HPM applies a lot of soft touches on their administrative side. These include compliant electronic signaturing for documentation (i.e. contracts, quotes, etc.) and a personalized web page where the customer can check on the progress of the job via daily updates from the workers. All nice things; however, there is a big disconnect with this side of the business and the actual construction work part of the business.
Communication is often times rushed or responses are delayed, so this causes some things to be missed. Certain pieces of materials which were supposed to be supplied by HPM were not provided, like the ceiling vent covers (this is no big deal, but the price I paid was supposed to include those things). I sent a detailed email in advance on January 13th, 2021 with a run down on what I was supposed to buy on my end, just trying to double check on the things that (I) was supposed to supply vs. what they were supposed to supply, I got no reply to that email, so, I was not surprised when certain things that should have been supplied, instead needed to be purchased. Nicky gave me the wrong measurements and had me order way more tile than I needed for the job. But, again, I was like, no worries, I will just use the tile in the bathroom in the basement too.
Demolition starts, while the demo went well, all the way down to the walls and the floor, but while I would have expected that the pro would inspect the materials that were purchased to make sure that they were in good condition, no one did. So 5 days or so in we find out that the shower walls were damaged. This meant that new shower walls would need to be purchased and sent (this would result in a delay in the job). Had the materials been inspected at the start of the job, the walls could have been ordered while the demo was underway.
The job was delayed a few days to wait for the shower walls to arrive, however, when it was time for work to resume, the original professional did not return to resume the work, and HPM sent someone else to pick up where he left off.
Drop cloths were not used, my stairs are ruined and will have to be repainted. It also appears that several 3rd party type contractors were used for portions of the job, like the plumbing. These people came in and set my toilet in on a lean towards the back. When I mentioned this to Nicky, I was told that they were not finished and the gap would be filled in. They filled the gap in with some type of sealer, but with the toilet tilted to the back so when we sat on it, we could literally feel it. Again I mentioned that this was wrong, I was told that my this was the way my old toilet was and that my floor was not level. This was a problem because HPM demo'd my floor in order to add the new tile, so if, the floor was not level, it was due to their work. I told them that my old toilet was not like this, and that someone needed to fix it. This led to another conversation with the "construction manager" who basically tried arguing me into agreeing that the toilet was level. Before the conversation was over, I was literally yelling.
He then comes to the house, and checks the toilet and says finally that the toilet was not level, but, he, they, were still holding on to their assertion that the toilet was not level because there was something wrong with my floor (that they installed).
The plumbers they used, did not install the faucet I purchased, and instead said that it was "wrong" and could not be installed, they had me go out and get another faucet, but left before they even installed the new faucet. My husband then came home and installed the original faucet. They had me buy another one for nothing. These people set the shower doors wrong, so that the doors were literally spewing water out on to the floor. (HPM came back to fix this, but, again, I would not have expected this).
The paint was great everywhere you could see it. However, there was no paint applied to the edges of the doors, or the inside of the linen closet door. I had to finish it myself. (this should not have been the case since I paid for painting).
Throughout ALL of this there was this issue of the floor installation. The concrete tile was installed and was damaged during the installation. The tile was stained, cracked in places, the edges were ragged and cracked and the tile was dull instead of white. They came to inspect it, after I complained and agreed to replace some of the tiles, (not the whole floor). They replaced some of the tiles, but the floor still looks terrible. When I spoke to Nicky about this, she indicated that cement tiles do look somewhat "rustic". I was floored.
After multiple attempts on their part to correct the damage they inflicted to the floor, they finally came again to inspect the floor and it was decided that they would replace the whole floor and also resituate the toilet. However, they wanted to wait until my other contractors had finished with my basem read more
