Opened September 2007 which took three years to develop is the main transport link in an out of Hull for buses, coaches and trains. I think they've tried to fit this in with the bus station and train station in Leeds with the concave automatic doors resembling those in the bus station. There are several shops, a ticket sales office and a waiting room. it is lighter and airer and does look better than the old bus station and it's been fitted with information points which shows times of the trains in and out of Hull and several up and down where the buses are displaying when the next bus is and which bay it will be departing from. Right next door to Royal Hotel and St Stephens - it's design is in keeping with the St Stephens shopping centre, but looks slightly odd nest to the hotel and premire house which is an old building. There have been problems with the interchange with several accidents over the last year - unfortuantely two of those peple died. So nicer and easier to use but a word of the wise for anyone using the interchange is just be careful and definately wait until it is safe to cross the road in that area.

Last time he managed to plan a visit home, Hull Trains cancelled the train he had bought tickets for and we ended up driving to Newark to pick him up from there at 10 o'clock at night. Today, his Hull Trains experience began with a 30 minute delay and continued with further delays as the train sat going nowhere at King's Cross. Of course, all this eats away into the limited time that we get to spend together. At the time of writing, his train has been sitting at King's Cross for just under an hour with no sign of anything happening any time soon. Train finally departed from King's Cross 1hour and 7 minutes late, which, at least, is better than the complete no show last time. We are planning a visit to London later this Summer and there is no way, under any circumstances, that we will book tickets with Hull Trains. Complete disgrace.

I don't often use public transportation as it's a bit pricey, but if and when I do the buses always show up and the drivers are always pleasant! Thank you Stagecoach and it's drivers for doing the best you can!

I always went by train (if I wasn't going by coach on the college's field trip), so this time I decided to give the bus a go. Typically, I don't go for the top deck, unless it is one of those open top tour buses, but I figured that it was going to be awhile until I got to Lincoln and I hadn't been to Lincoln this way, so hopefully it would be scenic. If you only bought a single, it is less than £5, so cheaper than a single by train. However, if you buy a return, depending on whether or not you have a rail pass of some sort and how far in advance you purchase your ticket, it could be cheaper or it could be even. That being said, the bus from Grantham takes about an hour and twenty minutes. If you take the train and change at Newark North Gate, you could get there in just under an hour. If you change anywhere else, it could take just under two hours. The view is really beautiful. I had never been on that side of the A607... usually if I am driving on the A607, I'm headed toward Melton, so this was a pleasant surprise and I enjoyed the views! The bus station in Lincoln is centrally located, although watch out, you could get run over by various buses going in and out (I watched a number of people dodging buses...). With either mode of transportation... a night out in Lincoln is not possible, you could stay later if you took the train back, but by later I mean 8 p.m. It isn't half bad, but if you are in a hurry, not really the best way to go and it doesn't necessarily save you anymore money than taking the train.

Until that lottery win comes in though I'll have to settle for a fleet of Vespas. Whilst they are getting their service, it's back to the board and public transport ago. Leeds is pretty well covered on the main buse routes and West Yorkshire Metro are the main suppliers. Now we all grumble about the service and standard in this country but I have to say Metro aren't half bad. What I will rave about is the free city centre buses, excellent. Metro's freecitybus links Leeds' rail and bus stations, business and shopping districts, the General Infirmary, Universities and Park Lane College. Not half bad Jack, especially as they run every few minutes from 6.30am till 7.30pm. You'll also find plenty of buses taking you to the outskirts of the city. Particularly handy if you want to venture to the football at Elland Road or the rugby and cricket at Headingley. They aren't perfect, but hell what is these days. However, after a day hitting the shops or getting home from work you really can't slam the service they provide.

These are easily booked on line and can be extended by one extra night staying at your chosen hotel. As the advert says, this is indeed a minicruise as all the luxuries of a full cruise are extended to this level of break. I would advise booking all meals as this is a great start to a luxurious evening on the overnight trip. On this occasion, the next morning after a good breakfast, saw us arrive at The Port of Zeebrugge where we boarded the coach to the town of Bruges. This takes approximately 30 minutes and the drop off point is The Central Bus and Train Station. From there, you are on your own for the rest of the day returning at 1730 hrs from the same point or returning the next evening as we did at the same time from the same departure point. If you have any doubts just ask your coach driver who will only be to pleased to advise you accordingley. As we intended stopping an extra night in Bruges, we pre booked a hotel with Superbreak. (http://www.superbreak.com/go/IM172) To maximise our stay, we planned in advance a route from Central Station to Katelijnestraat where our hotel was located as we intended to check in immediately. Rooms are generally available early morning which makes life easier as you can familiarise yourself with the hotel and deposit your luggage. If not you can generally deposit your luggage at the hotel luggage room freeing yourself up for the rest of the day with a later check in. At the end of two exhausting but enjoyable days in Bruges, we were looking forward to a relaxing evening meal and a good nights sleep before waking up to a hearty breakfast in Hull the following Morning.
