After purchasing my 1st pair of skates on April 20, 2021, I was super excited to check out every rink & park Houston has to offer. Just Rolling isn't too far from me; however, it's my least favorite rink. I've been 3 times. My 1st and 2nd visit was for a meet up or celebration. The 3rd time was for me to break my new skates in AND because it was suppose to be R&B night!!! I love R&B music, but I don't think the DJ is a fan of it. He played twerk & rap most of the time, so I don't plan to return on Wednesday. Also, most rinks turn their lights off to set the rink vibe. I'm not sure why HJR leave their lights on. It destroys the vibe & decreases the fun. If skaters wanted bright light they could skate for free outside. I'll probably try their Adult Night one Sunday, but it's 18 & up. Hopefully it's a different DJ. I prefer the 21 & up Adult Nights at other rinks around town. I gave HJR 3-stars because it has potential to be better & the rink is a nice size. read more

The music selection is awesome if you like Hip Hop and R&B. They play new school and old. They have a snack bar and lockers. Cute set up. Only thing I didnt like were the advanced skaters not having any respect for the slower skaters even though the dj announces over and over to skate on the outside. Two teens were horse playing in front of me and fell and before I knew it, I fell on top of them and ended up cutting my finger somehow. They didn't even apologize. Not the rinks fault, their parents. Overall, I would go and bring the kids on a weekday when its not so busy with the "fancy/crazy" skaters. read more

This was my second visit to Houston Just Rolling. I actually had my 30th birthday party here years ago and really enjoyed myself but for one reason or another I never had the opportunity to come back. Spring Break was the perfect timing, or so I thought. This place truly is hidden. The turn-off is right past the Telephone light and the ramp that overpasses Mykawa. There is no big, lit sign so you have to get in your righthand lane and drive slowly so you won't miss it. The building says Jumping Zaxx but if you follow the signs posted to the back of the building, you will find HJR. This first thing you'll notice is that the parking lot isn't paved. I'm finding this in a lot of places lately so it didn't bother me too much. Once you walk inside there is a metal detector that you have to walk through. Now this caught me off guard because it wasn't there when I visited previously. It immediately put me on edge and put a dark cloud over the visit. I began to wonder what type of activities had taken place for them to feel the need to put in a metal detector at a skating rink. Everyone has to pay to get in, skating or not. We went during the week and it was $8/person. Inside, this is probably the largest skating rink I've ever been to. The rink itself and the entire area. It's very spread out and there is plenty of seats and tables for people to sit out. There are three sectioned off areas that stands as "party rooms" and many games throughout the building. There is a separate, smaller rink for kids but mostly kids just skated on the big rink. This immediately made me notice one big thing that was missing that I remember from my childhood of going skating every weekend. There was no referee. They desperately needed someone there to keep the little kids from skating in the wrong direction, to quickly get people up who had fallen, and to make sure the slower skaters stayed to the outside lane. All of those things really made for a frustrating skating experience and since they were only open from 7pm-10pm, every minute counted. I will say that there was decent music being played. The DJ booth was empty most of the night so it was going off of a playlist but the cool thing was that there were large screens around the room that played music videos as the songs played. There were pool tables and arcade games around the room. The snack bar seemed to have a decent variety of items as well. I liked the couches and soft cushioned seating that was spread around the room. One last thing. There is carpet in the bathroom, which is the weirdest thing and probably not very sanitary. It goes right up to the stall door and stops right before the sinks but still, very odd. All in all I'll probably return since skating rink options are slim, but not for a while to let the bad taste fade from my mouth. read more

What a lucky find! Had it not been for the rain and our regular rink being closed on a Wednesday night we would have never discovered this hidden gem. Yes, it is slightly more expensive than other skating establishments. $8.00 per person on the slow weeknights even if you are not skating so just strap those wheels on! It's a great workout. Weekend prices range from $10 to $12. The rink is king-sized, biggest I've seen frankly. There is also a miniature rink to the side. For the little ones who tend to get in the way and trip those of us who have no control of where we are going. This is a major perk! Don't get me wrong, I still fell with no one in the rink. I have bruises to prove it but I rolled as far as I needed to without causing anyone else damage. I can also tell people the rash on my knees is rink rash. Concession stand available, plenty of sitting, birthday party VIP sections, fantastic DJ area, and the walls are covered in art. I particularly enjoyed the two screens showing the music videos. Earlier I said it was a hidden gem. Heads up! It's in obscure area. Looks like there is nothing around but the Highway, beltway 8. No signs showing you it's there, first it looks like you are coming up to a warehouse business. Directly on the warehouse you will notice Jumping Zaxx. Don't miss the entrance go in there, and follow a lengthy line of small signs to the very back of the property. I am telling you, you won't regret it, but I might letting everyone know what you are missing out on. I enjoy things that are mine, all mine, but we need this place to stay open! I enjoyed myself at this rink. It was a little hard to find as it's kind of tucked away behind a soccer field. The music was nice, could've been better but it was mix of current R&B songs. The skating floor was a good size and also felt nice. There is smaller rock off to the side for children and beginners. It wasn't super crowded, but we went on a Thursday night. They have a wall to take pictures which is where I took the ones below. O my negative I have to say is that it's pretty far from me. It's located on the southeast side of town, near Hobby airport. Pros: Black owned. Huge rink, the whole place is spacious. Decent music. Cons: Upon entering you must walk thru a metal detector and an officer searches your belongings... at a skating rink! They make you pay to simply enter... no skating required. $12 for me to sit and watch my kids skate. Smells odd BIGGEST issue for me. There was just an overall lack of customer service from staff. So there's apparently a dress code & I as a pretty young thing, came in jeans & a spaghetti strap shirt my stomach was only out a little since I had on high waisted jeans & one of the owners or cashier with her Claire from the Bill Cosby show looking ass, decided in her opinion my shirt was inappropriate. This is probably the best roller skating rink I've been to in Houston. My husband and I went on a Wednesday night around 7:30 to 9. The place itself was kind of hard to find because there was no outside sign lit up to show where it was from the feeder road, and on top of that it was in the VERY back of the building that we had to drive around to on incredibly uneven roadway (this sounds terrible, but trust me it's so worth it!). There were only about six or seven people there as well, which was good at the time because my husband is a beginner skater and didn't want everyone to witness him falling all the time (spoiler! It only happened once!). I hope it does end up picking up because we had a fantastic time and want this place to stick around. I brought my own skates, but Husband Man used the rental quads, which seemed to be in very good condition. The music was A++++. Not your traditional skating rink music at all. They played a mix of really great 70s disco, r&b, and some modern top 40 songs that don't make you want to bleed from your ears. We didn't try anything at the snack bar because we had eaten beforehand (and also I'm vegan, and a bag of Fritos tastes the same no matter where you get them). I'd recommend budgeting a few dollars for a drink, though, as their water fountain was either at a trickle or trying to blow my eye out via the force and height of the water pressure. The overall place (and restrooms!) are very clean, the lockers worked, and I absolutely love the comfy seating around the rink. The staff were very friendly as well. IN CONCLUSION this place is amazing and I can't wait to return. If you haven't tried it yet, I'd definitely recommend giving this place a shot. read more

This was place is POORLY managed and extremely unorganized. You would think they were well-put-together because of the way they've enhanced the place, but it's just lipstick on a pig. We tried to support this business because it's black owned, but NOW I understand why black businesses don't prosper! The rules are $12 for everyone who enters, this includes skate rental. I booked a party for my child at 7pm and according to their contract they will provide the table cloths, eating utensils, and plates. Now, since they close for two hours from 5-7 on the weekends, I called at 3 and asked them if they had the colors we needed for the tables. They only had white and pink, but my colors were black and gold. They never called to ask so they could prepare, but replied that they would have it ready and decorated when we get there. I asked if I could come set up before they close for cleaning. They told me they could only let me in 10 minutes before my party to decorate and if I wanted to have a decorator come 5 minutes before they close for cleaning, she would have to pay for entry. CLEARLY they're not used to a certain caliber of customer. When we arrived, the owners wife, a long haired elderly window attendant, had a terrible attitude with ALL of my guests. She had the same attitude with me when I signed up for the party when she told me if I wanted to use the window inside to fill out the app, I had to pay $12 to get in. I paid for 11 children to enter after they were rudely handled by her. It's my understanding that adults are expected to pay even if they don't skate. Then, the elderly woman abused her authority. I asked her why my 2 year old cousin couldn't get in free and she said the rules were children 2+ had to pay. Understood. So, I asked her why my friend's 18 month old had to pay and she said she thought the baby was two. I informed her he wasn't he said, "that's fine if the baby is under 2, but if he puts on my skates he gotta Pay!" So wait a minute, what's the rule? Are we being charged for entry or are we being charged to skate??!! If babies aren't supposed to be charged because they can't skate, why do you all have their size?? Is the rule "if we carry your size we charge" ??? Whichever is the case we need to be notified! All of the other rules are posted, why aren't these! Don't make up rules as you go! So now we have an 18 mo old that can fit skates who was charged and a 2 year old who was also charged and scared to skate! Not mentioning the 9 adults who didn't skate at all! Did we get our moneys worth? The owner pulled me to the side and asked what the issue was, but since he couldn't explain his reasoning nor his rules clearly, I ejected from the conversation so my daughter could have a good time. When I returned to the conversation at the end of the party, the owner began with his attempt at understanding what the root issue is. I began to tell him it was a snowball effect and how I had an issue with the tablecloths from the very beginning. He then cuts me off and says I need to send my daughter outside, in 60 degree weather, or into the skating rink alone while we have this conversation because a minor shouldn't be in the room while we talk about this. The police officer then pushed my child into the skating rink because according to the owner, it's a grown up's conversation and she shouldn't be hearing it. I am the parent. If I see fit for my child to be in the midst of my conversation, that's ENTIRELY ny choice. You don't send my child ANYWHERE without my permission and especially when there are adults there she does not know!! He says "THIS IS MY ESTABLISHMENT AND IF I SAY SHE DOESNT NEED TO BE HERE, SHE NEEDS TO GO!!" He took the role as a parent and then made a rule as a business owner! Who do you think you are????? Greed, terrible customer service, improper management skills, and poor business practices, and lack of professionalism will be the demise of this business. None of my 40+ guests are looking to return and that further explains why the place was slim with skaters. read more

The front window attendant/owners wife had such an unpleasant disposition I should have followed my first mind and turned around and walked out, I only stayed because I was bringing my daughter to a B-day party to celebrate with her best friend who was turning 8. Took my daughter and her friend to HJR for an evening outing on A Sunday. Was a little concerned with the unpaved parking area. The parking is terrible unless you have a handicap tag. However, the facility is very nice inside. It's clean and I really like the airbrushed decor. Everyone pays - even non-skaters which isn't really cool for parents with disabilities. It appears they have music theme nights. It was R&B night when we went. The music was super mellow...great for the 45+ crowd, but pretty boring for the young patrons I saw. Might have been better if they played popular R&B, but most of the songs I had never heard before. My daughter and friend were ready to go after an hour. There were some older seasoned looking skaters and some dude in a costume on the floor who were having a ball and entertaining us non-skaters. The snack bar had the typical snacks. Drinks are pricey and there are no refills - free or otherwise. You have to buy another drink. This might be a cool date spot for an older couple on a Sunday evening. This was my first time visiting Just rolling skating rink. The experience was cool, but compared to the rink I grew up on (Almeda Skating Rink) it could be better. Some things that I really enjoyed are the art on the walls, the lights flashing from the ceiling, and a live Dj in the building. I had a good time, but it felt like something was missing, maybe there weren't enough people in there, or maybe the concession stand needs a bar, I don't know, but something was missing. It was just skate constantly, no fun games to be played during skate time, no homey pokey being played over the speakers, the life of the rink depended solely on if people were choosing to skate or not. That's fine if you want to just be an average skating rink, but why just be average? Overall, the mission was accomplished, to go and enjoy the company of family, for my little sisters birthday party, but it could have been better, especially for $12 per person. It's a nice size, seating area is limited, wouldn't want to see what it'd look like if people were to actually pack it out, people's feet would be blistered up, but I'd return. Beautiful skating rink and the kids always enjoy themselves. The rink is pretty large and they have a smaller rink for smaller kids. The restrooms were pretty clean as well. I would love to host my daughter's birthday party here, but I can't get pass the entry cost. My issues: -Everyone has to pay the $12, even if you aren't skating. I don't know what the issue is because you have to have a wristband in order to get skates. They have to come up with a better system. -I could see entry fee for non-skaters being $5, I wouldn't mind paying that, but $12 is pretty steep -We bought the whole pizza for $16. It was not good at all. It's your cheapest frozen pizza it seems. I wouldn't host a party here because I know not all of the adults would skate, but will be charged the fee of $12. read more

I hope my previous review still remains up there while I'm revisiting my review. I want to upgrade my rating from 4 to 5 stars. After visiting several other rinks on mostly the south side of town (below I-10-ish), I realized that this is my favorite rink by a landslide. Even though I have to drive a little bit further, the quality of the floor itself alone is worth it. It is at least 2 steps ahead of the rest of skating rinks. The vibe and music are great. Awful! Awful! Awful! I had my son and daughter's birthday party here, which cost over $300, and the service was the worst I have ever received. You do not get a party host, you must host your own party! There is a metal detector upon entrance which is very unwelcoming, the security guard actually patted down my 3 year old son. The lady at front desk has to be the rudest and most unprofessional women ever! They treat you as if they are doing you a favor by allowing you in. I had to literally apologize to every guest who came and everyone was shocked by her behavior. They charge for parents of the children who did not even rent skates. When I arrived at the skating rink after fully paying for the party, I was holding a cake and so after speaking to the lady at the front desk, I told her I would put the cake down and come back. She sent the security guard after me and my daughter and yelled at me that we should not have gone back there without wristbands, although we had pre-paid. While I was talking with the extremely rude women, I felt a hand on my arm which was the security attempting to do I don't know what to me. This grown man attempted to man-handle me as if that was ok, I told him not to ever put his hands on me. I am a lady and have never in all my life had had any authority figure out their hands on me, but this is how they treat their customers. You mean nothing to them!! The rude lady was beyond disrespectful and hides behind a bulletproof glass, if I didn't know any better I wouldn't think she was in Pearland as she acts like she is behind a liquor store counter in Compton!! You are nicked and dimed for everything here, and it's overpriced. I am saddened to have to say these things as it appears this establishment is Black-owned!! I would love to support this business, but I will not tolerate how they treat their customers!! It's just so unnecessary, as this place is actually a very nice-looking establishment, but until they change the treatment of their customers this place will never get another dime from me and I will be vocal on the treatment of their customers!! My wife and I went here on our date night. It's good clean fun. We really like the atmosphere and the family that owns it. We appreciate the small rink for the people who are new and uncomfortable skating on the big rink. The price is very attractive, you can bring your entire family for a nice night out. They have a snack bar, some billiard tables, air hockey and plenty of sitting. I especially like the way the family is actively participating in the events. The only thing that could be improved is the directions to get it in. When we first arrived we parked in the front and entered the building. There is a trampoline park attached to the building, but it is separate from the skating rink. The skating rink is located behind it. Other than that, if you want to skate to great music in a safe environment, this is the place to go! read more

DO NOT SCHEDULE A PARTY FOR A CHILD!!!!A party was scheduled for a 4 year old and we were informed at the door that all parents had to pay. I typically go to parties with my children so I thought this was odd. The parents (skating or not) has to pay full price. This was a disappointment because I don't usually expect to drop 4'year olds off and allow them to go through the metal detectors alone. The customer service was horrible, the lady called security when we where questioning the rates. The parents ended up cancelling the party because of the customer service and the confusion because it wasn't noted in the contracts. The rates are expensive, security with guns and the metal detectors are scary and this place is just a NO for me. Please reconsider if you're scheduling a party for kids! They didn't try to work with us for a better experience especially because this was the day of the party. She called security and yelled deposits are non refundable. Skating rink interior is nice and clean. Exterior parking is unpaved. Basically gravel. I was there for a kid's birthday party. The dj played a few explicit songs which I thought was inappropriate for a 2-4 p.m. kid's party. As an adult bringing a child to skate for a party, they charged me $12.25 to enter. I didn't skate. I basically paid to watch kid's skate. The fee on the door says $10.00, but if you pay with a debit or credit card, is an additional $2.25. This was not discussed or disclosed prior to the swipe. I visited this site to do a little research for a skating rink to have my bday party and I was lit to find a black owned rink! BUT, as I read the party package details on the site I immediately got aggressive undertone vibes just from this one detail alone: "**THE BIRTHDAY PERSON IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR CAKE !!**" If you know anything about grammar, you would know this reads very aggressive but, I decided that might be a stretch so instead of judging too soon I went to read the reviews. WOW, just wow. My intuition is always right. I read EVERY SINGLE review on all 7 pages because I just couldn't believe it was that bad. Every negative review was spot on consistent in describing their experiences with the owner, security guard/officer and window attendant (owners wife). A 7 month old had to pay an entry fee?? An 18 month old had to pay an entry fee?? Non-skating party guests/parents have to pay full price to enter even though the birthday guest already paid $250 minimum for a package?? Vendors who are not guests have to pay the entry fee to set up?? Metal detectors?? Women being physically and verbally assaulted by security?? You can't touch the walls?? Explicit music/videos at children's bday parties?? How disheartening it felt to have to consider a non-black owned business to spend my money. I'd much rather support this business but it seems the employees here lack kindness, compassion and business etiquette. I will even go so far as to say what their patrons are experiencing is projected trauma. It's an obvious inference that can be made here. To the owner, we want to support you and your black-family-owned business, we really do. However, speaking as a customer service oriented professional (and I'm black) you must be able to compete with the level of customer service offered by your white or non-black competitors or, AT LEAST close to it. My family and I went on yesterday 2/7/2021 and only Myself and 2 of my children were skating well first you have to go through metal detectors the officer was very very rude then let's talk about the lady at the front desk just RUDE so back to skating I proceed to tell the lady that only me and my 2 kids were skating my wife my 16yr old and my 7mnth old were not skating she proceeds to say mam it's posted everywhere it's $13 per person wether they are skating or not so I'm like mam my 7month old can't even walk she says not my problem it's $13 so of course we left. Everybody screams support black businesses but look at how our own people treat us. They charge for every little thing .. you will be nickeled and dimed to death. Owner is rude and unprofessional. You are patted down and have to walk through metal detector when you enter. I am writing this review to recap the bad experience I had at the establishment known as, Houston Just Rolling Skating Rink on Sunday, November 25th, 2018. It is appalling to witness a business owner to behave in such a manner towards paying customers, but it does not beat being treated poorly yourself. An older lady that was attending to the window was VERY rude to me and several other guest, over a bottle of water. That's right, H2O!!! Are we doing that bad that we are pestering customers over water? No problem, I proceeded to walk in to help my friend bring in the decorations for her daughters birthday party and told the security guard that I'll be right back and then take the water to my car. She yells She can't take that water in there. Then asks me what am I going to do with it. I politely repeated myself and she makes another snappy remark. At this point I was in fact irritated with her behavior, I had to remind her that I was an adult because of the way she was speaking to me. I'm both shocked and disappointed in tonight's episode. I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone come here. They are greedy and very unprofessional, if you're looking to have a great time there's plenty of roller rinks that are happy to have customers like you and I alike. To the owners, if you hate what you do....maybe, find another occupation because you won't be in business much longer at the rate you're going. You cannot treat customers the way that you guys do it's unacceptable!! You'll NEVER get my business again! read more

Pros: clean, good music Cons: strange greeting experience, aggressive officer on duty, unhelpful management TL;DR: lobby experience reminiscent of a prison entryway, male off-duty police officer yelled and physically pushed a paying female customer out of the building due to his own error, and management refused to speak to the group after the altercation. 3/14/21 - a group of 11 adults came to the rink to celebrate a birthday. When entering the building we were greeted by a 10x10ft room large enough to fit 3 small families. There is a barrier along the middle with a metal detector near the end. The off-duty officer directs us, one by one, to pass through the metal detector, visually inspects our pockets and waistbands, and physically checks the bags of women. When it came time to pay ($13 each), the cashier, from behind a plexiglass window, informed us that balloons and cakes are not allowed unless it is for an authorized party. We put on our wristbands and I exited through the swing door to my left to take the party decorations back to my car, bumping into customers as I make my way out. When I returned, I attempted to return through the swing door, but was firmly stopped by the officer and told to wait to enter back through the metal detector and be checked once more for weapons and contraband. For context, I'm very familiar with the Southside, Sunnyside area. I understand how things can be, but without a doubt this is one of the most bizarre and unwelcoming ways I've ever entered a business, a family-friendly one at that. On Sundays the rink shuts down at 6pm to prep for 18+ night, so around 5:30 we return our skates to exit. Despite the weird entrance and constant skate violation interruptions from the DJ, we had a decent time. The exit is next to the entrance but is not connected to it as they are separated by a 10ft barricade that is part wall, part plexiglass (important later). The weather was cold and rainy by now, and as we exited, we were caught off guard by the cold gust. The men of the group continued to move outside, while the women went back in to put on their jackets in the warmth. This is where the day was ruined: through the door I heard yelling, and what I assumed was the DJ reprimanding a wall skater, was the officer yelling at our wives for trespassing. You could hear "get out" and "stop touching me" through the door before it opened, and when it did, I saw shock and tears on the face of my female friend. Apparently, the officer mistook the women for trespassers trying to sneak in without paying. Because the wall next to the exit is only partially plexiglass, the officer is not able to fully see the exit door. Why the exit and entrance are separate, despite intense concerns for trespassers is beyond me. After realizing his mistake (we were wearing paid wristband after all), he continued to yell, even motioning to his handcuffs threatening to arrest the women. After this, my male friend's wife went into the lobby and asked for the officer's name and badge. The officer refused and management was no help. Once more the officer told her that we were not welcome on the premises and that we must leave. Reminder: we were paying customers who were "kicked out" of the $13 skate rink 25 minutes before closing. We attempted to speak to management, but they did not wish to speak to us and were once more told to leave. In order to receive the officer's name and badge number the police were called and retrieved the information for us. We are currently filing a complaint with HPD and sadly will never return to this business with our friends and family again. So much for a birthday party. read more

There on duty officer assaulted me 2x, and pulled his handcuff saying he would arrest me. Absolutely will NEVER return. DO NOT GO. I would love to give no stars.. They are RUDE. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE.. Black owned and we really wanted to go support. We arrived to surprise our friend with cupcakes and to take her skating. They said we couldn't bring anything in and only could if we rented a table for $75. It was 8, 30 year Olds we didn't need to do all that. No big deal, we understand. You pay whether you skate or not. Again, I didn't like that but okay. You can't enjoy yourself skating because they are constantly stopping the music to police and tell people the rules. And the rules aren't due to covid or anything, it's the house rules. Over and Over. You can't enjoy the music or skating because they police everything. They will stop it until it's up to their standard. We were getting ready to leave and the officer on duty falsely accused us of sneaking people in when we all had on wrist bands, we are 30+ years old and we only stepped back inside because it was cold and needed to put our jackets on due to the temp dropping. He yelled, physically touched a woman and was super aggressive. The owner or manager just stood there. We will NEVER return. The manager/owner refused to speak with me and just told me I wasnt welcome on the property. Anyway I will be filing a report. I will never return. I can't wait until Lockwood is back open. read more

Very unprofessional staff. If you are going to hire family members perhaps you ought to train them how to interact with customers in a professional manner. Unfortunately after you interact with the owner you can see why the staff are rude. "The fish rots from the head." Great concept but poorly run. Do not waste your time and money. BAD BUSINESS Very unwelcoming establishment. First thing u see when u walk in is all the walls covered in negative signs. The woman working the window is RUDE! They charge parents $10 to enter even if they are not skating. $57 for 2 small kids (one with her own skates) 2 teens who were not skating and me, also not skating. I told her we decided not to stay and told her I would like to tell the ppl inside that we were not staying.She REFUSED and had the front door locked. I then called my friend to tell her I did not feel welcome and we were leaving. She started yelling for me and my kids to get out. Then called what looked like her husband 2 put us out. Never raised my voice or said anything rude to her. Just mad cause we did not want to pay $57 for 2 small kids to skate. They will mot be open long with this business model. read more

We almost cancelled our plans to go after reading the reviews, but I'm so glad we did not. We had a great time! Everyone working this evening was pleasant, helpful, and welcoming. I love the area reserved for novices and little ones, and the experienced skaters were a treat to watch, too. Talk about roller skating goals:)! The venue is huge, so even with a pretty large crowd it was still very enjoyable. We look forward to skating here again soon. read more

This spot is cool it's just extremely far and the rules are super strict. They don't have enough sessions and need to host an adult skate night. read more
