Love Love these doctors, PA, and staff are awesome, knowledgeable, and friendly BUT been in waiting room as a "walk in" and already have had payment taken and all my info updated... currently have been 3 hours in weight room. My suggestion is to have some displayed representation for walk in appointment wait duration, so this situation doesn't duplicate itself for somebody older or more worse off. I'm fed up and would give them zero stars if I could. Ever since Village Medical took over, it's been nothing but downhill. My favorite doctors and nurses are gone, which says a lot. Trying to make an appointment was a nightmare. First, I got shuffled off to some call center, then sent back to the McKay location, where I waited on hold forever before someone finally picked up. And when they did, there was no friendly greeting, just a brisk "Village Medical? Birthdate? Name?" It felt really cold and unprofessional. When I mentioned my hernia issue, they just told me they're booked till mid-April. That's it for me. I'm on the hunt for a new family doctor. They aren't my favorite... i go there because im lazy. It's near my job, i went there as a kid and my dad still goes there. So i just get my annual checks ups and that's it. If you get your STD testing make sure you get the full panel if i remember correctly in 2020 Dr.Burch told me he didn't test for herpes cause "why freak ppl out since everyone has herpes" and the more recent times ( may/July 2023) i have been the other doctors have just told to lose weight for the things i was expressing concern about seems like the go to solution for them which doesn't make me feel like they are listening to me. Went in Dr. took 30-40 minutes to finally see me. The dr didn't tell me what I could have. Just told me what she was going to prescribe me and send me off my way. Told me they would send me my prescription to my pharmacy and I get there and theres nothing in my name. Waste of time and money. Tried reaching out to see if they could send it to another pharmacy or to send it again. Been trying to reach them for 2 days and no one answers the phone. If I could give this place a 0, I would. I was the last patient that the doctor was seeing that day and right off the bat, I knew I didn't want to come back here again. I could barely understand what the nurse was telling me and asking me as we were called into the room because of how fast she was talking. I realize now that she probably just wanted to go home asap since I was the last patient of the day... Things got WORSE when the doctor came in. I specifically told him that I was here for a physical and also mentioned that I felt stressed and haven't been sleeping well when he asked how I am health-wise. Big mistake. He took it the wrong way as if I was asking him to prescribe pills for me and completely took things out of context. He kept interrupting me and made me feel like what was going on in my life was not that much to handle. I found myself trying to convince him that I was extremely stressed as a full time university student, but he kept trying to force another answer out of me as to why I was stressed. Like I said, I came here for a physical and a lab test, but came out feeling like I was undermined and instead, I got a "pep talk" on how I should go to counseling to work out my feelings. Overall, the doctor was very unprofessional and had no right to tell me his opinion on the outlook of MY life. If I wanted that, I would have seen a therapist. If I could leave 0 stars I would! This place is AWFUL! No sense of urgency at all! Our appt was at 9:40am, they ask us to get here at 9:20am, we showed up at 9:15, took us back at 10:00 and now it's 11:15 and we STILL have yet to be seen. All for 2 physicals! Absolutely ridiculous! All these people working here and it takes this long?! We will never be back! If we were paying for this we would've already left but it's asked for by our insurance! after checking in at 11:58 AM for my 12:20 PM appointment I then proceeded to wait an hour while people were going in and out who arrived after me for their own appointments. After I asked the front desk what was taking so long they informed me that they had a new system and it had not checked me in. Used to get a prescription for 6 months....2 co-pays a year. Now, without advising me, prescriptions are only for 3 months....really. Nice way to double your co-pay intake. I've been seeing David for over 25 years and it is next to impossible to get an appointment with him within a 2 day time period anymore. I saw him just a month ago and yesterday found out I had to get an approval form to get a tooth pulled from my dentist. I thought it would be something simple as sending it in. But noooooo! it requires yet another appointment. Nothing is for free. They just saw me a month ago! They literally have all my recent vitals and NOTHING HAS CHANGED. This place deserves a zero star if there is one such rating. No accountability and zero communication. 99% of my call was routed to a voice recording machine because the "User" is unavailable, left many messages and they do not call back. After leaving a final message that I will have bad reviews they called me back. I did not have my medicine for more than 1.5 months. Called my insurance company and they told me the doctor office needs to send in pre-authorization form. Called the doctor office and they told me that it was approved and I need a refill, which was incorrected. I explained to them what is needed and the front desk told me she will request the pre-authorization department to send the form to the insurance company. I called them back to ask if they sent the forms and the front desk told me the pre-authorization department closes early at 11:30 am on Friday. read more

I brought my daughter (11) there for a well exam because I was tired of her regular doctor never having an appt for her until two three days after I call them with a fever. We saw Chad Burke, which is also who I see. He spend more time with us than any other doctor I have ever been to. He was pleasant and very patient with her. She was a bit nervous seeing a new doctor. I disregarded the previous poor reviews. I figured all doctors offices have complaints and this one would work well enough for what I needed. Boy was I wrong. I needed a referral to my endocrinologist. They wouldn't provide it without seeing me which I completely understand. I came in for the appointment and waited. Again, no big deal, I read previous reviews and expected a wait. I met with the doctor and explained I came in for a referral to my endocrinologist and while I was there I asked questions about a couple other things. The Dr said I needed to see a specialist for this as well and would submit referrals for that too. They said the referrals could take up to a week. I received a call about the the new referral the next day. I said ok great but did you submit the referral for my endocrinologist? They said no but give it a week. I waited. No referral still. So I called back and the referral department said the Dr hadn't submitted one. I called the nurses station ( who never answer and never call back) and leave a detailed message about what I need. I called the referral department the next day and they say still no referral and in order to get one I would need to come back in and see the doctor again. By this time I'm furious. Again I call the nurses station and leave a detailed message. Call the referral department the next day again and they said they be submitting the referral. Here we are weeks later and still no referral. Soo not worth the hassle. read more

The worst experience. It deserves less than 0. I thought I was in the Twilight Zone! The doctor came in the room and took his mask off, he didn't wash his hands, he scratched his nose, played with his hair, scratched his back and then proceeded to examine my niece with no gloves and without washing his hands! I requested that he put his mask back on but I didn't know that I would have to ask a doctor to wash his hands!! He then proceeded to ask my niece if she was "mixed"!!! He went on to talk about African Americans need to know our genealogy. There was a reference to slave ships and I think I most have lost consciousness at that point. I asked him, this white doctor, how was this topic medically relevant. If he was looking for a problem that was hereditary or based on genetics, that's one thing but this subject that came around to his dialogue that included Morgan Freeman's genealogy results was totally irrelevant, unnecessary and out of line. I am very disheartened by my most recent experience with what used to be a well trusted and respected medical facility. I came in Friday as a walk in patient and was seen by PA Jensen. He listened to me then sent me on my way with Antibiotics, Steroids, and a Daily Zyrtec. By Monday morning I was not feeling any better and the cough had gotten worse. I called and spoke with the staff they advised me that he had 48 hrs to get back with me and to try an over the counter cough medicine. Tuesday morning I called again after not hearing back and was told that I will hear something by the end of the day and that the message was flagged as urgent, I received no such response. On Wednesday morning I was assured that he would be in and that I will have an update by the end of business and that it was flagged again as urgent. I phoned again Wednesday late afternoon and was told that he had already left for the day. I am absolutely amazed that they feel no shame in treating patients this way. I have received no updates from anyone in that office. I will only be going to the Humble Family Practice in Atascocita from now on they at least show compassion and willingness to help their patients. read more

Eeep. Not a good experience. I wanted to like them. I should have researched for a specific GYN, but when I was searching, Dr. McCain had specific ads that showed her to do well-woman exams. I thought, it's routine, so it should be pretty basic. When I got to my appt, there was confusion because the staff hadn't confirmed the appt, even though I was "confirmed" when I set it up online. I didn't worry about it because they said someone else could help me, which again, was fine. But...they took 1.5 hours to see me. I sat there in the waiting room and watched scores of people come in and out, and not having a clue why i wasn't called, until I finally asked. After a few moments, I was finally called back. The staff that took me in and did the preliminary intake stuff were nice and friendly. I don't have any issue with them at all. The PAP itself was routine; Laura is friendly (the Nurse Practitioner), but after, I never heard anything like "Looks good" or "seems great overall" or "hmm, let's talk about this that I see here...". Zero feedback, leaving me to think "am I ok?". THEN: - it took a week to get pap results, when i was told I needed an RX for a routine finding. They called the RX in to the wrong place, twice, even after I clarified and they repeated it back to me. Thank goodness for the staff at pharmacy for straightening that out for me. - I had no interaction with the MD at all...not Dr. McCain, or not the DO that is there also. I asked about some pain in my hands, and no response on how to help that. I asked about osteoarthritis and was told to take calcium. The overall feel of it was honestly like a "free clinic" type of feeling. I felt that the other clients were there because that might be the only option that they could afford or that Medicare/Medicaid might cover. (not a reflection on the patients, but a reflection on the overall care provided.) The clinic is 30 years old, and it seemed well-established. However, I don't feel confident at all in their care as I experienced it. It's a shame because I'm sure that the doctors who've run it for 30 years would be saddened at how it's perceived by new patients like me. Pro's: -you can get in quickly (i scheduled it online a few days before) -they have 30 years under their belt. Con's: -see all the above. Be sure to ask questions about anything/everything so that you won't go home and wonder if you're going to live. :-) read more

I've seen Dr. McCain for years. She's been a fantastic clinician. Never waited long for an appointment AND it's always easy to get an appointment! You don't have to wait weeks just to get in (which is great when your schedule is always changing). The exam rooms are really clean. Dr. McCain doesn't chart while you are in the room, she actually looks at you while you talk and listens to your problems. I appreciate that she lets me get my blood drawn at MHH's lab so that it doesn't cost any money to me instead of getting it done in the clinic. She knows her shit and how to treat it. David, the PA, is very skilled at doing steroid injections for joints. I occasionally get severe joint pain / bursitis. I had horrific pain for 3 weeks in my shoulder before I saw him. He did a perfect injection, some soreness later but then... relief. His steroid / long acting numbing medication combo is perfect. This is not a doc-in-a-box. This is a legit clinic. Take the 3 minutes to make an appointment and you will be seen on time. Doing a walk-in always has the risk of waiting. Expecting not to wait as a walk in? You gotta be kidding me. This is not a McDonald's. And ask to see Dr. McCain! She's the best! She knows how to treat her patients! read more

I had similar experience with Thalia, Kinsey, and Veronica below. I had an appointment but it took them an hour to call me in for weight and blood pressure. Then another half an hour wait for the doctor to see me. My conversation with the doctor took less than 5 minutes. Then they told me I had abnormality in my test result from LAST YEAR. So I asked for a follow-up on it. Blood was drawn, specimen was swabbed. I was told to call and check for the result in a week. For the last 3 days I've made several calls each day. Each time, without fail, I got directed to a machine that said the person is not available. I've tried different times of the day, too: early morning, late morning, around lunch time, afternoon, late afternoon, and close to closing time. I've left messages and my number asking to be called back because of my growing concern regarding my issue. Nothing. NOT A DAMN THING. At this point, I firmly believe it's not even a person at the end of of that phone line. It's no doubt a robot set up to mislead people about the fact that they even have an option for test result. I thought I better start dealing with real people. I chose the option to "make an appointment" so I could at least talk to someone. I explained my situation and asked for help. All I got was to be directed to the same freaking robot I've had to deal with all week! I am fully capable of calling that robot to waste my time on my own. Thank you very much!!! My husband made a switch to Dr Carpenter thinking he would do better having a male physician seeing to his medical needs. It has been less than a year, but there seem to be a few constants in the behavior of both Dr Carpenter and the medical support staff on whom he depends. Hubs takes 3 maintenance medications, 2 of which are considered 'controlled substances' even though they are not narcotics. FYI - testosterone. When Hubs retired he made the switch to the mail-in pharmacy through our insurance because of the cost difference and the convenience. The problem is even though we are doing everything we are supposed to Hubs just cannot seem to get his prescriptions filled or refilled without drama, hours on end of telephone conversations and extra visits to the doctor office. Every time we call the office to seek help the person on the phone wastes no time at all in telling us Ms Wolf (real name) handles ALL the prescriptions for Dr Carpenter's patients and she has a separate phone number. Well, Ms Wolf doesn't answer her phone nor does she return phone messages. We get nothing but cooperation from our insurance provider. They have gone so far to give us their direct lines, fax, address, you name it, and we have given this information those in Dr Carpenter's office who would need it. Apparently, it never made it off the computer screen or across the desk except to land in the trash. Hubs is reading aloud other reviews from patients that list complaints similar to ours, and there are several, far too many. It leads me to believe there is no point in leaving a review. Obviously, Dr Carpenter and his staff are not reading these. If they are, they place no importance on them or the patients' concerns addressed in these reviews. What I have written here happened 10/29 thru 10/31 of 2018. These pitiful reviews range in age from 2016, 2017, and 2018. There is nothing here that leads me to think there has been any improvement at all in the quality of care or service provided to patients. Our insurance provider has related the following information to us regarding Hubs prescriptions. 1. Testosterone prescriptions may be written for 6 months and they will obtain a refill authorization every 3 months from the prescribing physician. If the doctor needs monitoring bloodwork, he can obtain it every 6 months which is reasonable. (Dr Carpenter has been canceling refills every month demanding Hubs go in for visit and blood. Thereby essentially holding his prescription for ransom.) 2. RLS Med prescription may be written for 1 full year and they will obtain a refill authorization every 3 months from the prescribing physician. Dr Carpenter has not made any demands for visit or blood regarding this medication but it gets thrown into the mix with the testosterone every single month. Why? Hubs tells me Dr Carpenter is always on his way to the Carribean, Bahamas, or some island. We don't know if he is making these visits for personal relaxation or if he is helping a Catholic monastery in the region. In my opinion, Dr Carpenter needs to make a decision to work on his practice here or there. Trying to serve both is definitely showing signs of adverse effects on his patients here. I love the PA's that I've seen, but I always wait too long in the waiting room. Don't go on a Saturday or for blood work when you don't already have an appointment. You'll sit for hours waiting, because "patients" must be seen first. The last time I checked I was a patient, and you charged me to sit and be ignored. read more

Dr. Carpenter was extremely rude to my mother who waited 3 hours to see him. After waiting 3 long hours, he came in the room. When my mom remarked that she had been waiting for a while, he said "well are you going to tell me whats wrong or are you going to leave? You can leave if you want." Extremely unprofessional. She didn't even feel comfortable telling him all of the things wrong with her given how rude and rushed he was. This is not the level of professionalism I have experienced and seen at ANY of the PCPs I have sees in Los Angeles, New York or Boston. Any doctor who makes a patient feel uncomfortable enough to feel like they won't care to hear everything wrong with them is not only unprofessional, but dangerous. Visited this place 3 times and never again! The front desk service is awful! Each visit just got worse. They want you to sign all sorts of document that limits your rights to be a knowledgeable patient. The staff simply doesn't care to communicate with patients. If you call in advance and schedule an appointment chances are you won't see the doctor you requested to see and they don't give you a heads up about it. The walk-in wait is longer than a Disney world line. If you're 15 minutes late they consider you a walk-in but don't actually tell you until you throw a fit. Service is bad. Lobby is dirty and dusty. And the staff has no office etiquette. I asked for our medical records and will never return. I waited 4 hours to see someone who say with me for 8 minutes and the prescription didn't work anyway. Instead of doctor or nurse call me for test result. They did not do that but want me to come back and charge for $120 to see doctor for result. IF you can get an accurate appointment... The awful experience as a new or prospective patient starts with their terrible customer service when you call to make an appointment. They use a call center that schedules for multiple doctor's offices. Over three phone calls for two appointments, one for myself and one for my wife, the schedulers did not know the offices or their staff and were quite rude. This last time, we were told that the appointment was for 1230 and to arrive at 1215 for new patient paperwork. We arrived around 1217 and were given the standard set of paperwork, which my wife completed and returned. We waited for about 10 minutes at which time the receptionist called my wife up. She processed the payment via debit card, and when she was handing back the card and receipt (after we'd been there for at least 10 minutes), she then informed my wife that her appointment was at 12:15 and that we were there over ten minutes late and that we she would then be considered a walk-in patient and have to wait an undetermined amount of time to be seen (again, this was AFTER we were there for over 10 minutes and AFTER we were billed). I was ready to leave then, but my wife needed to be seen. So we waited for 30 minutes with no communication from the reception staff. My wife re-approached the counter and was told it would be at least another 30 minutes. We had our 20 month old with us, so I left and went home. And though they said 30 minutes, it was 50 minutes, for a total of 1 hour and 50 minutes waiting Over both visits to the office, I have found the reception staff to be rude and dismissive. They're quick to bill you, but very slow in great patient service. This is Dr. David Carpenter's practice and, if he knows about this continued style of patient interaction, should be ashamed of it. Patients need more humanizing care before they see a doctor, too. The new building and website look professional and inviting, but where and when the 'rubber hits the road,' drive your car somewhere else! read more

Worse experience I have ever experienced at a doctor. My appointment was originally at 8:20 but then I was informed two days earlier that they didn't take patients the first hour. Then why did they make my schedule at that time the week before? So my new appointment was at 11:40. And after 40 minutes I asked the receptionist what was going on. She said the doctor will be with me in "just a minute." So then they take me to the patient room. Where I proceeded to wait another 40 minutes. And when I kept asking the receptionists I didn't get an answer. Finally I was informed that there was an emergency with the physician assigned to me. I didn't mind it because I understand doctors have emergencies, but what I did mind was the lack of communication. Then Sofia Luna came inside and asked me if I wanted to set up a new appointment? Excuse me? She was so rude and told me her staff informed her I wanted to leave. Not once did I say I wanted to leave. I'm sorry it's such a hassle that I would ask what was taking so long? If I was two hours late to an appointment I would be charged a fee and not be attended, but a doctor can do that to a patient and we're supposed to be perfectly fine with that? I told Sofia Luna that it was the lack of communication that upset me and she told me "I wasn't aware we had to tell you there was an emergency." So unprofessional. This is a reflection of the office as opposed to the doctor himself. Forget about ever talking over the phone to the assistant in charge of you. Forget about them returning your call. They will respond in the portal but not the phone. I have Express Scripts and they have done nothing but screw up my prescriptions and they couldn't be any less apologetic. I had to go out of network and pay almost $200 for a prescription that would have cost me $10 had they cared for my prescription. Waiting for several additional weeks, and possible visits, while they play musical chairs with Express Scripts is the norm. If you want to avoid unnecessary headaches then consider another doctor. read more

Would they call to discuss the matter, No. the person who did the billing never retuned any of my three calls. They just wanted to bill another office visit to "go over" my lab results. My son ( he is 23 yrs old) had terrible upper respiratory infection with sneezing, cough, blocked nose, pink eye and he went to this place. I don't know what kind of doctors serving there but I'm shocked that they gave him 250 mg (Which is a dose given to little kids not adults) antibiotic and send him home. It's like a joke. I'm a mother and I know when to prescribe antibiotic and what dose needed for this kind of infection and it is certainly not 250mg baby dose antibiotic. She should of prescribe 500mg azithromycin for 23 yrs old person who has URI as it states on drug use info, not 250 mg kid dose. Waste of money. I don't know why I stayed at this place so long, but I was at my boiling point yesterday. My initial encounter with Dr. Moss was great. I thought this would be my new clinic and Dr. Moss would be my new doctor. Unfortunately, I now have a changed mind. When I went back after a couple of visits, things started going down hill. I've gone HFP many times with no appointment because what I was going for did not require an appointment. My third visit my information couldn't be found. The next visit I had to wait almost 40 minutes. I was supposed to go in and come right out. The next visit I went early Saturday morning and couldn't be seen because my prescription was expired (but my prescription was refilled at CVS) and I needed to see Dr. Moss for a follow-up. There was no discussion of payment options or if I had insurance. So the receptionist/appointment setter asks me to set-up an appointment for Monday to meet with Dr. Moss. I set-up the appointment and return on Monday after work. I sign in on time and take a seat. The same receptionist/appointment setter calls me up to tell me that they can see me and asked would this be self-pay? I replied "Self-pay?". She then replies, "Oh, you have insurance." I said, "Yes, I do have insurance!" I was offended and disgusted by the comment! Completely unprofessional! So, I pull out my insurance card and give it to her. She looks at the card and then tells me that I would have to see Dr. Carpenter and they had some changes around March where he would be the only one I could see because of my insurance. I asked when did this change take place. She stated it was around March of 2017. I'm completely unaware of any changes that had been made because of course they DO NOT COMMUNICATE via email, text or phone call. So, by this time I am pissed because I keep having to do this back and forth with HFP. She then says, "The person that set-up your appointment should have told you this." I told her, "You set-up my appointment!" I then proceeded to inform her of the conversation we had Saturday morning, which is why I was back Monday evening. She apologized more than once, but I was so done with the whole situation I asked for my insurance card back and told her I would be finding me another PCP because I'm constantly having issues with this facility.
