It's by no means the largest station in the country but is certainly adequate for a city the size of Hull. There are six active platforms, it's easy to get between them after passing through the ticket gates and there are a small number of seats to wait before boarding your train. The majority of train services that serve this station are operated by TransPennine Express, which also manages the station. Other operators serving the station include Northern Trains, Hull Trains and the occasional LNER service. I did notice a lack of staff around the station, I had to end up asking a police officer for directions as I struggled to find my way around the station and the city, after arriving for the first time, while he did seem helpful, I felt like a police officer had better things to do than offer directions to a lost and confused tourist. There's a small number of outlets inside the station to pick up a drink, with the traditional offerings of Costa, Starbucks and WHSmith being available. I would advise going to the Starbucks inside St Stephen's nearby if you have more time, however, as the one inside the station costs significantly more and does not accept Starbucks cards. The bus station part of the Interchange is certainly showing its' age, it isn't the most comfortable place to wait for a bus and it's obvious that it hasn't had any money spent on it in years. 3* - OK, certainly nice for a place the size of Hull which is so out in the sticks that the transport options are very limited anyway.

To top it off, it's located downtown Hull, a great location for the weary traveler who needs a coffee pick-me-up, food or a hotel.

Last time he managed to plan a visit home, Hull Trains cancelled the train he had bought tickets for and we ended up driving to Newark to pick him up from there at 10 o'clock at night. Today, his Hull Trains experience began with a 30 minute delay and continued with further delays as the train sat going nowhere at King's Cross. Of course, all this eats away into the limited time that we get to spend together. At the time of writing, his train has been sitting at King's Cross for just under an hour with no sign of anything happening any time soon. Train finally departed from King's Cross 1hour and 7 minutes late, which, at least, is better than the complete no show last time. We are planning a visit to London later this Summer and there is no way, under any circumstances, that we will book tickets with Hull Trains. Complete disgrace.

If you are looking for a quick break away from it all then I would recommend a P&O Mini Cruise…read more(http://www.poferries.com/tourist/content/pages/template/minicruise_minicruises_from_Hull_minicruises_from_Hull.htm) to Rotterdam or Zeebrugge. These are easily booked on line and can be extended by one extra night staying at your chosen hotel. As the advert says, this is indeed a minicruise as all the luxuries of a full cruise are extended to this level of break. I would advise booking all meals as this is a great start to a luxurious evening on the overnight trip. On this occasion, the next morning after a good breakfast, saw us arrive at The Port of Zeebrugge where we boarded the coach to the town of Bruges. This takes approximately 30 minutes and the drop off point is The Central Bus and Train Station. From there, you are on your own for the rest of the day returning at 1730 hrs from the same point or returning the next evening as we did at the same time from the same departure point. If you have any doubts just ask your coach driver who will only be to pleased to advise you accordingley. As we intended stopping an extra night in Bruges, we pre booked a hotel with Superbreak. (http://www.superbreak.com/go/IM172) To maximise our stay, we planned in advance a route from Central Station to Katelijnestraat where our hotel was located as we intended to check in immediately. Rooms are generally available early morning which makes life easier as you can familiarise yourself with the hotel and deposit your luggage. If not you can generally deposit your luggage at the hotel luggage room freeing yourself up for the rest of the day with a later check in. Maps (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl) can be printed from Google Maps Make sure you take reasonable walking boots or shoes as you will be on your feet for most of each day. At the end of two exhausting but enjoyable days in Bruges, we were looking forward to a relaxing evening meal and a good nights sleep before waking up to a hearty breakfast in Hull the following Morning.

I stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hull during my recent trip to the city, the hotel is generally…read moregood value, and often falls below £100, making it a useful hotel to book if you need a couple of stays to secure status for another year, or if you fancy a trip away and don't fancy booking a cheaper Hampton. The hotel opened in 2017, and it still feels fairly new and modern, it is in a good location within the city centre, and it's just a couple of minutes down the street from the Hull Paragon (railway and bus station) and St Stephen's (shopping centre). I stayed at the hotel for one night, towards the end of September 2023. I was pleased to be upgraded to a Junior Suite as a Diamond Hilton Honors member, I did find the room to be a little small for a suite, but still, I was reasonably impressed with my room for a one-night stay, but may not have wanted to be there much longer. Being a corner room, the bed and TV were at an angle, and the sofa, while comfortable, was at the end of the bed, which would make it impossible to sit on the sofa and watch the TV. I was unimpressed with the amenities within the room, especially for a suite. The room didn't have a fridge, and there were also no slippers (strangely robes were provided). The bathroom was also a huge negative, it was difficult to use the shower without the glass panel swinging into me as it wouldn't stay still. They also seem to use wall-mounted toiletries now which seems to be the new norm, which I just think is cheap and tacky. Bring back the little bottles and bar soap! Combined with the water pressure, it easily became one of the worst hotel showers I've used. The hotel did seem reasonably quiet considering I stayed on a Friday night, with average hotel noise. My bed was comfortable however the pillows were on their last legs, and even after requesting extra ones, they weren't comfortable at all. Do be careful when visiting the hotel due to the early times for their fire alarm and check-out, the weekly fire alarm test is at 1130 on a Friday morning, and check-out is at 11 a.m, I do feel the fire alarm test especially should be in the afternoon. The staff seemed to be what made the hotel, they were very friendly and helpful and assisted me at numerous points during my stay. I was offered my bottled water and the Doubletree cookie when checking in at the front desk. They also offered me the use of a communal fridge at Reception for my milk, again not a great solution as having to go downstairs whenever I wanted it was annoying when I wanted to relax. I was also given a free drink voucher to use in the hotel bar, which entitled me to a glass of beer, wine, or a single house spirit and mixer (which I opted for), the bar didn't have much atmosphere, but I did visit in the afternoon before getting my train. The bar tender used a full coca cola as a mixer, meaning I couldn't even taste the Jack Daniels, it just tasted like sweet cola and nothing else. I ordered breakfast to the room, which came at a £5 tray charge, the hanger to order Breakfast in the room only goes up until 10 - 1030 am, even though they serve Breakfast until 11 am on a weekend, even after calling Reception they were unsure if they'd be able to do breakfast in the room at that time, eventually I had to stress it was my only option and he promised he would personally take care of it when the catering team arrived in the morning - he did deliver on this promise, but I felt uncertain. The portion size at breakfast was poor, I was given two small glasses of orange juice, the food quality was fine, and the hash browns were particularly good. although I didn't like the bacon. 3* - Overall, some positives for sure about this hotel, all in all for the price it's reasonable, but a lot of flaws, and I wouldn't return, at least until they put fridges in the rooms. All in all, if you're unlucky enough to be in the city of Hull (I wasn't a fan of the city as a tourist), this is probably one of the better places to stay out of a limited bad bunch.

Clean, New and Comfortable…read more I ended-up staying at several hotels while in Hull for two weeks for business and this one is my favorite. Location was great. You're located in downtown Hull, within walking distance to anything one could want; many shopping centers, Queens Garden, The Marina, Old Town and even the train station. I stayed in room 416 and it was impeccably clean, a huge must. Amenities included hairdryer, safe, lots of cubbies for clothes, tea/coffee bar, bathroom necessities and laundry services are available. Also, having good WIFI was a must, and I was never dropped or had strength problems during my five night stay. The staff was great, very helpful and friendly, both front desk and in the restaurant. They would call you a taxi; for some reason not all hotels would do this. Only con is the restaurant is quite pricey, but there are several great restaurants within walking distance, so almost a mute point. If I have to come to Hull again, I would most definitely stay here.
