However you're in the middle of Missouri where grapes don't generate like traditional regions, and palettes are different. So if you're familiar with wineries and good wine this will be quaint but not your place. This is more of an event space with wine as an afterthought as evidenced by the gaggle of sororities and moms funneling in all day. Frankly, I was appalled at the event I attended for my daughters sorority. Everyone bought a $25 bottle of sweet or semi-sweet wine (that's this wineries specialty), dropped in a straw, and suckled their sippy cups. Their sweet wines are like wine coolers - and what college student doesn't like those? That should give context to the quality of wine and positioning of this space). Their traditional varietals all have sweet or fruit forward notes - Cabs are more like Pinots but lacking the depth and notes of a true spicy, bold cab. Past this, parking is like a festival, down a dirt road about a quarter mile walk from the front door. While I wouldn't return, it's a great place for an event and provides something unique to the area. And obviously the Greek system utilizes as a more sophisticated approach to the bars in Columbia.

Several of the dishes came out cold. One asked to be reheated, others just verbally acknowledged the food was cold. I ordered a ribeye steak, medium rare and a backed potato. It arrived less than a quarter of an inch thick and I could not identify the cut. This was NOT a ribeye. Go for the view ....and maybe the social atmosphere. I chose all the sweeter wines and they were really good. The wine server was fantastic and was really engaging with our group. Parking is a little cramped but we were able to get a good spot. There is a little place at the top of the hill. You can get food. We were there on a Saturday. The place was very busy. They don't do tastings in this room so we headed down the hill to the tasting room. We had a big group but the server was great at keeping up with the options that we wanted. The wine i got try was really good. The bride to be in our party ended up getting a couple bottles. We also got to sit and enjoy a glass. All the staff was really nice and helpful. If we had had more time I would have loved to sit and enjoyed a few more glasses.

Heinrichshaus Winery is the perfect small winery. It's only a few miles from the highway in some…read morewoods. The proprietor is German; he built the building to resemble a German winery about 40 years ago. The tasting room is small and will fit only a few people. It's naturally cool inside. Heinrich guided us through our tasting like an expert. He told us all about the grapes and the history of the winery. He showed us a book he has that details the history of American wines, specifically the Norton grape. He did the tastings in real glasses. Due to MO liquor license laws, they can't sell wine by the glass. However, there are picnic tables outside. Look out for their two pet cats who eat near the door. The male is a Norwegian forest cat and he is very friendly. I can't say enough good things. I hope to be back again later this year.

I love this. I enjoy planning my own winery snacks. I was bummed when many wineries quit allowing food because they opened kitchens. So if I have to pay $30+ for food. I'm buying less wine. You can get a flight of wines for $5 or a glass of wine or a pint of beer for $5 each. You can even do a tour and tasting for $10. Plus, all the bottles are pretty much under $25. And they have quite a large variety of whites, reds, and roses too. Cindy, one of the owners, is so very friendly and helpful. She will go through an entire tasting with you with the highest level of patience, allowing you to taste and try anything you'd like to. Her brother-in-law also Is a gem, he himself Popsicles to all of the kids running around and let them ride on the tractor or explore into the garden. Would highly recommend if you are in the area!

This was actually our first winery on our wine-weekend. Tom is a wonderful host. He was able to tell us so much about each wine as we sampled all the wines. He really took his time to make sure we understood the process. He does a lot of blending grapes with other fruits to create unique wines. The fruits change the tartness and sweetness of a wine. My favorite wines were Kran Rose (I'm a big fan of cranberries), Rose of Traminette (spring, seasonal), Faithful Vintage, and Berry Blush. It happened to be my birthday when we were doing the tasting and Tom gave me a free bottle (afterall, we purchased three!). Also, Wenwood is known for the Pumpkin Wine.
