Spend an afternoon with Jerry and Rick and it becomes obvious that they're in it for the love of the sport. I was given a bow by a co-worker, it was old and needed a lot of help. The big box store near where i live told me that it was a waste and i should just buy one of their expensive bows and be done with it. Jerry, on the other hand, i walked in with my decades old bow and within 30 minutes he had turned it back into a viscous target hunter. After a while i bought a brand new Hoyt Charger from Jerry and more or less have since retired my old bow. The difference is that i would much rather support a guy that was willing to work with what i had first, rather than the big stores that tried to milk my wallet the moment i walked through the door. Now just to add a bit about the shop environment. I would go here even if i wasn't a hunter. Walking in is like going to hang out with a bunch of old friends. Everyone is telling their stories, laughing, and joking. You've got guys walking in with giant fish that they just pulled, all so they can show off their catch. It's a great place to be. Bottom line - Jerry's is a store, but its also an experience you wont forget. Check it out!

The staff seem to know what they are talking about. You certainly don't want to go into any specialty shop and find that they've hired just anyone. Whether you have a simple rowboat or a live aboard yacht, you'll find all the technical items you might need as well as some of the more fun accoutrements for your boating pleasure.

I might even convince my future kids that this is Six Flags. And yes, if you haven't guessed, this was my first time visiting Bass Pro Shops. There is a lot of cool stuff, and everything is well organized. They have outdoor cooking machines, water bottles, boats, camouflage gear, and yes, lots and lots of fishing gear and equipment. Since we were mainly there for a fishing rod and line, we focused our time on the lower level, but I could not resist the urge of admiring the fish in the large tank for a few minutes. When I turned the corner, I saw turtles, and I of course thought they were fake, but no, they were very real. I also watched them for a couple minutes. I recruited the help of one of their employees, Jeff, to help my friend find a rod that met his needs. Jeff was very patient with us the whole time, especially since we had lots of questions and are very little knowledge. We ended up buying a rod, a reel, and some fishing line. Jeff offered loading the line onto the reel with a machine they have and of course we accepted. Even though I don't fish, being in the environment and seeing so much gear planted a little seed in me, so we'll see if it ever sprouts. For now, I will be planning another visit with more time to check out what else they have.
