What an honor it is to write the first ever Yelp review for a 14-year Michelin Star restaurant. I'm happy to do it!
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at House - It secured a spot on our top meals of all time list. It was worth the splurge.
The cuisine was exquisite, creative, & varied. Entirely genre-less. We did the 7-course tasting menu (with no regrets) & were wowed every step of the way. Some standouts were the tom yum inspired hot & sour broth (I still dream of this soup) & the Ardmore lobster Rogan Josh. They were able to accomodate my gluten allergy with no problems.
My only critique of the food is the excessive use of gold flake as a garnish. Where we are from, gold flake has become kitschy. It's not really necessary. After seeing it as a garnish once at House, I was all set. But we ran into it many, many more times. The food is stunning as it is. No need for the gold flake flare, in my humble opinion.
The service was great. The sommelier, albeit visibly nervous, pointed us in the direction of a "weird" & "punchy" Grüner Veltliner that we loved. After opening the wine, they did not set it on our table in a carafe, but instead took it away into the unknown but would periodically refill our glasses for us.
With an unobstructed view of the water, we noticed some peculiar activity. There were quite a few jet skis slowly putzing back & forth in the little inlet. When we asked one of the servers if she knew what was going on, she explained that they were looking for sharks. Basking sharks, to be specific, are often seen in the Muir Cheilteach.
When we noticed little dorsal fins meandering throughout the bay, we gasped. From our seat at House, we realized that we could see 4 or 5 basking sharks at any given time. It was such a special moment.
What a stellar experience. I would love to go back to House Restaurant again & maybe even stay in the hotel so I can watch the basking sharks for hours. read more
