Winter Street Studio's after the arson attack
    Glen C.

HCE's the "go to" photography store in Houston. They're knowledgeable, keep up with current trends, yet keep darkroom supplies on hand. The latest gear is in stock and used equipment is thoroughly checked out. With few exceptions, my equipment's HCE bought, and every image that's been on exhibition in town was shot on on an HCE purchase.

Getting a tutorial (and some seriously good customer service)
    Anne-Marie B.

I echo the praises of other Yelpers - this place is amazing. I actually heard about HCE by good ol' fashioned word-of-mouth. Some friends of mine have been going here for years and highly recommended them. I recently acquired an old Nikon film camera and was having a tough time finding film and generally a human who could refresh me on all things basic film camera related. I made a Saturday appointment with HCE and was let inside promptly at my appointment time. As we know in the weird wild word of COVID-19, things are a little different than they probably were this time a year ago in terms of how they handle appointments and customers. There's a sign on their front door with a phone number that customers should call, from their car, when they arrive. They're doing primarily curbside pickup, but they do have in-store appointment times available and their safety protocols are thorough. Bernie, the film expert, was one of two people helping me (along with Angel who was equal parts hilarious and eager to assist). Everyone had on either a face shield or a mask, there were socially-distanced stations set up for each customer complete with hand sanitizer and directions. Bernie spent a considerable amount of time with me inspecting my camera, giving me tons of useful information about how to use it, and of course recommending and explaining different film options. The shudder button on my camera was a little bent out of shape, so Angel went and found me a spare part from their giant wall of donor cameras to replace my bent piece. In an era of dying customer service, I was totally overwhelmed with the generosity and consideration of these two gentlemen. I left with several rolls of film, tons of useful information about my camera and how to use it, as well as info on how to approach getting through TSA with film and recommendations for camera repair shops in the area AND places to get my film developed! It really was a comprehensive visit and I'm super grateful to have found this place. I learned they do purchase cameras, accessories and film as well, so if you're looking to offload any of those things, this is your place (hence the "Exchange" part of the name, I suppose..). If you're looking for anything camera or photography related, I'd HIGLY recommend giving this place a visit. It's a treasure trove of awesome - including and especially the staff!

Today was my first time shopping and visiting this store. The salesman who waited on me named was Bernie. He welcomed me and was quite friendly. I wasn't expecting to make a purchase onmy visit but kind persuasion left an impression. Needless to say, As a new Houston resident, I'm Definitely A New and Loyal customer. Houston Camera Exchange Is True to its reputation. :)

Ask the Community - Houston Camera Exchange

Does anyone know if they sell drones or drones accessories?

    Yes they do!

Do they develop film(specifically 35mm color)?

I went in today and they said no. Recommended the photolab for a local shop processing film.

How are they in buying cameras?

they are pretty fair, they take the camera to the back for examination before labeling a price. they dont normally buy film cameras or video cameras though its mainly the mainstream shit.

From the beginning, communication has been terrible. I never received any updates and had to keep calling just to get basic information. At first, they told me they could fix it and quoted me a fee, which I agreed to. This was in February. Weeks went by with no progress, so I called again that's when I was suddenly told they couldn't fix it after all because they didn't order a part, but that I could get a replacement through them. They promised to call me back. They never did. This became a frustrating cycle of me calling, being told someone would get back to me, and then hearing nothing for weeks. I even made sure to give them some time before I called for updates. I went in person July 11 and waited 25 minutes while the owner searched for my camera, only to come up empty-handed. He told me he'd call me the next day it's been a month and I've heard nothing. When I try to voice my frustrations they come up w lies and hang up the phone on me while I'm talking. I initially chose this place because of the good reviews, but my experience has been extremely disappointing. I've been more than patient, but all I've received is poor customer and the runaround.

They returned it saying there was nothing they could do. I had pretty much given up hope until I came across International Video Tape Copy. Rima, the owner, was amazing from the very beginning. She offered to take a look at the tape despite others labeling it a lost cause. Rima's customer service was exceptional--she kept me updated every step of the way. From the moment she received the tape to when it was being cleaned and eventually transferred to digital format, I felt like I was in good hands. Not only did she manage to save the tape, but her pricing was also incredibly reasonable for the care and effort she put into it. You can tell customer satisfaction is her top priority, and she really goes the extra mile. I can't express how grateful I am for Rima's service and assistance. She saved irreplaceable memories, and I would recommend International Video Tape Copy to anyone needing VHS repair or transfer services. Thank you, Rima!

I started doing business with a neighboring business of…read moreEternity Photo and as we are negotiating with TC Florists, he barges into the conversation telling me and my wife to come talk to him about video service. Therefore we came over afterwards and negotiated and sign the contract with him for basic 1 person coverage of our wedding day, December 6, 2014. First off, the day of the wedding, he shows up 30 minutes late from his scheduled time. Once he showed up, he missed coverage of the groom's party getting prepared for our big day. He also brought along an additional video guy that was not in the contract. He said to me, "Don't worry, I will take care of it. You won't have to pay additional." Once the groom's party shows up at the bride's location, he began to be very bossy and awkward. As speakers from both parties begin to talk, he would continuously cut them off and tell them what he or she should say. Speakers from both party asked me who he was and why he was trying to control the whole ceremony as oppose to letting it flow the way the family wants it to. During the celebration, the groom's party gifted the bride's party with a traditional envelope to wish the newlywed wonderful happiness for the life to come. Within that envelope, was $1000 cash. That envelope went missing and there is an anonymous report to the family seeing Mr. Davison Truong, owner of Eternity Photo, taking the envelope and sticking it into his pocket. Secondly, once the reception started at 6pm @ Kim Son Restaurant on Jefferson, he continued to be bossy with our family. Our family supplied the liquor bottles for the party this evening and he told our family member to place it in a certain spot that he himself designated. These liquor bottles should be handled by the serving staff of Kim Son for this evening, not My. Davison Truong. Our family member later on noticed that he walked away with 3 bottles equivalent to approximately $200 worth. As the night continued, he would appear and disappear at certain times of the night. This was the pattern throughout the day, but on the flip side, we hired a different photographer team that was next to us to capture every moment throughout our wedding day. The purpose of mentioning this is because, another member of the family witnessed him walking through the reception searching for things to take. This family member witnessed him going through a blazer on a table and walked away with an Apple Iphone 6+ ($995 value). We asked her to file a police report on this matter. To sum up this report, a lot of things came up missing throughout our wedding day. It started out with the special envelope with $1000 cash. During the reception, these are the following missing items that have been reported to us: Apple Iphone 6+, $700 cash inside a wallet that was inside the dressing room, and 3 bottles of Remy Martin 1738. We have contacted him directly and mentioned to him that we have people seeing him take these items and he needs to return it. Initially he agreed and apologized. He mentioned that he will return everything he took. When the groom's father showed up at his business on 5200 West Loop South, he locked his door and did not show up. We found out later on that he has booked a flight to Vietnam and have already taken off therefore we were not able to get back in touch with him. The dvd's were left hanging on his door on the Sunday he told us to come pick them up. The person that opened the door to the facility was his neighbor from TC Florists. We mentioned to him what happened during our wedding, and he reported to us that we were not the only bridal party that experienced this. He told us that Davison have taken things from other weddings he has contracted before in 3 different occasions, but the bridal party during those occasions decided to drop the matter and not report it.
