I really did not want to write this review, however my experience here and the cakes I bought were absolutely awful. The day before my boyfriends birthday, I needed a cake - he was in between lemon cake with lemon icing and chocolate cake with chocolate icing. So I called Hummingbird Bakery because I have heard about and drove past there place several times. I spoke with the owner and told her what I was looking for. She said she had made a lemon cake and a chocolate cake that morning, and neither had icing on them yet. I told her I would take both of them since my boyfriend was in between. I simply asked her to put a LAYER of lemon icing on the lemon cake and chocolate icing on the chocolate cake, then to put ON THE CAKE two different sayings. She said okay, I paid over the phone, and said I'd be in to pick them up by 2:45pm. Also, I would like to mention, she was not very friendly during the conversation as is. When I got there and saw the cakes, I was not happy by the appearance of them. The first employee I talked to was rude when I asked her about why there was so much icing, why was the decoration this way, and why the sayings were on the cake board VS cake itself. She said 9/10 times they do not write on the cake and they write on the board instead. I told her how I called this morning to order these cakes and what I asked for, she then walked away rudely to grab the owner whom I talked to over the phone. The owner was not kind either about the situation and told me she didn't remember me asking for a layer or the saying to be written on the cake -- she even told me I did not say that?!?! After going back and forth, her not even offering to fix it or give me a refund, I left with the cakes in hopes they would taste better than they looked. The next day, when we tried both cakes -- everyone who tried them agreed we could make boxed cakes better than these. Overall, I will not be coming back here as well as other family & friends who have given business to Hummingbird Bakery. The customer service and cakes made here are both horrible. read more

I've had a craving for iced sugar cookies for a while. My sister ordered my 25th birthday cake from here and told me they also made cookies. Popped in today on my way back home from eating breakfast, and got two packs of sugar cookies plus a basic vanilla cupcake. My goodness was the cupcake good!! So moist and the icing was just the right amount of sweet! I totally forgot about the cookies, but my son had them and gobbled them up. Customer service was great. The lady working the counter was very kind. My sister says that when she ordered my cake, the lady who took the order offered helpful suggestions about flavor and design. Delicious!!! In late March, I was in the market for a carrot cake for my husbands birthday and I stumbled across this bakery, thanks to Yelp! Plus, I love shopping at local shops and restaurants if possible. The cake request was only a few days before the party, oops...but the manager was extremely friendly and accommodating. I am so grateful that they were able to squeeze in my "basic" carrot cake order in between the countless orders already piling up. During pickup, the bakery smelt amazing and the employees were friendly. As the woman working the front counter boxed my cake (done in front of you post inspection), I was able to examine all of the other cakes that were scheduled for pick up that day. Might I just say, wow!! Amazing job ladies and gentlemen! Okay, back to my cake and fast forward to eating the cake. Once we sang happy birthday, we began serving the cake and out of 23 people, there was only one consistent complaint. The cake itself had no complaints but it was the richness of the frosting. Although the frosting was delicious, there was just a little too much on top and in between the layers. Other than that minor complaint, everyone absolutely loved the cake. To be honest, I never eat much frosting so I pick around it either way, and the cake was moist and perfect! Really, no complaints in our overall experience with the bakery or the cake. We unfortunately spent to much time drooling over the cake that we didn't get a picture, but! I've had two cakes done there now and a set of a dozen cupcakes. Not only did each order turn out beautiful, but they tasted amazing too! Anytime I get something from Hummingbird, people rant and rave about how good it tastes. I just had a cake and cupcakes made for my baby's gender reveal. I took in a picture that I wanted it to look like and felt confident that it would mostly look like what I wanted. I was blown away when I saw the cake, as it was identical to what I had asked for! I didn't try the icing bc I'm not an icing person. Anyway we placed the order for a shopkins cake (luckily they had made the same design for another customer) so we basically just chose the color , size, & flavor. Easy. We chose chocolate with strawberry filling. Icing was buttercream. (Fondant extra). Cake big enough for 35 people. $80. Can't beat that!! Cake was good, on the sweet side. A few people said it wasn't moist enough but I didn't have a problem with it at all. They only put a thin layer of strawberry filling though. But the cake was beautiful and good enough for me and my daughter! Customer service was awesome. I picked up my daughter's birthday cake this morning and i would say it was a okay cake, and i am disappointed. My daughter loves baby shark and i selected a nemo cake from their catalog, on which nemo was made in 3D with fondant. I asked them to make baby shark and also a turtle instead of nemo and octopus similar to the cake they had in their catalog. The baker cut the baby shark picture and stuck it on the fondant, and turtle was no where to be found. The whole point was for me to get this cake was to get the baby shark character that my daughter loves. Especially, she loves making characters out of play dough, i thought she would have enjoyed the actual baby shark. I paid $75 for 6 inch cake upfront, i was paying high price since they will be making all these characters. I wouldn't go their again. read more
