I am EXTREMELY dissatisfied with HughesNet, so much so that I filed a BBB complaint and a complaint with Yelp (so far). My biggest argument is that HughesNet levies a daily download allowance that they don't define anywhere on their website (or verbally by a sales rep, for that matter).
Turns out that the daily download includes surfing the internet or sending/receiving email. This information I discovered AFTER I signed up after online investigation. Then, if you are dissatisfied with their services, they threaten a hefty cancellation fee up to $400.
This is deception and a claim under the Unfair Business Practices Act. See: http://www.ehow.com/about_6692981_unfair-business-practice-act.html.
Furthermore, there is also a class action settlement against HughesNet, and the basis of the lawsuit agrees with my contention above: "The lawsuit that HughesNet's advertised download, upload and other internet speeds and Hughes' disclosures regarding its Fair Access Policy were misleading, and (ii) the (early termination) fees charged to subscribers when they cancelled their service before the end of their contract violated the law." See: http://www.satelliteinternetsettlement.com.
I have NEVER encountered such a degree of business FRAUD in my entire life. (Wikipedia defines fraud as "intentional deception".)
Do yourself a favor and do NOT choose HughesNet as your internet services provider. If anything, I HIGHLY recommend that consumers explore all available options before choosing to go with HughesNet. read more
