Super cute and quiet restaurant off the side of the highway that we stumbled upon during our road trip in the part of the country we've never been to. This place is a real gem right off of 57. Crispy, moist, perfectly seasoned catfish was the highlight. We also recommend the baked beans with ground meat and bits of onion, and the well seasoned turnip greens. We even drank up the pot likker. The pecan pie was ordinary. Still a terrific meal. Stopped in right after sunset for a delicious and filling dinner after a long day driving a moving van. The server was friendly & efficient. The place was clean. The food was superb. We got a double cheeseburger, kraut burger (YUM!) and perfectly fried okra. The burgers were some of the best either of us have eaten. They were very juicy & flavorful, with a nice scald on the outside. The buns & toppings were fresh. The okra was amazingly good! I wish we didn't live 5 hours away from here, but then my waistline & heart will appreciate the distance. :D The pies looked really yummy too, but we didn't have room for dessert. We are on a roadtrip from Texas to Indiana and stopped here for our final dinner before the final leg. We choose a local diner and it went great. Seating was a bit weird, nothing to say if you wait or seat yourself. Finally a young waitstaff woman said we could sit ourselves. The decor was lots of paintings and pictures of fishing and country. Think Tom Sawyer. They also has slots in a small side room. My wife and I did not drink as we were on a long trip but the catfish was listed as fresh and local so I got the 2 piece with hush puppies, fries, and mashed potatoes. She got a catfish hoagie and after all the advertising I have to say, it was really good! I was impressed as good catfish is tough to find but this was great. Shana loved the hoagie as well with fries. The fries were fine. Mashed potatoes were good, average but the hushpuppies and catfish were worth the stop. They had one TV in the dining room we ate in. There is a bar but again didn't drink. Quick note, there is a whole part of the menu only available after 3 PM do if you stop for lunch remember that. We played the electronic penny slots after for a moment. We played 10 bucks a piece. She lost and I walked away with 47 bucks from 10. If there are downsides it is the two waitstaff we had were young and the first one was not rude but not really friendly. She seemed distracted or that she was confused by us. Not sure, she was not mean but something was off. Overall I can recommend this place. We got two catfish meals and soda with sides and the whole bill was under 20 before tip. We tipped well making it higher. They sell Tshirts and if you get a beer you get a free koozie with company name. Check it out if you get a chance. They list meatloaf as another special if that's more your alley. read more

Huckleberry's is located 2 minutes from I-57 and the service was excellent. We sat down and the waitress immediately greeted us and took our drink orders, they were delivered promptly. We ordered hamburgers and the fried catfish special with mashed potatoes and baked beans. The hamburgers were EXCELLENT! They taste like an old fashioned handmade burger cooked on a griddle with crispy edges. The fish and beans were "ok" but the mashed potatoes had the consistency as if they had been reheated in a microwave. We also ordered the fried okra appetizer and it was good but the okra was mushy as if it had been frozen then fried. Stick with the burgers and you'll be very happy. This is a great option if you're traveling through. We were there on a Friday night and while business was steady, it wasn't crowded and the staff was very attentive. We ate dinner and got back on the road within 40 minutes. read more

If I could give half stars, I would rate this a 4.5 I didn't want to go down to a 4, so I gave a 5. This restaurant was SUCH a happy surprise for my husband and me road-tripping! We came around Christmas time, and we were pleasantly surprised to see messages about Jesus on their sign! When we pulled up to the parking lot we knew it must be great due to the volume of cars. We went to the dining room, not the pub side. At the door was a picture of baby Jesus in His manger with a message, "The True Meaning of Christmas". The restaurant was neat and cozy and decorated so cutely and festively Brent and I even lit our candle on the table to set the mood. ‍‍‍ Our server was young and cute, not the most attentive throughout our time there (which I think was because she was VERY busy juggling a lot of orders), but she got the job done. I got the .50 wings - 10 Honey Garlic - and a side of Huck's potatoes and onions (which were like home fries). Wings: DELISH, I just wish they had come out hot for me! They felt like they'd been sitting a little before I received them. The potatoes were very yummy, especially with the house made Jalapeño Ranch (the regular Ranch is not house made, which I am big about). My sweet tea was great as well. Brent ordered a plain, well-done burger and fries and he was ECSTATIC over all of it. At the end of our meal, we gave our server a JESUS SAVES wristband that we always hand out, and she gave us a couple of "Proud to be an American" koosies and a couple books of matches. My family and I stopped at this absolute gem on our way from Texas to northern Illinois. The service was awesome! Cara took great care of us. She made excellent suggestions on what we might want to eat. And made sure we were satisfied with our selections. The entire staff checked on us continuously and worked well as a team to make sure our drinks didn't get empty. My sister and I had the Philly Cheesesteak. It was delicious! It was very well seasoned and ine of the best Philly's I've ever had. Mom had the Ruben and she said the same thing. The place was clean and nicely decorated. Crunch outside, nice firm inside, and a roumalaude sauce I thought was going to not be so great, because of the consistency, but was one of the best I've tasted! The pulled pork, amazing. The greens were ok. Biscuit was average. But hold the freaking press.... The REUBEN... I was rendered speechless... For anyone who knows me. Knows this is an impossible feat! I ate everything guys. Don't come here if you are in a hurry. We sat for awhile before we even got menus. Total time at the restaurant was 1.5 hours on a Sunday evening. It wasn't too busy. My momma brought me here on a whim and it was wonderful! Looks like your normal pop in local restaurant there was a hot food smorgasbord setup though we didn't try it. I didn't get past the appetizers on the menu to order. I did order fries, chicken livers and fried dill pickle chips and couldn't have been happier. I never see them on many menus. My momma decided on fish with coleslaw fries and hush puppies which I did sneak some pretty savory bites of. The serving sizes were very large and I had leftovers for another meal or two. Honestly the food was even better when I had it later warming a bit in my air fryer. I highly recommend even making a meal of the appetizers! Our waitperson was very sweet and friendly. The owner also popped up and asked how we enjoyed everything and chatted a bit. I highly recommend this place to pop in with family or to grab to take home and enjoy! We stopped on our way back to Northern Indiana, and were pleasantly surprised. I got the Reuben and it was a very large sandwich that also tasted amazing. What impressed us as much as the food was the friendly service and staff. At one point, the manager sat down with us and struck up a conversation. You can tell people care and take pride in their work, food, and service. If we are ever back in the area, we'll for sure go back. Thanks for the koozies and cups. read more

We had a delicious lunch, pulled pork for me and catfish for my husband and son. Each came with three unlimited sides plus beverage and dessert. Our bill was about $50, including a 20% tip. Stopped here on a road trip from Chicago to Memphis. The service was quick and the staff was very helpful. My partner ordered the catfish, mashed potatoes, fries, and slaw. I ordered a taco salad. Partner said the catfish was pretty good, but wasn't a huge fan of the gravy on the mashed potatoes. We shared the fries and they were yummy. The slaw was a bit too sweet for my taste, but had a really great crunch. The veggies in my salad were fresh and they happily subbed the taco meat for a hard-boiled egg to make it vegetarian. The sweet tea was a little watered down, but we hadn't yet passed into the South so I should set my standards a little lower. The bathrooms smelled overwhelmingly of urine and vanilla. Traveling through and found this great restaurant. The pork tenderloin sandwich was so delicious, we got it on Texas toast instead of the sweet bun. The pork is huge, very flavorful and tender. The cucumber salad was also very good. You will definitely like this place. read more

We opted to drive 90 minutes for breakfast here instead of eating the free hotel breakfast...and we're so happy that we did! It was delicious! The scrambled eggs and thick cut bacon were done perfectly! And the pancakes were so good-huge, fluffy with crispy edges just the way I like them. The only thing that would have made them better if there was a Real maple syrup upgrade available. There isn't a kids menu, but it's ok. The food is so reasonably priced that it isn't needed. The service was fast and super friendly too. Hopefully someday we'll be able to eat here for lunch or dinner. read more

We came here for breakfast while visiting my sister in the area. From the outside I would take it more for a cute store until you get closer and see the signs. We were seated immediately by a friendly waitress. They've a section for dining, slots and a bar. We sat in the dining area. The nice thing is that they've high chairs if needed. Their breakfast menu is a bit limited, but let's be honest breakfast shouldn't be too complicated nor should it be expensive. I opted for the 2 eggs with biscuit and cup of gravy. My mother and I ordered their Bloody Mary's in addition to our morning coffee. My oh my I could drink several of them! Not too salty with the perfect amount of booze. Needless to say, my sisters capped us to two each. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The biscuit was pretty good especially with a cup of gravy on it. I normally do not like pancakes, french toasts or waffles. Most of the time they're bland, under or too over cooked. One bite and well I'm done. My sister ordered the pancakes and she was nice enough to give me a bite. The pancake was fluffy, sweet with vanilla and had a beautiful slightly crunchy crust to it. I ended up eating half of her giant pancake. It was that good! I would like to come back when I'm in the area again. The prices are very reasonable and the service was great. Also I wouldn't mind having a few more Bloody Mary's here. Great place to stop to eat or have a drink at. read more

Great food and awesome staff! We were on 57 headed from Michigan, back home to Texas, and found this hidden gem! We are avid travelers and it hasn't been easy finding inside dining during this covid nightmare! While Huckleberry's is closed to inside dining, you can eat on the patio. Which is covered and heated. It was nice to take a break from the road and eat some wonderful non fast food. We picked pulled pork from the daily specials, which included three generous sides, unlimited soda or tea and dessert for 12 and some change. I'm embarrassed to say I almost finished every last bite! It was so nice to have "real" food for a change. This restaurant is clearly a staple to their little town. Take the exit to Huckleberry's and give them your business! Stopped on the way home from Memphis. Very friendly staff and the food was excellent. My friend had fried chicken, greens and macaroni and cheese. I had pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes with cream gravy. I can say that everything was excellent. On the next trip to Memphis we will definitely stop here. Oh and it was Mother's Day and they had been very busy but everything was clean and our food was served very fast. They even gave us drinks (ice tea and Diet Coke) to go. The food is classic southern cooking; great greens, beans and mac and cheese. The Reuben is among the best I've had and I'm not sure why that's true but it is. They have some interesting beers on tap (some uninteresting ones too), dessert like grandma made and quick prep times so you never get hangry. Don't get the pizza, that's not the jam here. I haven't researched anything on this place but based on my experience, I would guess that this was a solely a bar that at one point said, "What the heck, let's serve food." They should have stayed with the bar idea because pretending to be a bar and grill and serving only bar quality food is a kick in the crotch to someone passing through looking for a decent meal. maybe that's unfair but there days there are a lot of "bar and grill" places that are pretty decent. This is one of the only sit-down places just off the interstate for several miles in any direction so I guess they can get away with whatever they want. I stopped in with my family at the midway point of a 16 hour drive and was wholeheartedly let down. We received terrible service at the get go and I would have just walked out at that point but I was already committed to the stop and like I said, the options are few. When the food came, I really wished I was drinking, heavily, because it would have been the only way I would have thought the food was ok. The pizza was as plain and unremarkable as can be with the sugary dough that just makes the crust more like filler. Chicken sandwich had zero flavor to it and the nacho platter had deep fried chips dripping with grease which I suppose would be ok if there weren't a bunch of lettuce on top of it, the grease and lettuce just doesn't go together at all. The service we received was very poor. I can understand that maybe there was some miscommunications with who was supposed to be taking care of our table but to see three other tables get sat after we arrived, all get waited on and get their food ahead of us and turning the stop into an over an hour long ordeal made the whole experience beyond irritating. I highly doubt this review will change anything from their end and I'm sure regulars who are familiar with the place know what they are in for, but for anyone passing through looking for a decent meal, keep on going, not worth it. read more
