Would have been nice to also prebook my seat. The cinema needed a vacuum and a clean as it seems they just played back to back movies. The thing that saved the rating was it was almost empty so finding seats wasn't difficult. All in all a reasonable experience. Lost a star due to cleanliness on the night and not being able to prebook my seat after paying a premium.

Because event cinemas has been around for a long time, it's refreshing to visit their brand new theatre which is at Top Ryde. Opened only recently inside the Top Ryde Shopping centre, it has a much cleaner and polished impression. What makes it special is that it is NSW's first fully digital complex. The seats are all brand new and the carpet is stain-free! (Yes, I am obsessed with cleanliness and this matters to me) Event Cinemas at Top Ryde has all the usual Event favourites like candy bar, gold class lounge, 3D in VMax screens and a new VMax bar. The Bar is just gorgeous! It is aesthetically designed and looks very sophisticated and glamorous. The cafe food served is quite good. Much better than the food court food available in the mall. If you sign up online, show your card while making a booking to receive points. Usually every 100 points guarantees you a free movie, but sometimes Events offers free movies for just 50 points!

The lounge area is decorated beautifully complete with vintage movie posters and memories from the cinematic ghosts of the past. The cinema foyer is indeed beautiful, complete with gorgeous ceiling lighting. The cinema is in the historic Paddington Town Hall building and locals petitioned to keep this building open when it temporarily shut its door a few years back. The cinema has two rooms. They aren't as big as the other cinemas but if your after something different this is the place to go. They offer more arty films so think films that would be show at film festivals such as Cannes or Sundance.

Just 7 months later the Chauvel reopened to a passion equivalent to if it had been closed for years. The Chauvel remains an important part of our cultural landscape, with the foyer refurbished innovatively using recycled toilet pipes as chandeliers (I like to think they are not literally recycled but remnants or off-cuts!) and a fabulous programme of new arthouse releases, film festivals, and cult cinema nights. They sometimes throw a band on in the foyer if its in keeping with the film that's screening. Grab a drink at the bar and sit on the balcony if you can get a spot, and thank the Palace cinema chain for restoring the Chauvel to its' former glory.

But when I was getting fitted for the wardrobe for that ad, I found myself at Dawes Point on Hickson Road and this is where the story begins... I got to the location early for two reasons. Reason number one: I prefer to be forty minutes early rather than five minutes late and thus I always, when possible, leave at my earliest convenience. Reason number two: As I'll be trying on various clothing options, I don't want to be sweaty and as I have ridden my bicycle down, will need a moment and bathroom sink to freshen up in before the fitting. I park my bike and walk into the Sydney Dance Company bar and cafe. It's a cool piano bar attached to the school of dance, the views are of the wharf and the sound of music echoes through the corridors adjacent to the seating. I order at the bar and take my seat. Laptop out, thinking cap on, I try and get some work done. The coffee arrives and I sip on it tentatively, as I write and watch the various actors and dancers walking into auditions and coming back out again. I finish my coffee and go to the bathroom to get ready to head to the fitting. The doors to the dance halls are slightly a jar, and as I walk past I can see the occasional room full of pirouetting students and teachers in spandex. I've always wished that I could dance.

During the day, Sydney Dance Lounge is a casual 'grab your sandwich and drink from the fridge' cafe, catering to dancers, actors, production teams, kids in workshops and mum's waiting for their triple-threat child prodigies. Come nightfall, the lounge gains an air of elegance as diners come by for pre-theatre dinner and drinks. The lounge is dark, ambient and classy with beautiful furnishings and the food is nice too. Also, it's lovely to be able to dine near the theatre, not having to worry about making it to the doors in time. The Lounge maintains a relaxed and not at all intimidating atmosphere, aided by their great team of staff - friendly and perky, many of them work in the industry of the those they're serving. The coffee is quite good (Toby's Estate) and it appears that great minds think alike, as Sydney Dance Lounge boasts a list of regulars unlike any other cafe in Sydney - within half an hour on my last visit I coffeed with Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Sorkin on stage was always going to see me with a big grin on my face, so of course I left with very rosy feelings towards this theatre. The venue itself feels intimate and beloved. The staff behind the bar double as ushers and everyone seems keen for you to have a good night. And you're in Newtown, so pre-theatre dinner or a post-show supper are just too easy to come by! So while Sorkin initially won me over, I'll definitely be coming back to the New Theatre.

Came in and a really cool band was playing on stage. We checked in with the lady at the bar and sat down. The place had a cool old vibe. The bathroom was newly painted and fairly clean. After about 15 minutes, there was an announcement that the play would start soon. We queued up and went to our seats. The stairs up to the chairs were a bit wobbly. The chairs were comfy, nothing flash. Overall a cool venue. Close by to St Peter's Train Station.
