We are so fortunate this store is right down the street from us! Locally owned and operated. Great selection of food and treats and litter and toys. It has a dog wash station. They give discounts to neighbors and have a program where you buy ten get one free. I love them so and will never go anywhere else for my cat. (We get his food, litter and toys there on the regular and also got his tower, bed and harness there!) read more

What a wonderful store. So many quality options and friendly staff. Lizzie's knowledge was invaluable when it came to setting up for our new fur baby. She walked me through the various types of food, brands, potential allergens and age transitions. Definitely recommend supporting this local business. read more

Very Friendly and Pet Friendly staff. DONUTS FOR PEOPLE on the weekend! And coffee most of the time. They also sell dog cookies made by a local care group for autistic and other diagnosis people! Their products are reliable. We've had great success with the dog food, in particular. The cat food samples helped my "Fairy God Cat" discover a new palette and look a little less Buddha like! They also offer some kind of point system for regulars with a redeemable discount applied to other purchases. The original owner, Marnie, seemed very nice and kind the first time I met her. So, I'm not surprised that it's such a a pleasant atmosphere. read more

We randomly went in here while staying in the nearby area. Our dogs were on vacation too so Ofcourse they needed treats! While selecting their goodies the staff was so helpful. They recommended several options but our dogs favorite was the polka dog chicken jerky. Unfortunately we won't be regulars here since we live in nevada but we will definitely be back when we are in the area! read more

Humboldt Pet Supply - Polka dog chicken jerky! - Pet Stores Near Me - Arcata, California

Great collection of pet paraphernalia and very helpful staff. My dog loves to go there and so do I

I spent $25 plus tax on a rubber dog toy for my dogs one year birthday on Oct. 23. After only 5 minutes, perhaps less, my dog was able to begin pulling chunks of rubber from the toy, causing me to have to be the bad-guy and TAKE AWAY his brand new birthday toy. 8 days later, I took said toy into the store and asked of 2 different employees if I could exchange it for something more durable. The male told me it needed to be brought back BEFORE 15 days had passed. I reminded him that I had bought it only 8 days prior. Both employees then agreed that the store policy states you need to be able to re-sell the item. I asked them both why they would want to sell garbage to ANOTHER person?! I've spent a good deal of money in this store, but believe me when I tell you that I won't be making that same mistake EVER again. read more

Great store. They have everything and the staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. I've been shopping here for about 4 years. No complaints. read more

--High quality food, toys and treats. Customer loyalty program and other discounts. --Their own local raw food last i heard! To expensive for me but glad it is happening and compared to other raw i bet its a good deal. --Web site is excellent and email receipts are convenient. --Don't get there just before closing unless you are gonna be sure to be out the door by 6:01 or better yet a minute sooner. Check return policies carefully as they are a bit rough when it comes to customer service. Granted much customer service in US has been over the top, customers demanding and pay low, though starting to correct a decade or so ago; covid sped that up and also made small business ownership more stressful and perilous. That said, they have many times been impatient and not take responsibility for confusion that they could lessen and/or caused their own signs/communication/policies as well as just realize for many is part of pet care in general these days and treat customers a tad condescendingly..but they are very knowledgeable and conscientious at their core. Bought a collar and a tag there and person didn't notice tag wasn't going to fit the collar nor did i and after the tag was engraved I had to resort to twist ties to keep it on. As someone else noted they didn't mention appointments needed for bath but both instances just mean they are going to go the extra step so if you are used to that or foggy brained like i am then be alert....often free coffee there! --Dog toys have been absurd for so long...they destruct often in minutes for the price of a full meal for a human dining out. I wish all store owners would stop pandering to that but then many customers likely would still come in asking for something cute that won't last. --Nor Cal Pet Supply has been a kinder gentler store with a tad better prices (perhaps due to location in McKinleyville) and they help with adoptions but further from me and staff not always so knowledgeable whereas HPS just have to press a bit and someone there will have lots of knowledge. read more

Good variety of pet supplies, foods, treats. The pet wash station, with a stainless steel tub at perfect height for comfortably washing your dog, has a ramp for your dog to easily walk up into it. They have everything your need, and the clerks at front counter are really nice and helpful. They only improvement I could wish for is more parking. read more

Awesome selection of healthy treats and food for dogs and cats. Very friendly staff too!

Wow, the staff here are so nice and helpful! I went in to pick up a few different kinds of wet cat food for my cat to try, when I told the woman working that my cat only eats the gravy she told me all about their selection which helped me pick which ones would suit my cat best. She was super knowledgeable not only about what products they carried but about the sources of their products as well. I highly recommend shopping here, they're definitely a local business worth supporting. Their prices are reasonable and they have a nice selection, plus a rewards program with good discounts. read more

This rating is for the pet spa. I was told there were walk ins so I show up and everyone has made appointments, so a waste of time, unless you make an appointment. When I was in a few week before and asked about the pet spa I wish they had told me to make an appointment or what days/times we're actually good for walk ins. Walk ins are only convenient if you can walk in and use the space without waiting for 3 1/2 hrs. read more

Wonderful self service dog wash station! Lots of high end pet supplies. We were very impressed and it was great to find a good spot to wash our dog after the beach while visiting the coast on vacation. I am keeping this spot bookmarked for the future. We will be back! read more

The team at HPS helped educate me on so many levels of owning a Labrador. My 4-legged child no longer itches and loves his new food. Prices are great to boot. I'm so thrilled we have a local pet store here in Humboldt that genuinely cares about our furry kids. read more

Highly recommend this business and am so so grateful for the knowledgable and kind staff members. I am a new puppy parent and was blown away by how helpful and thorough Lizzie was in her recommendations. She not only offered puppy tips and popular products, but provided my husband and I with wonderful advice and detailed explanations about each product she was recommending. Rather than feel like I was being sold anything, I felt like I was being helped by a friend and that the health and happiness of our new puppy was top priority. Don't shop anywhere else -- support Humboldt Pet Supply! **Pro Tip: If you've rescued your dog, bring your paperwork and you may get a one time generous discount! read more

I walk in and the first thing I see is two teensy kittens for adoption. Less than ten seconds later I'm greeted by the woman running the shop. Employee? Owner? Not sure. She's followed by a very sweet black and white cat. She doesn't have the Guinea pig shampoo I need, but she has the pellets and hay that I'm going to need in the near future. It will be nice to not have to drive to Eureka for the stuff. She offered to order some for me, but I need it today cause my Guinea pig stinks. She's still very helpful, and has absolutely gained a loyal customer even though I don't buy anything from her today. I plan to go back next week for a big bag of Timothy hay. read more

We were camping nearby, first time with our puppy. We realized one of those raised dog beds would have been ideal, as there were lots of foxtails in the area we were camping, and we only had beds and blankets that sat on the ground had material to which foxtails and dried grass easily stuck. Also some cbd treats might be good to calm down our city pup who wasn't used to wilderness noises in the middle of the night. So I yelp'd the closest pet store with good ratings. Humboldt Pet Supply appeared to be in the middle of a residential neighborhood, so my expectations were low. But boy was I wrong! It was a large, spacious, well-organized store. The staff was friendly and helpful. We didn't find the raised dog bed we were looking for, but their selection of treats, toys, and dog clothing surpassed the typical selection at the pet store we frequent in San Francisco, so we bought a lot of things we didn't come in looking for :-) The staff encouraged us to try on the dog sweater to make sure it fit, which was super nice. read more

This place is awesome! My dogs can't wait to come here. And the cats that live here are super cool and actually get along great with my dogs. read more

The staff at Humboldt Pet is friendly and personal. They are always immediately available to listen and solve any problems I have. They know their products well and are patient with coming up with new solutions to old problems. In particular, I have a 20 year old cat and, not long ago, had a 20 year old dog as well. Feeding such aged animals takes a lot of patience, and I am grateful to have friends at Humboldt Pet who take a personal interest. read more

I love Humboldt Pet Supply! I recently came in looking for a super sized water dish for my two giant (and thirsty!) pups, they didn't have quite what I was looking for so they ordered me one, right then and there! A couple days later I picked it up for cheaper than I could have gotten it anywhere else! HPS is definitely my favorite local pet store. They're super friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to go the extra mile for their customers! read more

A great, locally owned and operated pet supply store. Selection is quite good and the products are very high quality -- none of the typical junk you find in the pet aisle at Wal-Mart. Friendly staff, very knowledgable about all kinds of critters. If I lived closer, this is the only place I'd go for my fur-family food and toys. As is, I make a point to stop every time I pass through town. read more

I've been going to Humboldt Pet Supply since they opened and I've always been greeted with excellent service. They have a wonderful selection of food, for both cats and dogs. One aspect of Humboldt Pet Supply that I really like is that they keep your dog/cat food choices on file so they can give you rewards after buying a set amount. In addition to all this, they are locally owned and donate to many non-profit organizations in our area. Their commitment to Humboldt County makes a difference, so shop there and support your community too! read more

I have come into this store on a few occasions, picked up my things, paid and left without any problem. However, special ordering items is such a nightmare and their complete lack of customer service is irritating. I wanted a specific dog food for my pup that they used to carry on their shelves a couple months ago but no longer do. An employee advised that I could special order the item and have it shipped to the store. I have previous experience working at a pet store and this is quite common practice. I order my frozen food, they say they will call me with the price and I can pay once it arrives. Two weeks pass. Like I said, I used to work at a pet store so I am very familiar with the vendors and that some items take longer than others. I show up at the store, they look up my order, apologize for the wait and say it will arrive next week. Another two weeks pass by, so for those keeping track it's been a month. I call asking where my dog's food is. They can't find my name in their shipment list so the woman on the phone speaks to her manager. She gets back to me and says the manager "forgot" to call me. The frozen food I ordered can no longer be received by any of their vendors. Obviously I was upset and all the woman on the phone could do was apologize. Granted I didn't waste any money but my time was definitely wasted and now gives me a bad opinion on this store and their customer service. If I didn't call would they have ever bothered to remember that my dog was still waiting for this specific food that meets his dietary needs. read more

The staff here are the most helpful people I have ever encountered in a pet store. They are very knowledgeable on every product they carry and if they don't have what you are looking for they will have no problem ordering it for you. I couldn't thank these ladies enough for the guidance they have given me on my dog and all his food allergies and anxiety issues. read more

Love this place. The workers are friendly, the shop is cute, and I always get to see a couple other animals when I go in!

Since we moved to the north coast we pretty much just bought our dog and cat food from wherever it was convenient. That is, until I walked into Humboldt Pet Supply in Arcata,CA. Such knowledgeable and friendly staff are rarely found under the same roof as great prices. From basic pet supplies to unique high end fancy pet accoutrements this place has it all. These owners obviously care about what they are doing and i am their newest loyal customer. read more

HPS is beyond a pet store. It is a beautiful space to shop in, with a friendly and knowledgeable staff, and products that are high quality, well priced and different than what you find in the box stores. No cheap ingredients in the food or pet supplies, adorable toys, cool leashes and collars, dog beds that will last forever, treats that are good for your pet. I love this store and the people who run it are great! read more
