The price was actually pretty good - especially compared to what the dealership was charging. I'm going to write this review like Jesus would by pointing out two things they know how to do…read moreright. First, they know how to install remote starters well. Second, they are very friendly. However, the main issue I have with them is their lack of integrity. First, Carlos, the counter guy try's to sell me a remote starter that already comes with an alarm. He told me, "for an extra $20 bucks I could add an alarm system to go with your remote starter." Not knowing much about the Compustar Q9 package, I said, "okay, it sounds like a good deal." (Not to mention, he charged me an extra $100 for the drone module that probably already came with the $500 system.) But that's not what really bothered me. After using the alarm system for about four months, I finally had enough of the glitchy and annoying alarm. I don't think it was fully in sync with my Ford F150. So I came back and told them that I wanted the alarm removed. So, what did they do? They removed the entire $650 Compustar Q9 remote start system from my truck. Why...? ( I knew I should have been more specific with them.) So I told Luis, the manager, "you made a mistake. I only wanted the alarm removed, not my entire remote starting system." I paid $650 dollars for the remote starter. I didn't pay all that money for a cheap alarm. It was a big mistake. And when I told him this, he tried to deceive me into buying another remote starting system that doesn't come with an alarm already built in. He wanted to charge me another $250 bucks for something I didn't need. Not knowing much about Compustar systems, I asked ChatGPT for help. Thankfully, ChatGPT told me everything I needed to know. All I had to provide was two simple things. Ultimately, instead of just disabling the alarm and keeping the remote starter installed. (Which is what they should have done from the beginning.) Luis wanted to take advantage of my ignorance and rip me off an extra $250 bucks. It was a simple reprogramming issue that Luis refused to acknowledge. And tried very hard to make me believe there was no other way around it. I'm going to paste the exact ChatGPT reply, along with the text message I sent to Luis (the manager of J's Sound Shop) down below: I asked chat GPT about the issue I was having. And I asked if it was necessary to remove the whole remote start system from my F150. And based on the model number of the system and the model number of the bypass module, it was NOT necessary to take the whole thing off. You could have left the remote starter installed and just taken the alarm off. See the text below: (Chat GPT replied) I can clearly identify two modules: Compustar CM-900AS (the remote start controller) iDatalink Blade-AL (the bypass/data interface module) The Blade-AL plugs directly into the CM-900AS and allows the remote start to communicate with your 2018 Ford F-150's factory electronics, including the immobilizer and CAN bus. This is a very common, proper installation. What this means for your original question Based on this hardware, I do not see any reason the entire remote start system had to be removed just because you wanted the alarm removed. The CM-900AS can be configured in several ways: Remote start only Remote start + alarm Remote start + keyless entry Those are software/programming options and installation choices. The alarm functions are not inseparable from the remote start. A competent installer can often: Disable the alarm features. Disconnect or remove the siren, shock sensor, or alarm wiring. Leave the CM-900AS and Blade-AL installed so the remote start continues to work. The only exceptions would be if: The installer wired the alarm and remote start together in an unusual way. You specifically wanted every aftermarket component removed. There was a wiring problem that made replacement easier than modification. Those are exceptions--not the normal rule. (End of Chat GPT reply) You know the irony of it all... J's Sound Shop uses ChatGPT to promote their business. I don't know about you, but I just don't like being lied to. And trying to rip me off an extra $250 by having me purchase a new remote starting system, well that's just not right. I expect this from a car salesman, but not from a remote start installer. As a Christian, this was my honest review.

Brought my vehicle for a consultation on replacing the garbage Blaupunkt that was previously…read moreinstalled. Told Cal that I just wanted an entry level double din that has Apple CarPlay. He advised me that they had a Boss Elite BE7ACP in stock. I shared my opinion that I felt Boss was Wal-Mart junk, and Cal told me it had a 2 year warranty and that their quality has improved with the Elite series. I spent a few minutes researching others' opinions online, and they were mixed. Some people said that they'd had this model for years with no issues. Others reported issues with it powering down unexpectedly. I am aware that some issues can be the result of a poor install. A loose ground, a bad connection, etc. all will cause issues. Since this is an older car that I rarely drive, more of a back-up car, I rolled the dice. This model only has wired CarPlay which Cal was upfront about, but I don't care. I plug my phone in to charge when I get in anyway, I don't understand the people who will spend $200 more for wireless but that's their prerogative. He was also honest about the couple of Sony units he had in stock, and while there wasn't a great variety on display that's common in smaller shops. They just don't have the room for 20 units on display, although I think they could squeeze in a few more. The unit they sold me was $50 more than it sells for ($200) on Amazon, and I know small businesses use product mark-up to help with their small profit margins. I didn't complain, but if they will install equipment that you buy yourself, that may be another option to save money. An important note: I had been to another install shop in Mokena, they wanted thousands of dollars (literally) to replace the head unit and speakers, stating that they couldn't use my factory Bose amp that drives the 7 speakers my car came with in 2007. They had all sorts of stories about why it made sense to spend $4k to replace a head unit, amp, and speakers in a car whose blue-book value is $1,800. Cal listened to my speakers and explained that the front right tweeter was blown and that he could replace the tweeters and door speakers because they are a component system with some decent Kenwood or Alpine options for about $400 - which I will take him up on. He can integrate them with my Bose amp with no issues. I just need my sound to not to "buzz", I'm not entering car stereo competitions - and he's taking care of that. Cal had a cancellation on the upcoming Saturday and squeezed me in. By the afternoon the work was done and everything works great. It's true that they have only 1 garage, and Cal was the only one there both times I went. I know that presents challenges when he has to leave working on a car to come to the counter for a walk-in. But I wasn't ignored and didn't wait at all. He was attentive and patient and explained everything well. So far the Boss head unit works well and there are no issues. I will update the review if things go south. But most importantly, people should know that my experience with the one employee I dealt with at Automotive Concepts (Cal) was honest, offered options instead of trying to scam me, and executed a solid install. I would trust someone who does this for a career before I bring it to some Best Buy hack who will be working elsewhere in 6 months.

I pointed out that the glass had fallen down into the panel. I was told this would be vacuumed out as part of the service. Before I left I opened my trunk and heard that plenty of glass was still rattling within it. When I asked again about it being cleaned out, I was told I would need to come back the following day and the wait would be 2 hours again. I returned the following day and waited 2 additional hours for it to be re-cleaned, which is very unfortunate because I specifically asked for this to be done and it should have the first time. I paid $350 and spent 4 hours of time on this job. The two other shops quoted me $315 (this was further away, near Midway, so I chose Halsted over them) and the other place in Alsip was $375. Though this price was reasonable, there were others charging similar rates and the service here was not worth the cost and time combined. There is still glass in the panel but it is not as noisy as it was when I left on the first day. Also, though the glass was supposed to be new that I purchased, it looks different than the original. Just some things to ask about in advance if you use this shop for your glass replacement.
