I took a print that a photographer friend of mine had taken to be framed at Davis, since it was recommended to me by another friend who buys a lot of art (though, hasn't in years). It was much more expensive than I expected, but I assumed that it was worth it to get just what I wanted - picked out a frame that had to be ordered, etc. They told me that it would be ready in a month or so and to be patient. I should have realized that was a red flag from the start, as they emphasized not to call in the interim. Well, after about two months, I called to see if my picture was ready. I was asked who helped me originally, before anyone would assist at all, had to scrounge around to find the name on the receipt, etc., then, after providing it, was placed on hold, for about five minutes. I had things to do, so hung up and called them back a week later, same deal - insanely long hold on the phone that was never answered. Then another week, and another, same story each time. Finally, I drove down there to see what was going on and was told that they had lost the print, and can I order a new one? Unfortunately, my photographer friend had passed away, so, no. I asked them to please call me if it turned up. Nothing. It has been almost a year. I guess my recommendation would be - if you're not shy of the price, and you don't mind never seeing what you bring to them ever again, go ahead and go to Davis. read more

Had an older print with broken glass. Went by and Davis replaced it perfectly. I'm from out of town and when I mentioned this - they managed to do the job in one day so I wouldn't have to leave the picture for weeks! When I picked up the picture, they had uncovered some newspaper and other printed material indicating the picture was from 1874 - who knew? I've purchased custom frames from this shop twice now and had great experiences both times! The first was a custom frame for a LARGE mirror, turned out perfectly. Most recently I went to get 2 diplomas framed. I wanted something a little more modern than the usual dark brown frames and they delivered! My fav part are the velvet mats that match our school colors. (It's hard to tell in the attached picture but they are green and blue.) The frame is a neutral cream white with gold accents, so I know it will go with our decor for years to come. Overall I would absolutely recommend this shop! I finally got around to framing my diplomas. This place is in the neighborhood and was so highly reviewed I had to check it out. It's a family-owned, small business opened during typical business hours, but not as conveniently as a bigger, chain store. So I can only come by on Saturday mornings and they are quite busy! I waited around 15 minutes checking out their pre-made frame selection before someone was available to help. I was upfront about wanting the cheapest option available that would look proper in an office. They were totally understanding and helpful. The sales associate showed me a variety of classic options and I picked one. They have lots of custom framing options hanging on the walls. After he told the quote, I was surprised it was so reasonable. I went ahead and got simple matting. I got the non-glare glass, too. It took a few weeks to get the finished product, but everything looked great! I was happy to spend money to have professionals take care of this task. Accepts credit cards. They kindly provided a box and carried everything out to my car for me. Next up, I'm planning to ask them to mount a large map on foam core. Just have to make it back on a Saturday! read more

Good customer service is dying but not at Davis. Michael should teach others how it is done. With an extensive art collection, inevitably something is bound to fall off the wall. With shattered glass, I needed a large (33x28) framed lithograph fixed. Aaron Brothers wanted $149 just for a piece of glass replacement, no thanks. Davis took my piece, with a bag of framing parts and the print. $50 later I was out the door in 4 business days with something that looked better than before. I will definitely be back. Oh and if you think you have seen a lot of custom frames, go look at Davis, it will blow your mind! read more

Great Family-run business. I have taken multiple framing projects here because I know they will do a good job. It is a little more expensive than taking it to Michael's or something, but the quality is much higher. When they called me to pick up last project I brought them, when I arrived the framing was nice, but missing the mats that I had requested. Somehow it had been processed without including them. When I requested that they please fix the mats, rather than just putting mats in covering part of the picture, they completely reframed it with the mats included for no cost. Truly you get what you pay for. The project looks beautiful now and is a focal point of our great room. read more

I really want to shop local, but when I went to collect my framed pictures - they weren't done. Which only added to the insult from day I brought the pieces in whereby TWO employees commented on just how ugly the existing matting and frames were. These guys are tremendous. I don't work there but to address the 1 star review. Yes, if their busy, you can stand around and not be acknowledged. The folks in the back frame your work, not all of them wait on people. They only have a couple of folks that do that and trust me, you don't want the others working with you on framing and matting selections. Just don't be in a hurry, it's worth the wait, for the quality and the price. That said, these folks are wonderful!!! They've framed 40 of my personal photographs, 37 NOLA jazz fest posters and numerous other framed pieces of art for me. The frames on the jazzfest posters are the best I've ever seen anywhere. The detail to picking frames and mats that compliment and make the posters "POP" was one of tremendous expertise and was also a collaboration between myself and the 2 or 3 front end employees' combining their extensive experience. This is THE frame shop to use in Houston. 2nd choice is like who came in second when Secretariat won the Preakness to clinch the Triple Crown. Very nice framing shop with a very large selection and great staff. I came in and spoke to one of their employees named Robert. I explained to him that I needed a print framed for a Benefit in two days. He was able to find the molding that I was looking for in the back. They apparently have a bunch of moldings in stock .He gave me a good price, and had it finished for me the next morning. I will definitely be back. read more

Despite the name, this is really just a picture framing place. That said, practically every piece of framed art in our house was framed by them, and they have always done a great job, from helping us with designing the right frame and matting, to the actual execution. Apart from just being one of the sweetest and hardest working people I've ever met, she is also willing to help you, bring you, meet you, measure for you, spend time with you and really hammer out exactly what you want within your budget. And from what I can tell about the other people who walk in, she treats all her clientele the same with the same care and love. I've never gone into a family business and really felt like part of the family like I do at Davis. Her husband, her kids, her whole family are just without compare in customer service and since they've been in business for generations they've had years to cultivate skill and variety.
