I have not been…read moreinside a Crossfit facility (aka, Box) or even did a solid workout (more than 30 minutes) in almost a year. Then I decided to take advantage of the 3 free visits* and get back on track. My hip hop blaring, my water bottle full, small towel folded and ready for sweat I rolled in on a Monday evening. As a point of reference for location, it is about 14 minutes from downtown Augusta if traffic is good. You will see that the front of the building belongs to a ministry, which leaves their additional parking open except on Wednesday nights. You won't be able to miss the sound of grunting, weights bouncing off the floor, and music getting your heart rate up. As I walked in, one of the trainers introduced himself and shared how the process would go (online paperwork, warm ups, workout). Another trainer aided me with the warm up, as I wasn't sure what all the terms were. They both did an excellent job of describing the terminology and not making me feel out of place for having to ask. To be honest, I was worn out by the time the workout began. The primary trainer for the session had me take it easy and we focused on the methods of each exercise more so than how many reps I could do. It was nice to have the experience of a work out without being flung into it unprepared. By the end of the session, everyone had introduced themselves and said they hoped I came back. Between the gasps of air and constant wiping of sweat, I told them I would. That night I slept like I haven't in a long time. This is a good place with good people who are encouraging and patient and inclusive with their workout sessions. If you have questions or fears about Crossfit, come here. They will make you feel at home. I look forward to my next visit. *Be sure to visit the website and see the instructions for the 3 free visits. You will need to arrive early (to fill out the online paperwork). Also, they try to have an extra trainer on hand to be there one-on-one through the workout for you. No agreements or credit card numbers, just an honest no-strings attached 3 free visits.

Because of my friend, she dragged me to a social with a lot of the coaches and members the day before the competition and I got to experience the culture of the box. The women are healthy, intense yet without the negative stigma that crossfit sometimes comes with, which I enjoy. I mean, it's nice when it's an environment of balance rather than perfection. 'Let's chug a drink and do double-unders for a minute" -- okay, you're normal people. Very open and friendly. During the competition the group was very encouraging in all of the stages, throughout the whole day and welcoming of all the people visiting from other boxes for the charity event. To the gym itself: It's humongous. A huge area with lots of space. A giant rig in the middle no matter if you're a tiny like me or a 6'1" woman like my friends. I'd love to see the box in action during a regular day, because I could imagine it to be a workout energy zone. until the next time, box 706!

CrossFit 4 Everyone formerly CrossFit Downtown Augusta:…read more This box is awesome! Julie and Joshua have a top notch facility that is so spacious it is more of a monster truck garage than just a normal box. With 10 years of CrossFit coaching between the two of them, it shows in their ability to break down and teach the movements. They are extremely personable and approachable and this encourages a supportive, welcoming group of athletes. There is plenty of equipment to go around including the oly bars, ropes, and rings. Where floor space is at a premium in most boxes, the openness of the space just feels good. I have only been a visitor for a month, but all of the other folks in the gym are just as warm and affable as the two owners/coaches. The sense of community, one of the main reasons I continue to CrossFit, is amazing, and they FREQUENTLY have Saturday WODs in awesome places including Bring-a-Friend WODs so you can introduce your friends and family to being fit. They also encourage social participation amongst their athletes which makes it into the family (or cult) that CrossFit is meant to be. Another major plus, especially for visitors like me, is the paleo meals that one of their athletes is starting to supply for box members. $12 a meal on top of the normal monthly fee, and you don't have to eat the crap (even if it is awesome crap) that most of the Augusta area offers. I have no children, but there is a child sitting service... not quite sure what the deal is for that particular service. There is also Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu collocated with the box. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to take a lesson. I know that if I ever come back to Augusta, I will certainly be WOD'ing with these folks!

That makes such a huge difference. I can really say that this makes my workouts much smoother, it is amazing how one move can make a difference in how an exercise feels. Even today, Josh made sure to let me know that I wasn't squatting low enough, it was difficult for me, however, once I did squat low enough, made that 6lb ball go up to 9 feet much smoother. Julie checks in on how you are doing with emails. Everyone is a great motivator as well. They have patience and don't mind staying after to show you how to do more movements on the pull up bar, gym rings or with weights. Oh, and Josh does all this with a great sense of humor. They have a massage therapist onsite as well, and what could be better than to push yourself with a hard workout, then get a great massage by Susie. The only thing I don't like is the driveway, which they have no control over. It is the intersection of Pleasant Home and Old Petersburg. There is no light for you to pull out, so be very careful!

I was nervous as I am always about a new gym, especially them knowing that I am only dropping in. That didn't stop me from making pals at this place. The 5 am crew are tight and friendly. The first time that I entered this gym I was approached by who I thought was a member saying " hello new person" this was Joey who I think is one of the head coaches, I think. It didn't take long for him to learn my name. I was also able to me Greta, she is the normal 5 am Coach. Greta, seriously changed my life when she told me to think like a scarecrow when doing a snatch if you are a crossfiter you know that it only takes one person to tell you how to do a movement that can change the way you have been doing everything, and she did! I seriously fell in love with this place, the challenging workouts coupled with the friendly atmosphere, I would totally recommend this place! If you have heard about how hard the classes are and you are thinking I'm not in shape enough, I can't go..Or it's too hard for me..Or I'm not a college student, I couldn't keep up..
