chinese places in the area. Pro tip, order the house made mustard sauce! Unbelievable! read more

I found this gem on the way back home from visiting vacation. We decided to try this place since our cousins, that live nearby, recommended this place. The first thing I come into was the really nice asian gentleman (Izzi) welcoming us and asking how are day was. It was our first time and he seemed to know it too, so he recommended us the General Tso's chicken, crispy chicken, and mongolian beef. After we ordered, he was able to keep a conversation as we were waiting. He was so funny and nice--Hunan Cafe definently found a star of a worker. He made our wait time fly by! On top of that, the food was really delicious. His recommendations were on point and I would come here again. Izzi, I hope you read this because you're a hell of a guy! Good luck at school! read more

Under new management for few years now. Things were pretty good until recently. Today, I order few dishes and two of them were from re-cooked from last night. You can tell.. vegetables are not fresh and noodles are like from microwave... how can you charge people and do this kind of crap with food??? Do they have any ethics??? read more

Tried this place out due to a flyer in our mailbox. We ordered our usual, shrimp fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, beef lo mein and cra rangoon. We also added schezuan chicken as well. The lo mein seemed a bit bland but everything else was pretty tasty. I rather enjoyed the medium sized shrimp in the rice. I expected the schezuan to be a bit more spicier, however I think it is just spicy enough to be enjoyed by younger family members. All in all, not bad at all. read more

We ordered delivery from here the food was awful. We called as soon as we tasted it to either get new food made or refund. They wanted us to bring the food back! Why would we bring back the food that we ordered for delivery! So now when and if we order they refuse to delivery to us! They made crappy food and it's our fault????? Very very poor customer service! read more

Hunan Cafe offers a quick and convenient menu for those nights when I'm too tired to cook. Their food is consistent in portion size and taste and they always give us extras of everything, in terms of condiments and fortune cookies. Delivery is dependable and always on time or early which is AWESOME compared to the other chonese food places around here. They are my new go-to chinese restaurant now. read more

Decent food and good service attitudes But over charged for a recent meal found out on credit card statements I hate all these restaurants don't want to give u a receipt causes these kinds issues. read more

By far the best Chinese place that I've been to in the Gainesville Haymarket area. After our last place change ownership I decided to give this place a try and I was just thrilled at the quality and presentation of the food. I ordered the general tso chicken with vegetable lo mein. Also tried the crab Rangoon and egg rolls. read more

Decided to give the new place in the neighborhood a try. I chose the Double Delight from the Chefs Specialties. It did not disappoint! The shrimp was large & the vegetables so fresh! It was very good and a dish that made an instant favorite! However, I'm anxious to try many of their other menu selections. The place inside looks nice & clean. The staff was friendly. I did get my meal to go though. read more

Hunan Cafe - Chinese Near Me - Gainesville, Virginia

I'm sorry, I'm baffled by all the good reviews. I wanted so badly for this to be good. I tried twice. They are very kind. And delivery was very fast. But the food is just awful. Like all the rest of the chinese in the area. read more

Went there 2 years ago and was unimpressed. Just gave it another try. Food was tasty, fresh and better than expected. Soup was too thick, but otherwise, acceptable Chinese served in COVID clean manner. Will go back. read more

Online order system is useless! Confirmation email received and over an hour later no food. Call to store and they had to check their "phone". Really? Then he said the issue must be on our side! How? We received your confirmation! read more

Can't ever say I had bad Chinese food, but this was not good, not even close. The food was very bland, absolutely no flavor. One of them I requested extra spicy, apparently they didn't know either how or what extra spicy meant, cause it was not spicy at all. Way too much oil, after few bites I was done. Went to Burger King and had a whopper, LOL! read more

My niece was visiting and accidentally ordered from this location. Instead of the owner being understanding and letting it go he started swearing at her. He said,"What the hell is wrong with you?" "Have you all been smoking all night?" You can't make this stuff up. He ended up hanging up on her while she apologized. As her Aunt, I was livid. I called back and spoke to him he immediately went into how he told her what location it was. I explained that she doesn't live here and did not know. I also said he was being ignorant, speaking to her like that, and very unprofessional. Unfortunately, the call became a shouting match because he would not listen and started using the F word at me. I am not proud of my response to him bringing me to his low level. This location obviously has very ignorant, abusive, and unprofessional staff. I have never in my life had such a volatile experience. Never order from this location!! The person I spoke with should be fired!!! read more

Hunan cafe's food is wonderful and the satisfaction cannot stop. Hot steamed rice with well cooked general tso chicken. My favorite meal from there also with fast/easy service. - Luis read more

We have called out for delivery several times. Each and every time we have tipped the driver. Tonight I get a call from them saying I hadn't tipped the driver 3x's in a row. Not true. I asked who put the note in the system. They couldn't answer. I asked who I was speaking to, they said they were a cashier. I asked for a manager or owner, they said I could just continue speaking to them. Once again, I asked for a manager or owner. I was told I would need to call back in 10 minutes because none were there. This place is shady for sure. read more

The food here is better than most of the places around but the one thing that I love about this place is the staff. The young employees (and I mean all of them) that greet you when you walk in are super friendly and helpful. Every time I can expect a great experience. read more

This place just opened VERY close to me. The first time I ordered I got an order of crab Rangoon. Except I got TWO empty fried wonton wrappers and the rest barely even had filling. Fine wanted to give them time to work out the kinks. I ordered online tonight. SPECIFICALLY requested no bean sprouts in my pad Thai. Guess what I got? Bean Sprouts. Probably won't be trying them again instead my business will go back to Taste of Asia which is almost as close. read more

Oh no... After such an encouraging first experience, reordered many of the same items, to a completely different result. To start, the beef on stick wasn't cooked through - rubbery and near raw. It was the first item to go into the trash. This time, the beef with black bean sauce was lacking the same fresh chunks of vegetables, was well under seasoned, and the red peppers had been replaced with green peppers and zucchini. The new dish, steamed chicken with vegetables had nice florets of broccoli and snow peas, but everything else suffered from the same small pieces as the black bean sauce this venture. Further, the request to not have celery in was completely ignored, and so it had to go into the bin with the beef on stick. Lastly, the chicken egg foo young this evening was less of a stylized omelet and more of small tidbits of vegetable and chicken in a barely-formed patty of scrambled eggs. While edible, it only resembled egg foo young until bitten or cut into. This was such a disappointing experience, and, in that a good bit of food (and therefore, money) was wasted, another visit is highly unlikely. read more

I've been picking up food from here once or twice a week and it's never disappointing. The employees at front desk are always friendly and helpful. I'd personally recommend 3 dishes... combination fried rice, Singapore rice noodle, and shrimp lo mein. They are my favorite food from here. Very delicious! read more

I've been a loyal customer for a long time but today is my last day ordering. I placed a delivery order online and get a call from the restaurant telling me that they charge an extra .30 that's right 30 cent for a side of hot oil that's FREE if you are doing a pick up order. Quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Customer service is awful and I will not be returning. Watch out they will try to rip you off if you are doing delivery. Do not try and rip your delivery customers off and charge for something that would be free if they came in the restaurant. read more

My family came in at 4:20 after my brother's graduation. We didn't get seated for 15 minutes despite the restaurant being empty. My dad had to actually ask if there was anyone was able to seat us before someone went over to the reception. The food was stale, it was almost empty and they didn't switch to dinner until about 5:17. I know this because that's when we were leaving. They still charged us for dinner instead of lunch even though we came in 40 minutes before lunch begins. We didn't want to argue but that whole meal felt like a rip-off. Go somewhere else. read more

This place is out, their lo mein and egg foo yung are delicious and delivered promptly. After 3 years of ordering from here I've not had one bad experience. read more

Wonderful little Chinese food place. Good chef, food is not the typical salty, super sweet entrees. Veggies are not overcooked. The restaurant looks new and clean. The free eggroll that came with the lunch special is not soggy and greasy. Fried rice is not grainy dry. I hope it does not change. I will say it again, I hope it does not change. Even the lady at the register is wonderful - how crazy is that? Note all my "nots"... the other places around unfortunately have started committing them after about 6 - 12 mos. We'll see - high hopes for Hunan Café in Gainesville, VA! read more

After a day out, near Gainesville, I was looking for a Chinese restaurant to help me quelch my hunger pains. This place is amazing! The staff are all so very nice, and the food was incredible! I ordered the Orange Chicken, with "healthy brown rice"... YUMMY! It is conveniently located next to a Baskin Robbins, (YAY!), although a little "out of the way" for where I was going... it was WELL worth the tiny drive away from my path. You'll love it! (I guess I should say that my only complaint would be that there is a TV in the restaurant - one of my pet peeves - but I'm sure most people love that.):) read more

Hunan Cafe is my new favorite Chinese restaurant in Gainesville. Food is fresh and delicious.

Love this place! The crispy beef is my go to dish every time I go. Fresh veggies and the beef is definitely crispy (if you order in). Hunan cafe has become my family's favorite Chinese restaurant in Gainesville. read more

Met expectations and on top of that made fresh with no GMO. I would definitely suggest it

This is the worst restaurant I have eaten at. The oil they used was rancid. I've been sick for 24 hours. I will never go back to this restaurant. read more

Best Chinese takeout in Gainesville! They advertise themselves with NO MSG and NO CANNED VEGETABLES. With no way to confirm that, I can tell you that the food is above average. I've been about 3 times and their fried rice, orange chicken and kung pao is pretty tasty. We even accidentally ordered delivery during a tornado/rain storm and the food still arrived on time. 4/5 not 5 because of cleanliness. Guy at front counter was coughing and spewing a bit too much for my liking and there were a few nats/fruit flies in the dining area. Will probably just do takeout next time. Recommended. read more

This place might not have the best taste prolly because no msg. I ordered crispy beef. Unlike other places I've been to, it was crispy and also perfect on spicy, oil, and taste. Lucky I have this place near my house. read more

Terrible customer service. We placed an order online and received a confirmation saying my order had been received within seconds. After waiting for an hour, I called them and was on the phone for awhile. I was told my order had not been received even though I had received a confirmation email. The gentleman on the phone said that the issue may be on my side. He was not apologetic whatsoever and was in a rush to get off the phone. Never ordering again. read more
