There is much to be said for this hotel location as it is in a wonderful spot that also includes the lovely neighborhood patisserie, pharmacy and market on Acacia Street just steps away. However, the service has really taken a nose dive as compared to the last reviews which I see are from years ago. The lead staff person (an austere woman who was at the front desk most of the 6 days I was there) exhibited a callousness in a difficult situation that left me with a really bad feeling the rest of my visit there. This particular day, she took my key (per their procedure) as I entered after the whole morning out. I then got to my room discovering that I had no water. It was at the midpoint of my visit and my busiest day in Paris. I was back for only a brief 30 min "pit stop" to have lunch in my room before heading out again for the rest of the day. I took the elevator down to let her know I had no water. With great indifference, she said, "oh yes, the water is off in the area and will be on in an hour." I said I needed to leave again in less than 30 minutes; I was having lunch in my room and could she please provide a bottle of water for me, given the circumstances (adding that I was planning on using the tap water). She said "no" flatly but that I could buy one from her for 1.5 euros if I wanted it (btw they sell it for 1 euro at the market up the block). I was pretty shocked that she simply didn't offer this meager bottle as a courtesy given the situation and inconvenience of it all (including not being able to flush the toilet). She added: "I cannot give one to you as then I would have to give one to the whole hotel" which didn't make any sense to me if this outage was only going to be one hour midday. Twenty minutes later, on my way down, I crossed paths with another hotel guest (French-speaking in this case) carrying her water bottle. I asked, did you need to pay for it too? She said, "not sure", and then relayed that the woman at the front desk told her about the water being out as she handed in her key, and handed her a bottle of water in exchange, without mentioning the charge. It showed me that this woman at the front desk got her act together with the next hotel guest (was it because she spoke French? Hard to know?) but remained totally unpleasant to me, for no good reason, other than was it because I didn't speak French (hard to know but it felt demeaning and lousy). The next morning, I received an email from the hotel asking me how my visit was going. Uncanny timing. I wrote back to mention my disappointment about the incident above and received the following response: "we are not a charity" , missing the whole point. It was so trivial as far as the cost but on the other hand, because it was so trivial, it showed the complete lack of respect and service this lead person provided at a difficult moment in this traveler's day. Even in this modest hotel, I would have expected more. I have never seen so little and will take my business elsewhere. There are so many lovely and similar-priced hotels to choose from in Paris with gracious people in charge, and no need to endure such unpleasant treatment. read more
