Hollywood Fringe Festival August 12-29, 2021 used Broadwater Stage Two:
Producer Yukari Black & Director Tomoko Karina create Shizuka, a Japanese love story that is a dramatic historical play in the 12th century at a pivotal time in Japan, when Imperial Japan of the classical Heian period transitions into over 700 years of Shōgun dominated Medieval rule.
Civil war between the Minamoto and Taira clans to control Japan at the same time wresting political power from the Emperor Gō Shirakawa & the aristocracy creates chaos and confusion, betrayal, death.
Shizuka and Yoshitsunè Minamoto fall in love, but his older brother, the head of the victorious Minamoto clan, feels threatened by loyal, younger brother, Yoshitsunè, whom he banishes and eventually kills. Shizuka is spared, but the sundering of their love brings nothing but misery for Shizuka. They both die never to be united again in life.
Great production that illuminates an interesting historical love story set at a time when the Emperor loses power and power is taken over by the Shōgun, head of a military system similar to the Medieval period in Europe.
