Boise Bodega is right next to my hotel which was the Sparrow, and the Sparrow Hotel was immaculate…read more like weirdly clean. so that already set the tone for the day. walked into the bodega and immediately noticed everything was laid out very intentionally. not in a fancy way, just in a way that made sense. cheaper stuff first, then normal priced stuff, then the more expensive stuff. i liked that because it let me mentally commit to how much money i was about to spend before i actually spent it. felt respectful. the guy running the place had immaculate vibes. calm. friendly. not doing too much. he was wearing a UCLA sweatshirt which caught my eye because i've got family members who go there. i asked him if he went to UCLA. he said no, but he's reppin it for me. that made me laugh and honestly set the mood for the rest of the visit. whole place felt super chill. no rush. no weird energy. just a solid neighborhood spot that knows exactly what it is. grabbed what i needed and left in a better mood than when i walked in, which is not something i can say about most convenience stores. liked it enough that when i got back home i actually told people about this place, which i almost never do. usually i forget places the second i leave them. would go back. good store. good guy. good system.

Two sentences in their marketing mix suggest their story. On their window is this: "No fake food allowed." On their take way bag is this: "Any easier and we'd chew it for you." Ta dum. WHAT IT IS: Being unsure how to describe the business in a Yelp summary, I sat on my fingers for a while. Then I read that they consider themselves a "farm fresh convenience store" and I thought that is perfect. There's the description. WHAT'S IN A NAME: The name is a composite of color and powerful, copow. The owners' philosophy healthy food seems to be, in part, that eating the rainbow is a good thing. That's my lane too. WHY I'M A FAN: Three visits in and it makes me want to sing, apologies to Etta James, "At last, my convenience eats have come along..." This because I am one of "those" who wants to know where the food I'm going to eat comes from and what is in it (you know that comedy bit in Portlandia, "Tell me about the chicken", yep, that's me) so I almost never buy convenience meals. This place is the sweet spot because during my first visit in when I asked about the source for the chicken in one of the first entrees I bought (apricot balsamic glazed chicken with spaghetti squash and oven roasted tomatoes ), the nice woman helping me could tell me about their regenerist practices, pasture raised growers for chicken and beef and answer all of my other ingredients questions. If you don't know the Portlandia bit, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErRHJlE4PGI ) WHAT THEY HAVE: Refrigerated entrees and snack items ready to take away to heat, a curated selection of grocery package good items from top end vendors (like outstanding pickled veg from Pacific Pickle Works in Santa Barbara and POPPED brand artisan popcorn out of Tucson), some frozen grocery foods, and also a coffee bar. The take away items are made at their main facility in Northern Idaho and the Boise store's selection is restocked every Friday. ACCESSIBILITY: A usable ramp up to get in the door. One spot of ADA compliant parking across the parking lot. Inside has ample clear floor space between aisles. I didn't check the loo. The coffee counter is not ADA compliant as it is all high seating. ADA is a 36 year old civil rights law and requires that IF you are offering seating for customers then some of it must be at accessible height for equal access. DELIVERY?: I think delivery of the meals is being considered. Since it is a considerable drive from my front door to theirs, if they delivered meals, I would buy more often. THIS N THAT: * On Saturdays there are in-store specials that change every week. For example, $2 off any purchase. *If you're here then you're not far from great local bakery Glutonia and it is so worth stopping there for bread or pastries. She sent me here. She did not do me wrong. Nothing fancy, just a nice little café on the inside. Unfortunately I didn't write down my server's name, but she was very friendly and helpful. They have a decent size menu of breakfast items, burgers, salads, sandwiches, etc. I decided to go simple with the grilled chicken, provolone sandwich. It had grilled chicken, provolone, and fresh spinach. It also came with a garlic aïoli. A simple sandwich, but it was excellent. The chicken was grilled very well, it was moist and tender. It came on a very good quality bun I liked the provolone, and the spinach was a nice touch. I much prefer spinach instead of lettuce, and this went very well with the sandwich. The garlic aïoli was creamy, and I could definitely taste the garlic. Just an overall excellent sandwich. I chose tots with my sandwich, they were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, not greasy at all, and they came with a fantastic fry sauce I was able to finish the sandwich and about half of my tots, the other half came back with me. They do, however, offer different kinds of candy and mixed nut snacking combinations, which makes browsing interesting. Expect prices to be a little on the higher side. The peanut butter, for example, was about $9 for a regular-sized jar. Bonus, they are liberal with the samples.
