The entire operation and everyone involved has been professional and focused on providing the best care possible. Dad experienced some medical problems (completely unrelated to the care provided by Visiting Angels) after a year into the VAO care program which resulted in changes to his living arrangements. VAO was understanding, cooperative, flexible, helpful and supportive in making adjustments to Dad's care program. It has now been nearly 18-months since VAO began providing services. We have never had a problem with billings, services, care-givers, or compliance with the scope of services provided by VAO and the outstanding staff. Dad has been cared for by one person for the overwhelming majority of time - but there has been a limited number of days when other caregivers were required to fill-in (due to illness, doctor visits, family emergencies, etc) for Dad's primary caregiver. The "substitute" caregivers were each well informed of Dad's condition/personality before arriving and each provided good, friendly, quality support that was welcomed by Dad. If you're ever in need of a reliable home health care service to provide care, companionship, light housekeeping services, assisting with meal preparation and clean-up, personal hygiene and grooming support, and a compassionate friend to help care for a loved one, I would certainly strongly recommend VAO. Reach out to Elizabeth or Kandice and find out how VAO can work with you in developing a program that works best for your loved ones needs and interests: the costs for care are very reasonable given the quality and reliability of services.

Families considering placement here should be prepared to install a camera in the room or visit frequently--because trust alone is not enough. Far too many troubling events were witnessed to simply look the other way. Promises of attentive care, consistent oversight, and responsive management were nothing more than empty words. Reaching someone in authority was impossible, and when contact was made, accountability was absent. This facility is the definition of overpromised and utterly underdelivered, failing at the very responsibilities it claims to uphold. From the start, the sales pitch was filled with assurances: personalized care, attentive staff, regular check-ins and medication management. . The lobby and dining area were staged to impress, projecting an image of quality and comfort. Yet those appearances were nothing more than a façade. Beneath the surface, the reality was disorganization, and a complete failure to prioritize what truly matters--the health, safety, and well-being of residents. There is no consistent nursing presence in this facility. Critical medical support is missing, and even the most basic emergency equipment is unavailable when needed. In a crisis, the default response is simply to call EMS, leaving residents exposed and unprotected. This dangerous lack of immediate care fuels constant fear about whether residents will receive timely help--or any help at all. Medication management is equally unacceptable. Prescribed medications were not given at scheduled times and, in some cases, appeared to be absent altogether. This failure is inexcusable, placing residents at serious risk and destroying any confidence that families might have in the facility's ability to provide even the most basic medical oversight. Communication is unacceptable. Management is often unavailable or unwilling to take responsibility. Staff morale is shockingly low, with employees openly complaining to residents and families about low pay and poor working conditions. This is unprofessional and deeply unsettling. Constant caregiver turnover has left the facility struggling to maintain consistent employees, directly impacting resident safety and comfort. During one visit, a stop at the billing office resulted in being told to return another day because the accountant was in the kitchen cooking. This was not only shocking but a clear illustration of dysfunction. Basic health care plans were ignored. Heating and comfort were also neglected. When the weather turned cold, heat was often turned off in resident rooms, leaving cold, damp air. The activities program was a constant disappointment. What was advertised as a vibrant calendar of events turned out to be inconsistent and uninspiring. Scheduled activities were , poorly organized, and offered little encouragement for meaningful social interaction or mental stimulation. Personal belongings were not safe items went missing from the resident room, with no accountability, and no resolution. Families should be warned never to leave anything of personal or sentimental value, as losses are permanent and replacements will not happen. This entire experience was heartbreaking. No elderly resident should ever be subjected to this level of indifference, and unprofessionalism. Do not be fooled by appearances. For the safety and dignity of loved ones, look elsewhere for care that can truly be trusted.

The building is nice, no smells, and everyone smiles on your first day. Looked great, moved in, downhill from there. My mom needed an ultrasound for a swelling on her leg that appeared last Wednesday. An in-room ultrasound was ordered Thursday. For days, home health providers/physical therapists have exclaimed, "Wow, that leg needs diagnosed!" It's now the following Tuesday and no ultrasound. I've had conversations every other day with the facility's Director, who commiserates, but can't (or won't) make anything happen. He needs to light a fire under someone, and start using terms like 'contract non-performance', 'breach of contract', etc. with that service provider. Lots of turnover in the Caregiver staff, so they've been struggling to keep a skeleton crew on at night. Long waits for pain pills, etc. The kitchen staff is atrocious: Dirty glasses (one broken glass!); long waits; when you order from that day's menu, they bring something different with no explanation; when you order from the "Available Every Day" menu, they bring something different with no explanation; hot food is served cold half the time; and on and on. But hey, they've got chandeliers!... Like others, we're considering moving if things don't improve.

My mother was there for just two months and then we had to transfer her to a different facility. In the tour/interview process, they are extremely responsive. However, once you have your loved one placed, you can forget about timely responses, if they respond at all. Mom has heart issues and we were assured a cardiologist was coming onsite to see her. Never happened in the two months she was there. We could have brought her to one ourselves but were told it was handled. We could go on and on about similar things but suffice to say, what you are told during your tour/interview, probably is not completely accurate and I'm not even sure how to instruct on getting accurate answers. The facility is nice, it's clean, good food and activities for residents; however, the communication and response issue is NOT good at all. They also seem to lose medical records as well as treating physician names. Definitely could use some admin oversight or assistance in responding to family members of residents.

My mother was there for 9 months we had to place her there in the middle of covid. When they opened up and I walked in through the doors, the things that I saw were horrific. The place is filthy the management takes no culpability for the lack of care for the patients. When my mother walked through those doors she was walking, taking showers by herself, and feeding herself. By the time I removed her she had been left in bed with very little activity for 9 months, she had no muscle tone in her legs and could not walk on her own. I would come into her room and find her lying in bed in a wet pull up or full of faeces. This memory wing is like a morgue. These dementia patients need stimulating activity and there is none what so ever there. I do not blame the staff I blame the management, they take no accountability. When we had to make the difficult decision to place my mother there I provided her with beautiful linens, clothing, and new furniture. When I was able to come into the facility several weeks ago after they opened up, half of her clothes were missing all of her linens were missing she didn't even have her original bed that I provided for her when she moved in. Her room was filthy there were dust balls under her bed the size of baseball's, her bathroom was filthy, she was dehydrated. She was constantly getting UTI's (urinary tract infections) that was because nobody bothered to make sure she was hydrated. If that wasn't already enough to make me move my mother then they made the decision to remove Makayla Saunderson who's in charge of activities in the memory wing. She was excused from her position. With the exception of a few nurses and aids she was the only staff member there that I saw that truly care for these patients. If you are in the process of making that very difficult decision to place a family member in a assisted living facility and would like more information On what I saw and what my mother went through at canopy oaks please IM me 0n facebook. I would be happy to give you further details. Please don't be fooled by their discounted rates. When I went to pick up her belongings, not one staff member asked me how she was doing. Instead, the business manager reminded me to make sure that I still send in her payment for the next month. When my friend first arrived here, we were assured that they had in house doctors who accepted her insurance and that they are all inclusive. That was not the case. Weeks went by before I was notified she was out of her meds. When they found metastasized nodules in her lungs and referred her to a pulmonologist, I was told they would schedule the appointment and everything would be taken care of. Two months went by without hearing anything, only to call and find out that they dont have any provider's who accept that insurance in that county and I would have to take her myself. That is completely fine, but how am I supposed to know these things if they don't communicate that? I've received calls from their own staff who are concerned about her not being taken care of properly. Life is hard enough dealing with Alzheimer's, for the caregivers and loved ones experiencing this debilitating disease. Please keep a close eye on your loved ones at this facility.

On Friday, May 12, 2023, I admitted my mother to The Gardens because I was unable to care for her any longer at home. When I arrived, there was no senior staff and a limited number of staff on the premises, so I was assisted by the "dietary supervisor" and an aid with getting my mother into a wheelchair and into the facility. The room was not ready for my mother. The bed was in the process of being assembled and the room was filthy with flies on the windowsill and a brown ring in the toilet. When I arrived on Saturday morning my mother was still in bed and had not been dressed. When I went to look for someone to help me dress her, I was told that only one aid had shown up for work that morning and he was having to do everything by himself. He got an aid from the Memory Care unit to help him get my mom cleaned up and dressed. I had to administer my mother's medications because no one had gotten a medication list from me and the aid refused to administer the medications without a list being on the computer. Things were even worse on Sunday when I came in. There were dirty clothes and linen everywhere and the wastebasket had soiled diapers sitting in it. Monday morning it was just as bad. The Hospice nurse was there dressing mom's wounds when I arrived and mom's breakfast was sitting on the tray table getting cold. She was not yet dressed. I ended up feeding her and once again administering her medications. When I found an aid to help me get her dressed, I was told by the aid that she was "afraid to touch" my mother. When the Administrator finally arrived, I met with her and went over my mother's medications. I was told that a paper order would be written so that mom would get her medications on schedule. That morning, I made the decision to move my mother to a different facility. Unfortunately, before I could make those arrangements, on Monday night I received a call from the facility that my mother had been non-responsive when the aid went to put her to bed and mom had been transported to the hospital. I have just learned that when the EMTs came to pick mom up, she was sitting in a pool of urine and diarrhea was leaking from her diaper. It was obvious that she had not received care for an excessively long period of time. The facility has been reported to Adult Protective Services by the EMTs.
