The parts and services department went out of their way to help us. We got there just after 5 and the door was locked however Dana noticed our distress and opened back up. He then spent over 20 minutes helping diagnose our stovetop problem and came up with an excellent solution! Excellent costumer service and we so appreciated it. I called Howard Hughes service department yesterday because our washing machine -- a brand they carry -- just started leaking rather badly so I inquired about a repair. The man I spoke with very rudely told me they don't do repairs if they didn't sell the appliance to the customer (the machine came with the house, we have no idea where it came from). He didn't bother to ask me what the problem was or suggest that we might need a replacement which could have helped him make a sale. We made some inquiries and brought in a plumber who determined the machine indeed needs to be replaced. Which we will do right away -- from a competitor down in Lewiston. And we decided to buy a matching dryer, too. Sorry, Howard Hughes, you just lost a sale because of your service rep. So much for trying to support local businesses. read more

About 2 years ago I bought a very expensive memory foam mattress by "mlily" from Howard Hughes. I want to buy another, as I need a larger size and it is without a doubt the best mattress I have ever owned. Went in yesterday to get a price and spoke to one of the owners who said they no longer carried the product and that the company had gone out of business. He was quite specific. Bummer. Except, he totally lied. Mlily is still very much in business and still making the mattress I want to purchase. Why would a business owner do that? He didn't even really try to sell me on another mattress. Thanks for being a liar. I will never set foot in your business again. Next time just tell the truth and say you stopped carrying that brand. Oh, and expect a call from Mlily as well. They were very surprised to learn they were out of business and quite annoyed that you were spreading that misinformation. read more

Howard Hughes is a great place to shop for appliances such as washing machines, refrigerators, ovens, and so on. They have big green eggs, televisions, and beds as well. Their customer service is five stars because of the way they treat their customers before and after the purchase. Personally I've never bought beds or two televisions here, but I can tell you about ovens, washers, dryers, and refrigerators. Their quality is outstanding if you follow what they say and get items of recommendation. They will tell you what the cheapest item is, best value item, and the highest end item. They will tell you the pros and cons of different models and try to help you find out what you need based on your requirements and preferences. There are new items you will never have a problem with. The used items or not so good. Do not buy anything used here as everything I've bought used has stopped working within about a year or two. Their ovens are outstanding - I personally recommend the stainless steel convection whirlpool version. The washer and dryer set I bought here two and a half years ago are still working perfectly. Their selection is amazing for a town the size of Moscow. Their prices are fair and generally affordable for most homeowners. For example a nice stainless steel oven I bought here was $1,000 and the washer and dryer set I bought here that were top of the line happened to be only $1,600. The employees will immediately come over to help you if they see you walk in the store. The manager is awesome - he truly knows how to run a good business. They hold true to any service contracts, any fine print, or deals that they give you. It's fairly easy to get decent parking outside the store. The store is clean, organized, and well-lit. They organize their appliances from cheapest to most expensive so you can easily find something within your budget. It's very quiet store with very few other customers at the time you are in there. Overall this place deserves four stars. I am deducting star due to the substandard used items. read more

I shopped at Howard Hughes for a dishwasher because they are the only Moscow retailer who sells Bosch. This was my first purchase from them, however I have stopped in a few times in the past to inquire about other brands which, it turns out, they don't carry (such as Wolf). The sales people are friendly and try to be helpful, but they really don't have any product knowledge. It was up to me to do my product research and learn the features and benefits of each model, then choose one and ask them to order it. Their prices are not competitive. They ask full MSRP on everything. I asked for a better price in order to shop local, and they agreed to take $100 off, which was still higher than prices at bigger retailers (and would have required a drive to Spokane). It is nice that they provide installation, but it does cost extra. I think this is normal. The installation itself seemed to go smoothly, but the first time I tried to run the dishwasher it could not get any water. This required a service call to Howard Hughes, and they sent someone immediately to re-install it correctly. Altogether, I'd say that Howard Hughes is probably the best appliance store in Moscow, but if Largent's were located here I would shop with them. read more

I have bought many appliances, TV's and mattresses from Howard Hughes in Moscow. Their prices are very competitive and they have their own service department which no other stores in Moscow have. They have always been willing to match a lower price on something that I found elsewhere in their shopping area. They know their stuff and sales people are very friendly and helpful. In fact I still have a Bosch dishwasher that I bought from them 20 years ago and is still going plus my Whirlpool washer and dryer are almost as old and never had a service call. The only thing I wish they were open on Sundays. read more

Called Howard Hughes a couple times as my dryer wasn't working properly - every time I chatted with them they were friendly, professional, and efficient. I ended up choosing them to come out and take a look at my dryer, and Mitch came today to look through everything. He was personable and easy to talk to. His work was thorough and he knew what he was doing; refreshing to have a maintenance call that wasn't trying to sell little old college me a new appliance or try to overcharge my pocket book. I will call Howard Hughes back out for my appliance needs in the future. They were fabulous! read more

Appliance selection is really good and the floor sales staff are very helpful. The repair technicians are fair, if you reckon it took 4-trips to keep a dryer from walking (and it still does, $80 x 4 = $320 for nothing). Or, one trip to check on the kitchen range, did not bring parts (ok, had to order them), that cost more than a new one. $80 service call to tell me it needed a very expensive part $450 + $160 in service calls charge. No thanks. Would rather use a local appliance store because $10/mile seems just a tad outrageously expensive for unsuccessful attempts to repair or fix service problems. read more

We love to buy local. We've been trying to do as much for the 12 years we have lived in Moscow. We've bought a dishwasher, stove, washer/dryer set, and a brand new, stainless $2500 refrigerator from them since we've been here. The refrigerator was bought 5 years ago. It broke right before Christmas and they sent a repair man out who actually isn't qualified to diagnose our type of refrigerator. Needless to say, they wanted to charge $85 for the 15 minute "diagnoses" and a flat rate of $850 to replace the compressor (which is still covered by warranty). When I called to ask why it would cost so much to replace a warrantied part, the tech basically said that it could take 1-4 hours and that's the price. When asked why they sell POS that break within 5 years, he said that there's an "acceptable" amount of appliances that will fail before they should. So, not only are they selling pieces of crap, they'll only stand by them if we pay the $850 flat rate. Not sure how they've stayed in business. Take care of your customers! read more

I purchased a Bosch dishwasher in September. They said it would arrive in 1 to 2 weeks. Thru a series of misadventures on their part (lost i shipping) I finally received it 4 1/2 weeks later. About a month or so of use, and trying every cycle it had, I still could not get all of my dishes dry nor all of the silverware clean. I always clean my filter after every use. I bought a maintenance agreement in case something like this happened. I called the store, talked to the manager and asked if I could have a tech come and check the heater, he suggested that I not rinse my dirty dishes, put them in as is and not use a rinse agent. Also, put the cleaning tablet directly into the washer, not in the detergent cup. Tried all that, I still have to leave the door open for a day, so everything will dry and I also have to wipe the residue and spots off my silverware. I bought a maintenance agreement so this wouldn't happen. I fear that I wasted a $150.00. At least Sears will send a tech when you need them to check something. I do not think I will ever buy another appliance from H.H.. Only saving grace, Bosch dishwashers are very quiet, but, I could have bought one anywhere. read more
