I took a chance to buy tickets for this one night show coming from NEw York city from performers and founders, Jen Jamula and Allison Goldberg that was held at the Wework office. This was nice interactive show where audience participation is mandatory for the show to work where people share their breakup texts and those that do get a free shot! It's pretty amazing what people say to break up. Some are hilarious , while some are just what on earth did that come from?! Is this guy coming out of an 18th century novel because who talks or texts that way?! All in all it was an entertaining show and it came with wine ! Bottoms up for those bad dates where you need to laugh it up or drink up to was away the bad memories! They did use one Viral text breakup they found on the web that went viral and showed us it on the screen while they read it out. Allison's show is an energetic tour de force into relationships and dating, filled with laughs and excitement and insights into how (not) to break up by text. The night was full of raucous laughter, hilarity, and yes, shock and amazement at how some people behave. Fortunately, the shaming is done with minimal malice and maximum realness. We're all flawed, but we can be better, and How To Break Up By Text does a great job at not just acknowledging that, but living it and showing us how. Highly recommended! read more

Jen an Alli are hilarious. The audience was able to submit their break up texts (incentivized with green shots) and Jen and Alli acted them out and analyze them. They're girls you wouldn't mind grabbing dinner with to hear about their latest relationship issues. The both funny and relatable and aren't over the top like some comedians. They also didn't push people too hard to be "interactive." They know when to back off and made everyone feel comfortable with them, including sharing their own embarrassing break up texts. The theater itself is pretty intimate. There's two levels with seating, on chairs that aren't too comfortable. There's a bar in the front where you can hang out before or after the show and get a drink. Everyone seemed to have a good time and the audience was very involved throughout the show. My only issue, which is probably unavoidable with all stand up comedy shows, was one of the audience members we were seated next to. He was obnoxious and drunk and started yelling irrelevant things out. Overall, the show was entertaining and provided us with an hour of laughs. read more

The show blended together improv, audience interaction, drinking games, dating therapy, and screenshots of the most entertaining break up texts. Very original. Heard about the show from a friend who'd seen a prior installment, and went in with a pretty high expectation. I definitely wasn't disappointed. Hearing the text conversations performed out loud was hilarious alone. Plus, having a good, energetic audience definitely enhanced the performance. Being allowed to make comments and add input kept you intrigued and eagerly anticipating what's next! They even started the show by having the whole audience stretch and do vocal warmups to open the participation flood gates. True to form, one of the audience member's submissions was one of the most funny and outrageous "Text message break ups" of the whole night. Single and looking or not, I think it is a fun and actually informative show that I'd definitely recommend. read more

This is honestly one of the smartest, funniest, most entertaining live shows. They have the audience laughing out loud the entire time. Audience members can even send in break-up texts during the show and they'll act them out on the spot. Their wit, humor, candor, and pretty spot-on relationship advice is refreshing and hilarious. We had a small group attend the show / it was just basically 45-50 min where two single girls read real txt message breakups outloud. At $15+fees we thought it was really expensive for what it is. Also they give out shots to people who txt them more breakup texts. We had a few laughs but were overall disappointed in the whole thing. read more

Saw this last week for a date (bold move), and it turned out great. The bits are short-form reenactments of actual breakups by text followed by analysis and jokes. It's a great topic that's ripe for humor, something most of us can shamefully relate to. The breakups they reference are the best (worst?) of the worst, but the humor never feels mean-spirited. Plenty of laughs, but the big win for me was that we stayed at the bar and talked about dating etiquette after. I love getting to see a live show that you actually want to talk about and discuss after. Only downside? Don't be alone with a date, you'll be too scared to share you own stories on stage. Be ready to get involved; seems like the people having the best times were all the ones participating. read more

This show was so freaking funny. In my opinion, there is a drought of funny and raw talent in San Francisco. I'm not sure if tech has drained the arts scene but it was a breath of fresh air to see Alli perform real break up texts to a sold out crowd. The way she delivered the texts and also incorporated some improv makes me want to come back again and again. No two show will ever be the same and I can only imagine the back log of break up texts she has to perform! Loved my Friday night experience! I have been to several Blogologues shows and saw that Alli and Jen would be leading this one so I signed up. Really didn't know what to expect - definitely not like a Blogologues show but laughter and fun was the outcome and Alli and Jen did not disappoint. These two always find the weirdest and craziest things on the internet and then act them out. This show allowed more audience participation and focused specifically on the reality and sad world of dating apps and inappropriate communication via text. I would definitely encourage others to check it out - if you ever had a weird text interaction or if a friend has ever sent you their weird text interaction, bring it and see how Alli and Jen bring it to life! read more

Alli does a masterful job guiding the audience through the outrageous world of dating with jaw dropping realness. The show begins with her disarming standup, and really gets moving when the audience begins submitting their own cringe-worthy text breakups (and you know we've all got them). "How To Break Up By Text" is a great commentary on modern relationships and how we communicate in the digital age. Something like if Emily Post and Sean Rad made a "Dating for Dummies" guide. As an antidote to a blue moment, I checked out "How To Break Up By Text" with a dear friend. Their humor was the perfect medicine, and quickly got me out of my slump. There are drinking games that make the show interactive, and Jen & Alli draw out some true confessions that guarantee each show will be a unique experience. Go. Take a friend. Take a date. This is the best show I've seen in a very long time, including broadway. It's funny, relatable and Allie makes it fun! It's someone everyone in the audience has been through at some point or will go through. Allie has an amazing way to create audience interaction and engagement while ensuring the audience is having fun. Found the "How to Break Up By Text" show last fall totally by accident, just searching for something fun to do, and it was so great that we went back again in January. Alli & Jen have a terrific energy level and great timing, and the topic is certainly full of comedic possibilities. Contrary to another review, they emphatically do not just read the texts (though even that part is pretty funny), they also dissect what people are saying, where these crazy statements could be coming from, and what to say and not to say, and it's all hilarious for adults of all ages and orientations. We haven't gotten to Blogogues yet but definitely will be heading there soon! Strongly recommended -- "honestly"!! read more

I had a great night at How to Break Up by Text. Allison is a brilliant and hilarious performer, and not only did I laugh continuously, I was also horrified (in a good way) about the awful, shocking and depraved things (again, in a good way) that weirdos out there have texted to other members of the audience. Allison choreographs a momentum with the audience where we are swept into a Greek chorus of commiseration, and everyone wants to share a text or story of their own. (I recommend you do this, but actually have a text message to read). This was a surprisingly cathartic experience - I would rank it with the euphoric depersonalization of the mosh pit at your favorite punk band's show when you're still too young to not have sharpie X's on your hands. The modern world is a bizarre, sick place (but in a fun and entertaining way) and Allison's show reveals the depths of what is actually happening out there. Just a great way to spend your Saturday night - I've seen it twice already and have tickets for the next show. read more
