Friendly staff. Very helpful owner. I bought a cage and supplies to help save the family and friends of "Marty Mouse" who took refuge in my apartment. When Marty Mouse wouldn't enter the have a hart humane mouse trap and taught his friends how to let him out of a larger capacity have a hart mouse trap, I gave up and returned their emergency relocation home. The shop workers were very obliging. I highly recommend this pet store also. read more

My son has been begging for a bearded dragon for a long time and we recently found a rare painted agama here, like a miniature version of a beardie. ALL staff were so polite, friendly and accommodating. Everyone was super caring and extremely knowledgeable and helped with the set up of everything the lizard needed. I was extremely impressed with the staff's extensive knowledge of how to care for these little guys and the joy they exuded in helping out a customer. I actually went to all the pet stores in the local area to price things out, and this place had the best prices too. Amazing experience and highly recommend this store for all your pet needs! I can only comment on the aquarium portion of the store. I went with the kids to buy some fish to add to our tank. They had a few tanks that were quarantined but I didn't think much of it at the time. We brought the new fish home to our tank and now all of our fish have white spot disease and are dying from parasites. I would not recommend buying fish from the store. We had a beautiful dojo loach that was over 4 years old and never had any problems and within a week of adding the new fish everything is a dying. Not cool! read more

I mostly come here because it's the only place that has crickets and also it's close to my banks, CVS and Safeway. I'm not understanding the negative reviews though. I've always loved this place. I just had a horrible experience with them. At 5:58pm I called them and told them I was at the plaza and would be there shortly and really needed to buy cat litter. The person who answered the phone told me he was going to set aside the litter I needed. I told him the brand and the type I wanted, he asked questions and confirmed, then said I'll see you soon. I got there at 6:01 and the door was locked. Two people were inside and I told them I was the one who called, they ignored me completely even though they could see me. Why would anyone lead a costumer on like that? I got mad because he talked to me on the phone like he was going to wait for me. And honestly, it's not thar hard to wait for a literal minute for a customer that shops there every single week. I'm not shopping there ever again! Going to give my money to Amazon because they don't treat me like a fool. read more

The people working were the most helpful! They measured our dog for a fitting and let him try on anything we wanted. They were kind and gentle with him and made all of very comfortable! We bought him a warm rain coat for going fishing! read more

Just bought a betta from there. Had awful amonia poising and fin rot and worse water condions ive seen. His water smelled like pure cholorine.. Here are the peramiters from the cup he was in Ph over 8.8 Ammonia was 4.0ppm Nitrite was 0 Nitrate was 5.0 The fish also looked pretty hungry and most fish dont tank food once being put in a new tank but he took quite a bit making me think he hasn't eaten for days. Also the temp setting in the store for bettas is far below what they actually need. Dont but bettas here. Or really don't buy anything living from here. read more

The best thing I like about Arcata pet is the convenient location next to Safeway in the shopping center. They don't have a large selection of dog food, and shampoo for cats and dogs, but the staff is always very helpful. Easy to get in and out fast, no waiting here. read more

Very small selection. Double the cost of anywhere else. When I went in to purchase an ounce of live worms, the worker brought out a bag that was 1/2 dirty worm water, with a small amount of worms. When I mentioned that it was not an ounce, he took me to a scale and it weighed exactly one ounce, IN THE BAG that was 1/2 water. 10 to 11 grams worms and the rest water, plastic bag and rubber band. What an amazing store! The store is so cool and you can really see how they respect their animals. I love walking around and seeing how expansive the inventory is. They really have just about everything you could want for your pet! I have to say that I love hanging out in the fish room. In most places, you see how unhappy the fish is but the fish here look so genuinely happy. And I've heard complaints about the tank size for the bettas but they are all connected to a larger circulated tank and separated for their own well being as they are territorial! How interesting! I learn something new every time I shop here. You can really tell that the staff are educated (and very friendly!) I will always shop here for my pet needs. read more

They start out with one star because I can't go lower than that. They get one more star because they had Guinea pig shampoo, which I desperately needed and didn't want to drive to Eureka for. They don't get a third, fourth or fifth star because they suck. First, I stopped to see what reptiles they had. They have three different-sized bearded dragons housed together. The bigger of the three is almost big enough to attempt eating the smaller of the three. Then I looked around for critter harnesses. They only had a ferret one, the kind that is basically just a rope. I don't like those, and don't want to put one on my Guinea pig. The kid behind the counter asked if I was finding everything okay, I asked about the little harnesses. He directed me toward the ferret one. I said I've used one, I don't like them. He told me "not this one, it's an adjustable rope" and I got a little peeved. Told him that yes, in fact, that was the type I'd used and I did not like it. Then I bought the shampoo and left, and I'm not going back. I found a nice little pet supply store on G that I just love. read more

Purchased the littleGifts Dog keychain via Online store They shipped the item out quick but they sent the wrong item. It was nothing like the photo on the website. They said it's the current version of the product, but was able to located one that matched the photo online and said they would send it to me after returning the one I received from them. Which I paid to return with tracking. I then got a request that I needed to pay an additional shipping cost to get the item i paid for and wanted in the first place. I called them and told them my situation and waived my shipping. This was way more work and money than I wanted to spend. Hopefully I get the correct product this time. [update] Got the replacement, it is the correct style but has a defect, face looks like it was melted/smushed/dropped. Could have warned me over the phone when they located the right one. Okay, I had 5 huge fish tanks... how could I not come here! A great selection of HEALTHY fish. Great selection of aquatic plants and a staff that knew their stuff. Highly recommended. You can even bring in a water sample and they'll check it for you and let you know if that'll work for your fish. read more

The only reason I gave it a two was for the first clerk we talked to. He was kind helpful and informative. The man who checked us out barely said two words and never made eye contact like we were beneath him. Very very disappointed. I will never come back. Ok to clarify I did return because I didn't want to drive to Eureka to by a leash. However, AGAIN the cashier didn't make eye contact nor even try to establish some sense of customer service. Great service from the fish section and awesome service over the phone after I got home and needed help setting up my tank! However, I find it disturbing that the betta fish in the store are confined in such tiny tanks. Betta fish need at very minimum a 2.5 gallon tank to be healthy and happy...look it up. Animal cruelty otherwise. And fish are smarter than you think. Check out Reddit FishCognition Edit: Also just found out you guys were the ones who sold my rooommate a freaking 0.5 gallon bowl for her betta and told her it was fine. That fish was absolutely miserable until we transferred her to a bigger tank. Didn't even swim around or move. Look it up, '0.5 gallon fish bowl' on Chewy, it's the bubble one, one of the first ones that come up. Literally every single review is talking about how horrible and cruel it is. Also fish should never be in a round bowl, it disorients them, you should know this. Also a bowl that small cannot even accommodate a filter or a heater, which bettas need--they are tropical fish. Sorry but now knowing this I cannot give more than one star. read more

Very cool little spot. There are lots of options here with accessories and food. They have a few pets here, which my kids loved--birds, lizards, a few beta. I ordered a fairly rare product from the internet site and it was $6 cheaper than anywhere else even with shipping ($29). The package arrived fast, the only problem I had was that the tracking system said it was delivered at 9:30 am and it wasn't delivered until sometime in the afternoon. That was only a problem because the old leash broke and I needed it fast so I was overly interested in the tracking info. :) read more
