I came across this business by chance just after I moved to Scarborough a number of years ago and…read morehave never used any other car hire company in town since. I cant recommend them highly enough. They offer a range of cars and vans from the small cars such as Ford Kas to huge 7.5 tonne lorries. Prices are very reasonable for a days hire, and they offer reductions for weekend hire or weekly hire if you're looking longer term. Staff turnover is pretty high for some reason, but everyone is professional and the hire managers I've dealt with over the years have always been friendly and helpful. In the past I;ve been able to put business their way through clients of mine and they've responded by treating me like a valued customer and looking after me. No matter what you need or how long you need it for, this is the place to use in Scarborough without question, and I can recommend it without hesitation and hope to use them for years to come.

I booked a few days before arrival and asked for a Ford Focus or similar for 4 days. The price quoted was £108 which I thought reasonable. Having had previous experience with multi national hire companies who quote one price then heap on the charges afterwards. Gill Bradley's price included everything with a 200 mile per day limit. A representative from the company delivered the car as arranged and gave me a lift back to the office to complete the paperwork. I had been upgraded to a diesel Vauxhall Insignia at no extra charge. The car was around 8 months old and clean throughout. I was given the option to drop the car off after closing time but chose to be given a lift back to the campsite during office hours, it was also good to be present while the condition and fuel levels were checked. The £100 deposit was returned into my bank account the same day and because I left the fuel level roughly as I found it there was no extra charge. My experience was 100% positive, I would recommend this car hire to anyone.

It is clearly signposted from the road and has excellent access (controlled by traffic lights if heading in from B&Q side or exiting the compound) There are enough spaces for 920 vehicles, with ample disabled parking spaces located right in front of the bus stop (with ramp access down). There are even spaces set aside for larger vehicles, such as camper vans. However, if your vehicle is over 2.1m, you need to let the site staff know before entering the car park, and they will move the height barrier for you. The car park is monitored by CCTV and the control room is on site. They are also available for any queries that you may have. There are toilets on site. They are clean, if a little dated, but then is a public car park! The buses run frequenltly throughout the day (as early as 7am and at peak times running every 10 minutes), taking you from the car park to Piccadilly in the city centre in about 15 minutes. It drops you off close to the Jorvik Centre and the main pedestrian shopping areas. There are other stops available en route, such as Morrisons and Peasholme Green, but Piccadilly is the main stop where most people alight or catch the bus for the journey back. The last bus at time of writing, departs Picadilly at 8.05pm. The buses are clean and reliable with free wifi on board. The driver is (usually) very pleasant. The prices are good value, with an adult return ticket costing £2.80. That's not bad at all considering what you would pay in the car parks closer to the city centre. Concessions get a return ticket for just £1 each. Prices as of March 2015. .

Hull Paragon Interchange is the main bus and train station serving the city centre of Hull in the…read moreEast Riding of Yorkshire. It's right next to St Stephen's Shopping Centre. It's by no means the largest station in the country but is certainly adequate for a city the size of Hull. There are six active platforms, it's easy to get between them after passing through the ticket gates and there are a small number of seats to wait before boarding your train. The majority of train services that serve this station are operated by TransPennine Express, which also manages the station. Other operators serving the station include Northern Trains, Hull Trains and the occasional LNER service. I did notice a lack of staff around the station, I had to end up asking a police officer for directions as I struggled to find my way around the station and the city, after arriving for the first time, while he did seem helpful, I felt like a police officer had better things to do than offer directions to a lost and confused tourist. There's a small number of outlets inside the station to pick up a drink, with the traditional offerings of Costa, Starbucks and WHSmith being available. I would advise going to the Starbucks inside St Stephen's nearby if you have more time, however, as the one inside the station costs significantly more and does not accept Starbucks cards. The bus station part of the Interchange is certainly showing its' age, it isn't the most comfortable place to wait for a bus and it's obvious that it hasn't had any money spent on it in years. 3* - OK, certainly nice for a place the size of Hull which is so out in the sticks that the transport options are very limited anyway.

I travel fairly frequently with P&O Ferries from Hull to Rotterdam or Zeebrugge as I really enjoy…read moresailing and the mini break experience. The ferries leave between 1700 and 2130 and you check in a few hours before. On board you are alocated a small but perfectly formed practical and comfy cabin. The crossing happens overnight and you are at your chosen dock early in the AM. The prices are very reasonable and it is best to opt for all meals onboard at the time of booking. The food is a hot buffet type Restaurant and is all you can eat) It is always good qaulity with plenty of choice and there is a good salad bar and soups on offer. There is also a more expensive Ala Carte Restaurant onboard. Finally there is a cafe that serves tea and coffee til 0100, sandwiches are also available. The bars are open until around 0100 and the prices are mid range. there is a live band on each Evening and they are pretty good, quite similar to the club type cabaret style. Generally the crossings are peaceful, but the wend crossing can be pretty lively with Stag and Hen type parties and the beer monster guzzling types( ohh what a snob i sound... Bruges is a lovely tranquil place for a day out and Amsterdam certainly has it's own charms to offer. The typical ferry trip is a 2 night sail and a full day in the chosen resort. You can of course opt for a night in the resort for an extended stay. Service on the ferry is generally very good, although the Zeebrugge crossing is a larger, newer more stylish vessel, where the Staff are mainly Philipino very polite and helpful and tend to be a cut above the mainly Portugese staff on the other crossing. The cabins are clean and well appointed and are all on suite with bunk type beds. I would really recommend these mini breaks for a trip and my recent trip cost under £100 for x2 nights, all food onboard and return resort coach travel)
The P & O Ferries are great for low cost breaks! We recently went on the P & O Ferry to Bruges…read more Very good value return travel on the ferry and we took the option that P & O give you of staying an extra night in Bruges. There's plenty of bars on the ferry, also a small cinema and a couple of shops. The restaurants were really well organised and it was good food. Our cabin was compact, but clean and had everything you need. The ferry itself is kept to a high standard. The only downside we felt was that the main entertainment bar was the smoking bar. (i.e. You couldn't smoke anywhere else on the ferry but here and outside so it was very smokey). Not being a smoker I found this a little bit annoying (probably because we've become so used to people not being able to smoke in bars and restaurants over here). That aside, I would definitely recommend using P & O for short breaks. If you have the option book outside of school holiday time as it's so much more relaxing when it's not as busy!

Getting to Manchester can take forever but from Hull to Humberside airport is a mere 30 minutes, or so, in taxi. The airport is very small and has a sort of cosy atmosphere. The duty free area is not bad for such a small airport. Humberside is only used by some travel companies and to some destinations. Parking is not bad.
