It arrived less than a quarter of an inch thick and I could not identify the cut. This was NOT a ribeye. Go for the view ....and maybe the social atmosphere. In my opinion, it's hands down the best winery in the region, and what makes it special goes well beyond the wine. The experience starts with a tasting, and Stone Hill does it right. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable, the tastings are top notch, and the wines speak for themselves. Their sparkling wines, Norton, and Chardonel are among my absolute favorites. The grounds are beautiful, with incredible photo opportunities around every corner. And if you're lucky enough to visit during an event, the live music is some of the best you'll find in Hermann. But one of my favorite experiences at Stone Hill takes you beneath the winery. The guided tours of the historic cellars are truly something special. There's so much history in those underground passages, and the guides are experts at bringing it all to life. It's an experience unlike anything else in the area. The nearby museum is another must-see and adds even more appreciation for the history behind this remarkable place. And then there's dinner. A visit to Stone Hill simply isn't complete without a meal at Vintage 1847 Restaurant. The atmosphere is wonderful, the food is phenomenal, and the steak is easily my favorite in Hermann. It's the perfect way to end a day of exploring. In fact, I've pretty much figured out my perfect Hermann itinerary. Start with a wine tasting, spend some time exploring the museum, take a guided tour through those incredible cellars, and finish the evening with an unforgettable dinner at Vintage 1847. Throw in some live music and a few great photos along the way, and it doesn't get much better than that. Hermann is full of wonderful experiences, and you could easily spend days discovering everything the town has to offer. But if there's one place I would tell absolutely everyone to visit, it's Stone Hill Winery. There are plenty of reasons to visit Hermann. Stone Hill is one of the biggest reasons to keep coming back.

You start with an little pre-video which is cool to see how the cave formed. Still blows my mind to think of how long it's taken to come together as it has. My girls were mildly freaked out at the idea at first, but settled into it once they got in there. It's really cool (literally) as it's 52 degrees year round, so bring a light jacket. Our tour guide was fun, sharing stories and a few laughs. We loved the part where she cuts all the lights and it truly is the darkest imaginable space. You can't see an inch in front of your face. We got the anytime tickets and they were $110 out the door. A bit steep, but it's worth it. There is also another cave called Cameron Cave that's a bit more hands-on with flashlights and crawling, which could be cool to explore. But rest assured, none of that with this one and it's very manageable and fun.

You can stop in for a tasting or sit down at a table for a glass or two. You can actually watch the winemakers make the wine as you sip your glass as the tanks are in the main room with the bar. It makes the whole process come together. They also have live music on some weekends and are available as a rental space. My mother is from Marceline, MO (another small town on Hwy 36). One take, after visiting my gma, we drove over to Macon to check out this winery. It was beautiful inside! The women who provided our wine tasting was very knowledgeable and could tell us about each wine as well as the history of the winery. I am a sweet wine person, so I enjoyed (and bought!) Duck Creek Red. My mom is an apple fan, so she bought a bottle of the Dry Apple wine. Can't wait to go back!
