HV Chimney has been the only service I've used since purchasing my home 17 years ago. And Larry has been my go-to for advice and insurance that the job was properly managed. On this cleaning trip, Larry thoroughly inspected and cleaned the wood burning insert they recommended and installed a little less than a year ago. I didn't expect it to be a big job since we've used the fireplace just about four months in 2025. ( I almost put the service off a bit longer to save a few bucks.) My safety minded brain would not let me. THE DAY OF THE APPOINTMENT: my stove was not in use for months over the warm weather, so we we able to proceed. TIP: DO NOT USE UOUR FIREPLACE FOR AT LEAST 48 hours and insure there are no hot coals or they will need to reschedule for safety. We were ready to proceed. I'm glad I kept my appointment because more soot had built up in the nooks and crannies than was visible. SAFETY FIRST!!! Larry did his usual thorough examination and cleaning an left my living room tidier than he found it. I am considering options for a second fireplace that we decommissioned nearly 15 years ago. Larry took a close look and offered several great options for me. He's honest and Kelly at the office is wonderful and responsive, too. Wonderful people! I purchased a home with a cracked firebox, they came and assessed, provided a detailed estimate with all assessments and their opinions, very informative and showed understanding. They installed a new firebox which looks great and functioned great, but within a year there was a decent sized crack which had me very concerned. I called them and explained, sent a photo, they gave me very nice advice on what I'm seeing, when it becomes an issue, and what I can do. They decided to replace the cracked panel free of charge, with no warranty and no obligations. There were no issues with their original installation. This is our first home and the general inspection listed that our chimney needed to be lined and rebuilt due to age. Finding professional contractors in any area is difficult, I'm happy to say that if you need work done on your chimney, these guys know what they're doing. Estimate: Their Technician, Larry, came out to give us an estimate and showed us pictures he took of the visual inspection so that we could be well informed about what needed to be done and why. On his advice we broke the project into two, installing the liner and then the rebuild of the exposed part of the chimney itself. The work: So because the project was broken in two, we had workmen come to the house twice. Each was a good experience. Chad did a great job on both occasions (the second time a gentleman named Eric also came and did an equally fantastic job). Unfortunately can't remember the other team member's name. The work was done relatively quickly, professionally, and there was no debris/mess left over. This kind of result and pro attitude can be a rarity these days. After purchasing our first home, we knew we had to have our chimney inspected and cleaned before we would consider using it. Our technician, Kephra, was prompt, courteous and extremely knowledgeable. His inspection revealed several issues, the most pressing being an issue with our furnace flue that had to be replaced as soon as possible. We were scheduled for that replacement less than a week after the initial inspection. Bill and David were our techs for the installation and they were also prompt, courteous and extremely knowledgeable. The replacement was completed within a matter of hours and we are grateful that they were able to assist so quickly. Additionally, every single tech followed COVID-19 safety procedures during the entire visit by wearing masks and observing social distancing. BUYER BEWARE: We recently hired Hudson Valley Chimney Service for the PRIMARY PURPOSE OF REPAIRING A LEAK IN THE ATTIC AROUND OUR CHIMNEY! We explained to the sales rep that, although we would have other work done, THIS was the primary purpose for hiring them. Although not a primary goal (we have not used our fireplace in decades) we arranged to have the chimney flu sealed so we could safely burn firewood, and they seem to have done a good job. They also recommended having the chimney re-built since the bricks were very old and not in good condition (the house is 100 years old). We agreed and they seem to have done a good job with that as well. The workers were all friendly and the pricing, although fairly high, was as estimated. HOWEVER! Upon completion of the work, we were advised that they do NOT replace flashing which is very possibly where the leak was occurring. When asked, we were told they NEVER guarantee that their work will prevent leaks. When we pointed out that the proposal specifically stated "REINSTALL AND SEAL THE FLASHING AS NEEDED" they said this meant they would "reinstall the existing flashing." It was never clarified that they would not install new flashing even while acknowledging the existing flashing was in bad shape! In other words, because of DECEPTIVE SALES PRACTICES we paid $5173 for a chimney re-build that did not provide a long-term solution to the leak around the chimney, which was the primary reason for hiring them!! There are other chimney repair companies in the area and I would recommend using them rather than this company that sees fit to mislead senior citizens! Again, BUYER BEWARE!! read more

After the furnace was replaced and rebuilt on my mothers house, we were recommended to have it cleaned by this company, as well as replace the chimney cap the roofers had recently removed and didn't bother to replace. It took months and 3 attempts to get an appointment. They were rude on the phone, and cancelled on my elderly mother with no courtesy call. On the third attempt, they came and gave a 13,000 $ estimate instead of cleaning it, claiming it was too damaged and unsafe to use. Prior to calling, it was inspected already, and prior to them arriving, they had already gave an estimate over the phone for 125 dollars to clean each flue (fireplace and furnace). This large scale estimate included a 1000$ chimney cap, and extra waterproofing not needed as the chimney and brick were in great shape (I'm an architect). They charged 189$ for the unplanned estimate on-site, refusing to clean. Their flue photos don't match the extent of the problems in their written inspection, and I imagine if the woman who owned the house wasn't in her 70's, they wouldn't have tried ripping her off. We will be pursuing another company that is more transparent and doesn't have such a high overhead for their jobs. read more

6/22 Had new stainless steel chase cover and some collar installed alone with piping and silicone. The lack of professional workmanship created a leak during rain storm. The area had to be covered with tarp for 2 days and technician respond back to seal up the pin hole left during original installation. The company Manager had no urgency sending out a crew after a message was left about leaking water into second story of the chase shaft. read more

After many years of disuse, I decided to have Hudson Valley Chimney perform an inspection on my fireplace and chimney. Robby was the technician and he did an extremely thorough job, while leaving no dirt behind. Much to my dismay, he discovered that the home builder failed to build the chimney properly and I needed to have a proper metal chase cover installed as well as removal of debris from the chase itself. He gave a me a very fair price and when the job turned out to take longer and be more difficult than envisioned, he kept the price at the original estimate. We had our annual chimney inspection and cleaning with Hudson Valley recently, as we have pre-scheduled w/ them for the last 8 years.  The usual sweep who came with his assistant, who were both very professional and nice. I was told that the chimney was "too dusty" to clean (so what was he doing for over a 1/2 hr. inside our fire box?) and that they would have to go on the roof w/ their remote camera. I was shocked when our regular sweep told me that our chimney -which he and an assistant have cleaned every year for years- couldn't be swept but instead, needed a chemical cleaning to remove hard, glazed creosote (to the tune of $3600) . We didn't use the chimney that much this past year and always use seasoned hardwoods, plus a creosote spray - so this announcement was quite the surprise. The next day I received a bill for the inspection & cleaning (although the men who were here said the chimney "couldn't be cleaned, b/c it was too dusty"). Then another estimate arrived, this one for almost $6,000.00 worth of repairs - including red flags, such as using rubberized paint on the exterior masonry and replacing the damper, which works perfectly (both sweeps told me the damper was in fine condition when they cleaned the chimney). No mention, however, of the exterior masonry work we thought might be needed. We paid for the initial cleaning and inspection. The company started sending us emails a few times/week, asking about the additional repairs, until I replied that I could be in touch if I was interested (personally, I find this type of marketing to be overly aggressive). I then called another company to do an inspection of the interior chimney flue, the smoke box, the fire chamber, and the exterior masonry work. Our roofer also employs a mason, who took a look at the chimney, inside and out, when were were having repairs to our roof earlier this week. It turns out that there is nothing wrong with our chimney. It only needs some repointing re: the brickwork. After using and trusting this company for so many years, we were greatly disappointed. They've lost our business for good. read more

We scheduled a chimney inspection and cleaning with Hudson Valley recently. The service person who came was nice. His remote camera and iPad video were very impressive; however I was shocked when he said our 1980's chimney couldn't simply be swept but rather needed a chemical cleaning and major repairs. He went to his truck and after 10 minutes returned with a quote for over $9,000 worth of work. It seemed like a scam and after having another chimney company inspect and sweep the chimney I realized it was a total scam. There is nothing wrong with our chimney. Stay away from Hudson Valley Chimney unless you want to be taken for a very costly ride! read more

My wife picked up the fireplace at Ashlieghs and signed for it inside. The dealer loaded the gas fireplace my truck. I unpacked the pallet and took the fireplace inside. Unfortunately I didn't unpack the gas unit from the box because when I unpacked the box when I was ready to install the unit 3 months later I found out it had been crushed. Ashleigh's sells gas, pellet, and wood fireplaces, stoves, and inserts. This place is very shady and I would be very wary of them. Firstly, one of their employees told me that Bill Murphy (the owner) makes it a point to see what car you drive up in and adjusts the prices according to the vehicle you drive. In addition, they charge to come out to your home to measure or assess your fireplace (most others don't) and then they check out your home and adjust the prices again. They referred me to a contractor whom "they trusted" and the contractor recommended that I shop somewhere else. They have a salesman there (Anthony) who is quite slick and persistent. Purchasing a fireplace or wood stove is a complex process and can be costly. Do not spend thousands more than you should. You can get good quality for much less. Shop around. There are far more reputable dealers out there. read more

Booked them for a simple chimney cleaning and was given a date over a month away, but was pleased when they called me with a cancellation and offered me an earlier appointment. Larry, the man who came to my house, was extremely polite. Those are probably the only good things I have to say about this company from here on out. He refused to touch my wood stove or chimney because he said it was "unsafe" and "not up to code," despite the fact that the system was inspected and certified by the town and the previous homeowners used it for 20 years with no problems. I was charged $130, absolutely no work was done, and I was told that that I needed to rip out my stove and install a whole new unit -- which would undoubtedly end up costing thousands of dollars. I found it all too convenient that right after he told me this, he handed me a business card for Ashleigh's Hearth and Home, a fireplace/wood stove store which just happens to be owned by the same guy who owns Hudson Valley Chimney! I refused to believe his diagnosis, and sure enough, I got another company to come a few weeks later and they cleaned my chimney, no questions asked. He couldn't believe that another company refused to touch it -- he said it was a "great stove" and pointed out multiple inaccuracies in Hudson Valley Chimney's inspection report (incorrect measurements, a false claim that my chimney was too short, and a bunch of other totally fake/exaggerated "problems"). I think he was trying to take advantage of me because I told him this was our first house. We might be first-time homeowners, but we're not stupid. Avoid this company! This store is the WORST. The only redeeming quality is that they smile while they lie to you. First, they sold me the wrong parts for my chimney which means the hole in my roof is incorrect. Next, they gave me a price and told me that they would discount it further if I wanted the fireplace. When I told them to get the new price it came in $700 higher than the original. When I called them on it they told me that it wasn't their fault and I should have known that it was wrong in the first place.
