Tried Hula Pot this week - it was pretty good! We didn't order from the hot pot side of the menu, but they have a wide array of offerings for their hot pot items which we will definitely try next time (I've had hot pot before, so I know their offerings are good!). I forgot to take photos of some items because we were so hungry, but we had an order of Spam Musubi for our appetizer, I got the loco moco without the Mac salad (I'm not keen on mayo) and my partner got the Kathi short ribs (which did come with Mac salad). I got a jasmine green tea to drink. The service was fast, our waiter was very kind, and the atmosphere was great - I loved the relaxing mint green color palette, the Bob Ross channel on the tv behind us, and the food was very well priced for large portions. We were in Coeur d'Alene for the night and decided to give Hula Pot a try. We warmly greatly by Jordin, a perky young waitress! My wife had the teriyaki chicken, while I had the kalbi ribs. Both dishes were delicious. I was disappointed that there were only 2 smaller kalbi ribs! Most places give 3 in an order. The macaroni salad was tastier than most I've experienced (and I've tried many). They do NOT offer a green salad as a substitute, which was very disappointing! We were recently at a very good hot pot in LA, so we opted for something else. Jordin made the dinner a fun time. She was conversational without being intrusive. Nice place in CDA for hot pot or takeout! My family and I stopped in for a pick up order of Chicken Katsu, Kalua Pork, and a side of white rice with a fried egg. When I walked in, I noticed the restaurant is very well kept and the booths are so cute. The staff greeted us warmly, promptly took our order, and our food was ready in no time. While I liked my Kalua Pork dish, I did add some Chicken Katsu sauce to the pork for more flavor. The Mac salad was good, but it had too much pepper for my liking. All in all, I'd go again! Came for the hotpot and let me just say on a cold night this place is amazing. Place is clean and has a modern feel. Definitely recommend coming around 4pm or later because street parking is free but there are several lots around this area. I ordered the ribeye with spicy broth no chili oil. And added on udon noodles to the set. Depending on your selection of meat the price ranges anywhere from $25-$28 Set comes with 1 scoop of rice, broth, protein, and a big bowl of vegetables. Our group of seven was celebrating a birthday and had driven in an hour from out of town specifically to celebrate at this restaurant per the request of the two honored guests. I made a reservation more than 24 hours in advance for our party of seven and, within an hour, received an email from Hula Pot confirming the reservation for our party. We arrived at our reserved time and was told by the hostess/server that our party of seven would be split between two tables near each other because their only two large tables were reserved for other parties (one of those tables sat unoccupied for just over half of our time there and the other table was unoccupied from the time we walked in to the time we paid the bill and left). The server was apologetic, but could not make any accommodations allowing us to be seated together because of the style of tables (hot pot built in) and the lack of large party seating in the restaurant.  Had we have been contacted (they had my phone number and my email) prior to the one hour drive to get there, and informed of the inability to seat us all together, we would have made arrangements to celebrate elsewhere. The whole purpose of making the reservation ahead of time was to ensure that we would be able to sit and celebrate together as a party of seven. Unfortunately, due to Hula Pot's failure to properly manage reservations, their failure to provide reasonable customer service (by informing us ahead of time of seating issues) and their lack of accommodations for parties greater than four people the birthday "celebration" was uncomfortable and awkward for our group. We were unable to converse with each other from several feet away; the birthday guests were not able to spend time with some of the other guests, and there was a noticeable awkwardness between staff and our group the entire time we were there. And other than the verbal apology from our server, the only other gesture for the inconvenience was one free dole whip.  The food was good, the restaurant was clean, and the seating for parties of four or less was plentiful. Sadly, Hula Pot's lack of communication, mismanagement of reservations and disappointing apology made for a very poor and unfortunate experience for our group. The way guests are treated and the way businesses resolve issues is just as important as how good the food they serve is. Not sure that we'll ever go back. read more

This is my 3rd take out order from Hula Pot and each one was fabulous: delicious food, prepared well and as described on the menu, reflective of what my non-Hawaiian palate imagines great Hawaiian casual cuisine is. Super friendly staff great you warmly, ensure they've got your order right, and bring it to you with a smile. Dining space gives a pleasant, open, clean fast casual vibe and the tables are clearly set up for their namesake Hula Pot, which I plan to try in the near future. For now I recommend the Mixed Fried Rice, Spicy Ramen, and Macaroni Salad: delicious! read more

We stopped in for a hotpot lunch after eagle watching on Lake CDA. Even though the hot pots are designed for individuals, my husband and I decided to share a lamb hotpot and added on an extra order of pork belly, which made it so that there was plenty for both of us. We loved that there were several broths on the menu to choose from, and a small but sufficient sauce bar for you to customize your own dipping sauce. The server was awesome. She was very good at instructing us on the operation of the hot pot controls, and was easy to flag down when we needed anything. The restaurant itself was quite clean and well kept. As my husband and I walk in we were greeted by our awesome server, Jordan. She knew the menu and even knew what we were asking for when we said portagee sausage and POG. She checked in with us multiple times to make sure we didn't have any questions or need anything else. She had a bright smile and was the perfect representative showing aloha spirit in everything she did. We first ordered the manapua and let me tell you it was made just like the ones from back home! I ordered the kahlua pig which was perfectly seasoned and tender. No need for knife! My meal came with a side of white rice, perfectly sticky properly cooked, and mac salad which could have gone toe to toe with my cousins back home. Bring your appetite because these guys don't play around! Neither me nor my husband could finish. I would say worth the price but honestly it was very inexpensive considering how well made everything was and how it reminded me of home and family. I would definitely have paid more just to get that feeling again while eating their food. My husband got the teriyaki chicken and it was exactly the same as my uncles back home. I could have cried but we were in public! Full of flavor and I just want to say that this is not your smothered teriyaki chicken...it's Hawaiian style and marinated all the way through, as it should be! My husband also got fried rice, which was also well seasoned and a good portion of mac salad. The food was exactly like how they'd make it back in Hawaii. I had the chicken katsu plate with mac salad and it brought back nostalgic feelings of home. What put me over the top was the Li Hing Mui powder on the Dole Whip. If you are from Hawaii, you know what that powder is. This is almost like a Korean BBQ joint, if the BBQ was a bowl of soup. You can get whatever protein you want, plus veggies and rice, and they have sauce station so you can make your own dipping sauce if you want. They also have entrees, and that's what I went for. I got the chicken katsu, and the wife got the breakfast special with Portuguese sausage. They have all the stuff I remember as a kid when dad was stationed in Hawaii. This place was great. Wasn't busy for a Wednesday evening. The seating is tight if you are tall but they have chair options to better assist. The establishment was clean and nicely decorated. They had a TV for you to watch. The server was great and friendly. We ordered potstickers for appetizer which were good. We didn't try the pot option but all had the Katsu, Short Ribs (very fatty but very flavorful meat), Kulua pork, bbq chicken. All tasted amazing and perfect flavor. A really cute spot serving a mixture of Japanese and Hawain food. The spot was super cute and we didn't even need a reservation when we showed up at 5:30. The service was a little slower, but the server preferences the table saying they had a rush. The appetizers came out at very different times and one came right before our food was served. A great positive was that the food all had great flavor, and I loved the food options. The food didn't come out hot, more warm, which was slightly bumming, but as mentioned, the flavor made up for it. Our server was kind and offered good options while we were ordering. Maybe I'm just old but this was a big ZERO in our opinion. Maybe the experience is the hype. We were looking for ramen in CDA and this place came up. It said it had "ramen style" noodles so we decided to give it a try. You cook your own food in little hot pots - plate of raw meat, bowl of vegetables and a very salty pot of broth which is just salt and water by my standards. Then you have a little remote under the table you bring up and regulate the cooking. Not tasty and laborious. Our friend got one of the Hawaiian dishes. We went there about 3:30 ish and we were hungry! I didn't realize that they had 2 options, cook at your table or menu items that their kitchen cooked. We decided to go with kitchen items. I had the Loco Moco, my all-time favorite Hawaiian dish. It did not disappoint, it was delicious and my husband had the kalua pork which he liked. Mac salad was also very good! Updating my review from a few months ago because we actually got to sit down and eat this time. We went on Friday night and ordered off the restaurant week menu. The positives: The appetizer were so good, spam musubi, bean soup and gyoza MMMmmmmm. The waiter was very nice and the restaurant was clean. The main dishes for the most part were good and the juice floats were tasty, nice that they had different flavor options. The negatives unfortunately for us outweighed the positives and it seems to me to be all about management. They were severely understaffed (I think the same problem that got us turned away on our first visit) and just kept seating people as they walked in. We had to wait 45 minutes for the appetizers and another 30 minutes for our main courses and they were still seating people left and right. There was a center station with sauces that were ALL empty when we went to look for a sides for hot pot and took a long time to refill, I watched as SEVERAL people went back to their tables empty handed. I was disappointed there wasn't a goma or sesame sauce for meat but we know that's not on point with the theme of the restaurant; however I love hoisin sauce and when I asked a passing waiter about it she looked exhausted and said she had to check on her table and someone would put it out. 20 minutes later (don't worry, our food was still an hour out) it still wasn't out there, our waiter brought it out within 2 minutes of me asking him though. On the printed menu for restaurant week that's been out for a week our meals specified noodles, one of my favorite accompaniments for hot pot and when I inquired I was told it was a misprint. Why not black it out? Or put a piece of black tape over it? And from a customer service standpoint when a person asks specifically about it I would just provide the noodles...... Overall our waiter was nice, the food was a little bit hit and miss (I'd go in for the appetizers) but until they can figure out the management I'm not sure I would return. They've been open for a year or two and that feels long enough to iron out some of these kinks.
