Dr Matin literally saved my life after another doctor failed to appropriately diagnose me from…read moreseeing me in the ER to three days as an inpatient. Not only did the first doctor NOT diagnose me correctly, he didn't even know the correct specialists to consult with, when he couldn't figure it out himself. (By the way, it really wasn't a 'strange' diagnosis - it should have been caught on Day 1 in the ER by that doctor, or even by simply taking another look at my radiology films). As a result of waiting out three inpatient days, very heavily drugged due to the pain, Dr Matin somehow ended up at my bedside on Day 3 and was left with a 'garbage' patient who was on their way to checking out of this life. I was immediately taken to surgery and what he found should have been diagnosed before it had reached the point of the serious complications that then had. In fact, this is a diagnosis that a first year med student could have easily diagnosed. Dr Matin later told my family that had I waited just one more hour, they would have been making my funeral plans. I will never forget this surgeon. He is one of a kind and i am here today because of him. (As an aside, he also has a wild sense of humor and the best bedside manner). If i could give him 10-stars i would. Interestingly, my adult son who had been seeing 4-5 physicians over approximately 15years for chronic, debilitating and sporadic abdominal pain that nobody could figure out. They removed his appendix (no help). They removed his gall bladder (still no help). They did studies (for GERD, etc) - still he suffered. He was then sent to a pain control clinic where he was prescribed numerous addicting pain medications. He got high as hell (and unfortunately, addicted) - but he still had pain. When he visited me from out of state, i recommended he see Dr Matin. Within 10minutes of seeing my son in his office, my son was diagnosed with bilateral intestinal hernias. Into surgery he went, had the hernias reduced and my son has been pain free since then. (He is also recovering from his pain med addiction and has been clean for over 10years). What more can i say? I would consider Dr Matin a miracle-maker. I suppose it doesn't get any better than that, does it?

We recommend that if you have this procedure you take epsom salt baths and sleep with a heating pad for a couple of days. It really helped with his recovery.

I raised these concerns at multiple follow-up visits but was repeatedly told everything was "on plan" and that I was "right on trajectory," without any guidance or plan to address the numbness. My concerns were not reflected in my medical records as discussed during appointments. When symptoms did not improve, I sought out another physician on my own in an effort to regain feeling. While there was brief initial interest, there was no follow-up or coordination of care. A year later, I still do not have normal sensation and continue to experience considerable nerve pain. I have since transferred care to a highly regarded orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon, who is now evaluating whether a nerve injury may have occurred. My experience was that when complications arose, I did not feel supported or guided through next steps. I would encourage patients to ask detailed questions about post-operative complications and follow-up care before proceeding. I would not return for care.
