I attended Anderson Cultural Center (Olympic Ballet School) for ballet lessons for maybe a year or…read moretwo when I was growing up. I liked the jumping part of class, but was a little heavier than some of the other students so tended to be a bit snubbed by some of my classmates as the skinny girls formed a clique and would push themselves to the front of the class during movement practice. The space (classroom) fit the nature of the classes and could get a bit camped depending on enrollment and attendance. We did get to wear a leotard and tutu, which was what I found the most fun. A couple of years later I started competing for a local swim team and found the swimsuits we wore were the same cut as the leotards we wore in ballet. I thought that was cool, what I wore for ballet extended beyond the classroom and prepared me in some form for the attire of swimming.

I am writing purely from the classes perspective, I have never seen a production, but word on the…read morestreet is that they are very good. I love the classes here. They do not make an adult wear a leotard, nor do they have you perform in a recital. (you'd be surprised at thow many places with adult classes do require these things.) Helen is the owner and she teaches the tuesday class. She does an amazing job at tailoring the class to which students are there. Many dancers are advanced but beginners are always welcome. The beauty is that classes focus more on technique than super challenging advanced steps, making it so you always get a killer workout. Thursday classes are good too, but you definitetly have to know your ballet lingo and be in a mindset to focus. Overall, love this place!

Have been taking my 3-year-old daughter here for a few weeks now for the summer Mermaid Medley…read moreclass. She absolutely loves it! She can't stop talking about it all week, dances wherever she is, and always looks forward to her next class. There are about 5 other kids in her class. Teacher Eva is great with the kids, and parents get to sit and watch in the lobby area on the tvs if they choose to stick around. The lobby area seems to be a bit small and can get a little crowded between classes as parents drop off or pick up, but my daughter loves it so much we enrolled her for the 23/24 year in a ballet/tap/tumble class. I also have nothing else to compare it to, so I have no idea how big other places are or if they provide a peek into the dance classes with the tv, but I like that this is offered here!

Multiple days a week, from about 11:00 pm until after midnight, the people leave through the back…read moredoor, allowing it to SLAM shut. There is a man who lives on the first floor, right outside the doors, who is a senior with disabilities. I am on the third floor, and every time they wake me up. I've asked the dance studio to please deal with this problem, but they simply ignore me. Sometimes people stand outside laughing and talking as well. There is a quite simple solution: exit the front door after 10 pm. I have multiple videos of this happening.

I went here for my first dance lesson outside of college (because of covid, this was over a year…read moreago!) for the Hip Hop I/II lesson that took place around lunchtime of Sunday. Although the instructor was a substitute, I felt the quality of the lesson was not diminished at all. Pace of the lesson is beginner friendly, and even though it took me the first half of the hour to adjust and remember the vibe of dancing, I was still able to pick up the fundamentals and feel confident in myself dancing a few 8 counts at the end without hesitation. I had a great time, even with the fact that the class was really small (about 6 people), as it normally feels a bit intimidating for me to dance in small groups, at least for now. The only issue for me is the commute as I don't have a car to commute from downtown Seattle, but whenever my friend with a car wants to do more dance lessons, this will certainly be the first place I will think of! Besides, this is one of my coworkers go-to dance studio in the past before he moved closer to the city, and he has mentioned that before covid, some lessons are so popular you have to pay in advance to secure a spot!
