So look, you have to consider this place in context. If you've never been to a winery or one in a…read moretraditional region (Napa, WA, OR, Europe) then you'll love it. However you're in the middle of Missouri where grapes don't generate like traditional regions, and palettes are different. So if you're familiar with wineries and good wine this will be quaint but not your place. This is more of an event space with wine as an afterthought as evidenced by the gaggle of sororities and moms funneling in all day. Frankly, I was appalled at the event I attended for my daughters sorority. Everyone bought a $25 bottle of sweet or semi-sweet wine (that's this wineries specialty), dropped in a straw, and suckled their sippy cups. Their sweet wines are like wine coolers - and what college student doesn't like those? That should give context to the quality of wine and positioning of this space). Their traditional varietals all have sweet or fruit forward notes - Cabs are more like Pinots but lacking the depth and notes of a true spicy, bold cab. Past this, parking is like a festival, down a dirt road about a quarter mile walk from the front door. While I wouldn't return, it's a great place for an event and provides something unique to the area. And obviously the Greek system utilizes as a more sophisticated approach to the bars in Columbia.

We got a wine flight with a variety of dry red, dry white, semi sweet wine. My favorite is dry red, but it seems like this place specializes in mainly semi sweet or sweet wine. I did enjoy the inspiration dry red.

Shoutout to Nathan!! If you're looking for a winemaking family who is passionate about the details - down to the genetics and ancestors of their grapes - then look no further! We would have loved a tour, but they were booked for the day (go early to make sure you get a spot!), but the tasting was a great second option! For $15 you try six wines from their very large list. They'll teach you about each one too. If you like bourbons or whiskey, I'd highly recommend their Cream Sherry - it won 12th best American wine at the Decanter Wold Wine Competition (The world's largest and most influential wine competition) in recent years (just enjoy slowly - it's 19%!!). Also, they make their wines very affordable! From $11-$40, everything is in reach! (They do have a $75 reserve Norton on the list as of May 2026.) You can enjoy the restaurant on site, shop alllll the wine accessories, relax on their patio above the hills of vines, play a game of corn hole, and pose for a few photos. They've been continuously farming (taking a break from wine only during prohibition) for 179 years! You won't regret a visit if you enjoy wine!

I visited Stone Hill Winery yesterday, and while the property is beautiful, the service was…read moreextremely disappointing. When we walked in, we weren't greeted at all. Several other couples who arrived around the same time were welcomed immediately, but we were left standing there without any acknowledgment. It was uncomfortable and made us feel overlooked in a way no quest should experience. I can't say why we were treated differently, but the contrast was hard to ignore. Because of the lack of attention, we ended up buying only a few bottles- even though we originally planned to purchase two full cases. We also chose not to buy anything from the stores afterward, which is unusual for us, but the experience at the beginning made it difficult to fully appreciate the visit. For a winery with such a strong reputation, I expected a much more welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. This was a one- star experience for us, and we won't be returning.
