We met Chris Houle through our landscape designer on a complex remodel of our front yard. From the initial meeting until the project's completion, Chris went out of his way to ensure that the right choices were made and the work was done to our satisfaction. His crew showed up on time each day they were scheduled, and either Chris or his foreman checked in to let us know what was happening. They always made a conscious effort to leave the job (our front yard) in a clean and safe condition. The project was completed on time and budget. We found Chris and his crew enjoyable to work with and would definitely hire them again. read more

We chose Houle L & M because Chris had experience, knowledge of plants, passion for what he does, and genuine enthusiasm for our project. Other landscapers just didn't seem as excited about what they were doing. We completely updated our front and backyard, including removing several trees and plants, installing two patios, and adding two large veggie beds and all new plants. We are thrilled with the outcome and are confident it would not have come out as well had we chosen another landscape company. Chris is very knowledgeable about plants and was very willing and enthusiastic to help us realize our vision. There were times when we felt overwhelmed with all the decisions. Chris walked us through options and was so helpful in reassuring during the decision process. He was very patient with our changes to the plan and went above and beyond to bring our vision into reality. His team was always on time, they worked hard, and cleaned things up before they left each day. His foreman was also very knowledgeable, had great ideas, and was easy to work with. Everyone was very professional. As time consuming as the project was and despite how overwhelmed we felt at times, we were kind of sad when it was over. I enjoyed brainstorming ideas with Chris and working with him. He is a great guy. We really enjoy spending time in our new yard. I look around and feel so happy about how beautiful everything looks. We highly recommend Houle L & M for your next landscaping project. You won't regret it! read more

Houle Landscapes did an outstanding job of landscaping my back yard. I have had a huge drainage problem due to underground springs from El Toro. They relandscaped my back yard, added French Drains, dry riverbeds and a sump pump to deal with the water. It is beautiful with new and beautiful plants and it is NOT FLOODED!!! They were very professional and a pleasure to work with. read more

No idea why everybody gave them 5 stars. These guys come to my community every week and they do the sloppiest job I have ever seen. Leaves still left in the yard, they prune the flowers down to the bone and leave nothing for us to enjoy because they do not want to take care of it, and the men give our neighbors attitude when asked to please come back and pick up what they left behind. No way they have to be here 5-6 hours a week when all they do is start a fire and have barbecues at the cul- de- sac. Like you're on the job, come on!!!!! read more

There are not enough words that can express my gratitude for Chris and his crew. They did an amazing job on our new backyard, with amazing quality, attention to detail, time frame, work ethic, thoughtfulness, respect for us--- I could go on and on. Not only did I get a gorgeous backyard of quality, I came away with a friendship with one of the nicest men you will meet. How many people can say they cried when their landscapers left? I can. Call Chris and you will not be disappointed! read more

My landscape designer recommended Chris Houle from Houle Landscape & Maintenance among others as good prospects for a landscape contractor. I contact Chris and two other landscape contractors, and each gave me a bid. As I recall the bid Chris gave me was in the middle of the pack. After talking with him and the others and looking at their reviews, I decided to go with Chris Houle, and I am EXTREMELY glad I did! Chris and his crew were professional and easy to work with. They always showed up when they said they would and did not mind if I changed the plans a bit as the project moved along. Chris used high quality materials which added a bit to the cost, but they were well worth using. Chris touched base with me every so often making sure that the project was heading in the direct that I wanted it to. Chris was always available to me for further input, and he even helped me pick out some of the large flowerpots for the back yard by meeting me at a local landscaping supply company! After the project was complete Chris kept in touch with me offering suggestions on how to keep my yard beautiful after the job was complete. He also returned to my home to add extra lights in the back yard after I decided I wanted more lighting. After working with Chris and his crew, I HIGHLY recommend him and his company, and would give him a 10 out of 10 for his professionalism and honesty! If you hire him, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! Chris Houle did an amazing job with our backyard project. He was able to take the landscape architect's design and bring it to life. Chris offered great suggestions and opinions, and he was flexible when we had some changes to the layout. We got three bids, and Chris' was the lowest, but we got a great value. Gus and his crew was very professional and considerate when doing the work, and cleaned up after the project was over. We could not be any happier and recommend Chris anytime! read more

Called Chris last week with an impromptu smaller job. He called back the next business day and was able to schedule coming out the same day to provide an estimate. He was on time, courteous, and offered some really great advise on a another project I will have coming along soon. He was able to schedule a crew the next day and the work was completed on time, within budget, and his crew was extremely polite and professional. I will absolutely work with him again and definitely recommend him for your landscape needs. Thanks Chris!! read more

5 stars is not enough to convey how happy I am with our landscaping project. Chris was either on-site or called me very morning to provide status and to ask how everything was going. He was also very accommodating with some changes we felt would be better. The crew and especially Israel, his lead man, worked hard and efficiently. They checked in with me periodically each day to make sure their work met my expectations. I have worked with many contractors over the years and have never experienced the level of communication and responsiveness I received from Chris and his team. I wholeheartedly recommend them! read more

Chris and team provided the best service we could imagine. Chris met with me to find out what kind of plants and design in mind before the project. The project was completed in a day, which included reworking our sprinklers and drip system, planting lavender, roses, birch and lilac trees for our front yard. He also stopped by afterwards to make sure that we were happy with the results. He also worked well within our budget to get the design I wanted. Truly amazed. I am so happy with the results and they were prompt and efficient. Would highly recommend them to anyone for any kind of landscaping! read more

Even during shelter-in-place, Chris was in communication with us almost daily to provide updates and checking to make sure the project plans worked for us. With the water restrictions we're facing I had a serious and urgent issue with 5 of the sprinkler manifolds malfunctioning forcing me to turn off the mainline valve off and forcing all of my landscape to suffer during a very hot and dry period. I called Houle L&M, told Chris about my issue and they came over the very next morning. Very professional and couldn't be happier with the results. Don't mess around, call Chris and have it done right the first time. read more

Chris and team maintained our property for a couple of years before we relocated out of state and they did a fantastic job. They were exceptionally reliable, showing up at the same time each week. They also were very careful to keep gates closed so our dogs would not get out. Chris and team maintained our property in excellent condition. These guys don't butcher the landscaping with hedge clippers, but rather, they take the time to meticulously prune and dead-head the landscaping so that it has a clean, natural look to it. They take care of sprinkler adjustments, lawn fertilizing, etc. When something extra was needed, I only had to email or call and they would take care of it right away. My only complaint is that we could not take them with us to maintain our new property now that we have moved. read more

Houle Landscape and Maintenance is fantastic! Chris Houle is a real professional and took the time to get to know us and understand our need with our backyard landscape. Chris was timely and courteous and even took the time to drive to a local nursery to help with our decision of what type of plants and trees to plant. The end result was better than what we had expected. His crew was always on-time and when they left in the evening they took the time to neatly store their equipment out of the way. When the job was done, Chris did a final walk-through with us. I highly recommend Houle Landscape and Maintenance! read more

Talented, dependable, punctual, courteous, and responsive...the complete package. Chris and his experienced crew were a delight to work with. They replaced a lawn with a beautiful mounded garden area with California native plants, a simple walkway, and a redesigned irrigation system. The remodel also included removing a massive tree stump. The crew was willing to answer all of my questions and responded to my requests every step of the way. If I have any future landscaping needs, I will definitely call Chris again. read more

Very impressed with owner Chris Houle, and his team. We had an urgent problem with our irrigation system feeding our backyard and small orchard. In spite of having some staff on vacation, Chris and his team went over and above to rectify the problem, which turned out to be VERY labor-intensive, due to some confined areas they had to work in. He got back to me in a timely manner and workers were on site and working diligently when he said they would be. We will definitely use Houle again, and will readily recommend him to friends and family. read more

We have known Chris for a few years, and knew his company did a lot of commercial landscape services. We called and asked him for a one time clean up in preparation for a home sale. He quickly responded and was here within a short time. His crew, as is Chris, were meticulous and top notch. Our place looks amazing. Highly recommend! read more

I was amazed by the quality of the work that Chris and his team did. I have worked with lots of contractors on home improvement projects, and Houle Landscaping and Maintenance are by far the most professional. They show up on time, communicate any changes (such as a different time for plant deliveries) ahead of time, and are always easy to reach and communicate with. I had most of my yard (except the patio and trees) taken out because the yard had a bunch of bare spaces after plants died during the drought, and overgrown, half dead, juniper shrubs in much of the rest. The backyard was divided in half by an old, broken water feature. Chris and his guys took out all of it, even the huge water feature, and made it look easy. This was all without damage to the existing patio or trees, even when these were right near what was being removed. They easily worked alongside an electrician I had come out for outdoor electrical work, as well as following with excellent detail a landscaping plan that I had a designer draw up. Despite changes during the project, Chris and his guys were always professional and courteous. In all my experience interacting with people I've hired to do major projects in and around my house (gutter repair, painting, floors, arborists, electrical, plumbing, you name it) I have never had any person or any company be as polite or as thorough as Houle L & M, Inc. It is a level of professionalism that I didn't know existed before. I am used to checking and double-checking every single detail, and realized that with this company that I often didn't have to. Things just got done right. Now I have a much more usable patio, beautiful new plants, an excellent drip irrigation system, a great looking dry creek bed, a wonderful arbor and more. Best yet, they did a good job integrating the new stuff with the patio and trees that were already there. It looks great, and sometimes I still can't believe it's my yard. The result was better than I ever expected, and the process of working with Chris and his company was easy and enjoyable. We weren't overcharged for anything, and Chris and his foremen took the same pride and care in working on my yard as they would in working on their own yards. read more
