Bacon was way too done and brittle, country ham piece looked good but it was so tough it was even hard to cut, let alone chew, and was much too salty. The sausage - ummm, it was a round patty, but seriously unrecognizable, and almost black in color. I tried a small piece of it but nope, it was not even edible. I just thought how could they even feel good about serving this stuff. Hash browns were not even consistent. Some were crispy and good while another part of the pile were nearly raw and not cooked through at all. Even the biscuit fell flat because it was flat. Not a fluffy southern biscuit that i had hoped for. Wife's breakfast was similar and she wasn't able to finish it, nor was I which rarely happens. We love going out to breakfast and it's usually one of our favorite meals to eat out but this just didn't cut it. Maybe there was just a new cook that day or maybe he was having an off day but it really didn't check all the boxes for us sorry to say. I was back in the town I grew up in a couple of weeks ago, and heard there was a really nice cafe in Stanford now called the Bluebird, so I sought it out. I was amazed. This definitely is more like a place I would expect in Lexington or Louisville. The food is genuinely good. Iced coffee and espresso, hot browns, and lots of other food that was never in Stanford when I was growing up there as a kid. I know that Stanford went wet a few years ago in a referendum, but it's still surreal to see margaritas and other mixed drinks on the menu in a place in Stanford. The ambiance was friendly and welcoming, and struck a nice balance between small town friendly. I had a patty melt, which was probably the best meal I'd ever had in a restaurant in Stanford in my entire life. I will definitely be back the next time I come back to my old hometown.
