Authentic and beautiful building Room was updated and the bed was great. We had a Spanish consulate appointment and this hotel is walking distance Since it's an older hotel the hall was a little noisy when cleaners came thru Coral gables restaurants are just a 2 minute walk away . I choose this over Miami again in a Heartbeat Staff was nice and friendly read more

I loved our brief stay at this boutique hotel. It was such a nice change from the cookie cutter type hotels I normally stay at. This is not your modern hotel. There is an elevator operator. To me, this just adds to the charm of the hotel. The rooms are small yet lovely. They are unique and cozy. The location is great and is within walking distance to numerous restaurants and bars of you don't want to eat at the in house restaurant. Staff were lovely and I loved the little touches such as a "real" key and antique doorknobs and fixtures. read more

I lived just up the road from this hotel for 5 years and never knew that it was there. Tucked into the same frontage as the excellent Zucca restaurant, this place is a well preserved throwback to true art deco age Miami. It has a manual operated elevator and the rooms have the unique character of the bygone era of Miami that still exists in places like the art deco portion of the beach and the 20's era buildings of downtown. There is no spa and the amenities are older, obviously, but if you like to experience the actual feeling of a place and be within walking distance to all that is on Miracle Mile, this place is wonderful. Will likely stay here again on my next business trip to my old home city. read more

This is called Hotel St Michael hotel but in it's hay day it was called the historic Sevilla Hotel. It was built in 1926. It has a very regal look to it from the outside, and on one side of the building it has an angular design to it, see my photograph. More than $2,000,000 was expended in the construction of business buildings in during 1926. Nothing in the history of development has been more impressive than the growth of its business districts. Its buildings, no matter what the purpose, had to conform to the highest standards in art and architecture, to ensure harmony, beauty and substantiality. Notable among the business structures recently completed was the Karp Building, now the Hotel St Michel. Back then it was a retail and office building at Ponce de Leon Boulevard and Alcazar Ave, with frontage on both thoroughfares. Designed by Anthony Zink, architect, and erected at a cost of $250,000. The Karp Building, now the Hotel St. Michel, was a high achievement, both in artistic design and substantial construction. It is three stories in height, of heavy concrete and hollow tile construction throughout. At the time it had modern requirements, this included a sprinkler system, and a brass manual controlled elevator, which still resides in the Hotel St. Michel today. ‍ Originally the 1st floor held 12 retail shops while the upper floors featured 34 offices. Eventually the offices were converted into hotel rooms and the property was named The Hotel Sevilla. In 1979 the building was purchased by Stuart Bornstein and Alan Potamkin and renamed The Hotel Place St Michel. A restaurant was established on the ground floor, first as La Crepe St Michel, subsequently expanding to become the iconic Restaurant St Michel, which ran successfully for 35 years. The restaurant space is now operated as the internationally acclaimed Zucca Ristorante. read more

The folks at the front desk were very pleasant and helpful. Location was great. We hadn't been to the area before and there was a ton to do and eat within walking distance. They were kind enough to upgrade us to a suite. Also, gotta love that elevator. read more

There are many ups and Downs here. Not a Miami veteran so take that into consideration. One hotel key, 3 people. No gift shop or coffee shop. I really like this place in the beginning I spent $500 the first night at the restaurant to watch them fine over another table were the manager was there and they ignored me and I was the one who's actually staying at the hotel there these people just came I know they didn't spend as much money as I did the next night they never brought us extra bread I mean do you have 10 whole customers in there and you can't give extra bread and we asked for three times I guess that was the big turn off that was a hotel guest staying at the hotelYou also have to park across the street read more

I arrived in Miami late in the evening and was fortunate enough to be able to book this beautifully rustic hotel! Daniel and Evelyn at the front desk or were extremely polite and helpful! The restaurant in the entrance looks incredible as well! Highly recommended. read more

Quaint hotel with a 90+ year history. Located in a good part of town. Room rates of $200 or so per night felt reasonable judging from what was seemingly on offer. All is well from the outside, so to speak. The interiors are a different story. There is a mix of old and new rooms apparently. I ended up with an old room despite my booking request for a new one (to be fair to them, they cannot guarantee it). Small room, odd-shaped and hard-to-use bathroom and an uncomfortable bed. Service is quite matter-of-fact and mediocre. You expect a boutique experience but get Holiday Inn service and poor value for money? I couldn't check off any of the boxes of what I'd expect from a good hotel. And will take my business elsewhere next time I am in the area. read more

My wife and I booked a 5-night stay at St. Michel. We have stayed there before and have had friends also stay. The room was quite small and clean (smaller than last visit) but we paid a very favorable rate so we weren't expecting the honeymoon suite. The morning (as well as all day!) after our 2nd night, there was a crew of workers repairing tile directly across the hall. I spent most of the day in the room as my wife was visiting friends. The constant banging was very annoying! I finally went down to the front desk to inquire why we were not informed of the work or if we could be moved well away from the construction. The somewhat pleasant, somewhat apologetic, and definitely unhelpful lady at the desk informed me that summer is the only time to do this kind of work (off-season). We later learned that the work was actually a needed repair job and not a scheduled maintenance job as we were told. That most guests are out and about during the day (apparently, I was the only one home?!?!), and no one else had complained. Guess I was under the impression that when you "rent" a hotel room for a day, it includes morning, noon, and evening. I was also told we could not be moved since the hotel was booked that evening (our 3rd night out of 5). I do believe that was true, but the desk clerk said we were welcome to find other accommodations elsewhere and we would be refunded the balance of our stay... Can you believe....??? When we were leaving the hotel for dinner that evening, we met a more senior staff member named Daniel (didn't get his last name), who upon hearing our unfortunate experience was quite upset and promised a quick resolution. Daniel actually called the hotel General Manager (Evelyn Davis) to explain what happened. Daniel indicated he was on duty until midnight and we should check with him when we return after dinner. As soon as we returned, Daniel informed us that after talking with Evelyn, our 3rd night was refunded and we would be moved the next day for our final 2 nights. The hotel was booked that 3rd night and the next day we would be out the majority of the day (as not to be disturbed by the workers). That afternoon we would move to a beautiful king suite for our 4th and 5th night (very apologetic, no additional costs). That was GM Evelyn Davis along with her "rock" (her words) assistant, Daniel going the extra mile and providing stellar customer service! Thank you Evelyn and Daniel...!!! Everyone else we encountered (unfortunately, except for one) was very gracious. We had an excellent happy hour at Zucca one evening. I might also add that all of the housekeeping staff were very friendly and both rooms were (Covid!) clean! Thank you for a positive experience. We'll be back and may just call Daniel or Evelyn directly to book a room... :-). read more

OLD WORLD CHARM This place has a boatload of charm, although it's creaking and a little run-down around the edges: parquet floors in the rooms, funky old artwork, a manned (womanned!) elevator. The super critical will despise it. The adaptable traveler may just love it, as we did. There is an excellent restaurant downstairs (Segundo Muelle). Truthfully, it's about 3 1/2 stars, but I bumped it to four because I liked the semi-seedy feel of the place. read more

Hotel St Michel - Wilting fresh roses typify the feeling here... - Hotels Near Me - Coral Gables, Florida

This place is unique, you check in at an old fashion counter where they hand you a key with a heavy key chain - you are then ushered into an antique elevator and a mysterious character takes you up to your floor, the floor boards creak under you, the doors are heavy, the furniture is ancient- loads of personality, old bathrooms... the works!!! If these guys had any sense they would claim that the place is haunted and laugh their way to the bank. Sadly - no paranormal activity except from the midnight counter staff, but then, you have to be quite unique to work the graveyard shift in an old hotel. read more

Honestly in my opinion it is completely over rated. This review is for the Hotel, not the brunch. Its very quaint but is in need of remodeling on the inside. Gustavo is right, they could scare the heck out of you with ghost stories, it is dark, old and could be hiding some scary things in the dark corners. The room was pretty dank and just OLD. Nothing in the bathroom worked 100% and it just didn't seem very clean. For what you pay, all you are paying for is the name. Skip it. The name isn't worth paying over $280 a night for on an off peak day. read more

Spectacular service, great restaurant, fun boutique historic vibe. Always recommend this hotel to friends, family, and colleagues traveling in Coral Gables. Price is fair too. read more

Satisfactory in general. Room was big, the antique furniture in the suite was not very comfortable and the TV was not great but the bed and bath was very nice, the service friendly and location excellent for Coral Gables. No breakfast or continental breakfast provided and that was disappointing but it's ok for a night or so, no more considering the room rate. read more

I do not know how any review would be more than 1 star. it should be 0. our experience was a nightmare. we had no hot water. The door knob came off in our hands and the only way to turn off the lamp in the room was to unplug it. The staff was rude. This hotel is a rip off and they probably pay people for a good review. save your money and stay somewhere else. you will regret staying at this hotel. read more

Lovely boutique hotel, clean, updated, reasonable, willing to accommodate. We came for a short stay and need a refrigerator in our room. They were willing to accommodate our extra request willingly and I would stay here again. Nice staff and would recommend. Great location too! read more

Very nice hotel. Some reviews mentioned the old school rooms but mine was upgraded and very nice. This trip was work related, but I will definitely return for pleasure. The restaurant Zucca is top notch. The bartenders (I wish I got their names) are wonderful and attentive. Apparently this place is very popular with the locals. And I can see why. If you want a unique experience in Coral Gables, look this place up. read more

Just stay one night but the service was outstanding. Very personal treated like a guest not another face will go back again

Expectations were not too high as the price was relatively low compared to others in the area. I have to also admit that maintaining a hotel built in 1926 must be a tough challenge...but between the bouncy floor, loose wooden floor, wobbly toilet, the creepy French portraits in the room staring at you, construction literally taking place outside our room, and the fact that every step from the room above us was magnified as if an elephant was on holiday...I would not recommend this hotel to my worse enemy!!! Honestly this compares to a cheap motel on the side of a highway...yeah the entrance might be "cute" yeah they have old furniture...but when you feel like the person in the room above is going to call through the ceiling...it is better paying a few more bucks and staying somewhere quiet and COMFORTABLE!!! read more

Two stars only for the service, front desk was staffed by the sweetest lady. But after that I can't say I was at all too impressed. It's a beautiful historic hotel and I loved the ambiance, but my room was a whole different story. First and foremost the antique furniture looked tired and old, one chair had a slew of mysterious stains I don't even want to ask about. The wardrobe had damage to it and wasn't exactly very large, it just looked worn and old. While the bed was just a mattress, a box spring and no other framing. The mattress itself was hard as a rock and it was terrible, I also found ants crawling on the bed. Nothing serious just the small back ones you get at home in the kitchen, but being a five star hotel you expect better. For some reason my room was at an angle and the drapes in parts of the room were nailed closed, though was no draft. My bathroom was nice, but the tub had several rust stains on the bottom which didn't make me feel comfortable at all. Overall the bathroom was clean and well kept and cleaned. The floor was covered in scratches and it needed to be replaced, so the room just tired looking and looked like it needed a serious update plus all the furniture looked like it had been bought in a yard sale. read more

I recently stayed here when I came down for a conference. The staff is very friendly, professional, and helpful. The outside of the building is beautiful with a very classic look. The rooms have an antique style and if you shut the windows to block the outside sounds you could pretend it was 1950 or something. The furniture is well used, but clearly clean and cared for, although the chairs could probably be reupholstered. I liked the room (I like history). The drawbacks include noise- you can here ALL the partying, because the hotel is in a trendy area with a lot going on! If I was on vacation I wouldn't have minded, but I had to get up early for the conference- not their fault. There is an onsite restaurant that I did not try- Peruvian food. All in all, I would stay here again- the location is ideal because of how close it is to everything: Calle Ocho, FIU, the airport. read more

Not great. Service and attitude was very bad across the board. Not welcoming or accommodating.

Place was a bit run down but still was a little cute. Had trouble with the TV. Woke up in the morning to check out and went downstairs at 12:10. I told the lady that we couldn't get the shower to work and she tells me it's past checkout time, 12:10. I asked her what did have to do with the shower not working mind you it 10 minutes past checkout time. Go back and forth about 5 times and all she keeps on telling me is that it's past checkout time. Lost my patience and called her and idiot after she tells me that management will back her up. She turns to my girlfriend and tells her she is sorry she has to live with me. Place is really not worth going to and if you are particular about service you definitely don't want to go to this place. Or if you like to take a shower. read more

Not kid friendly. Guy below in 206 came screaming at me that my 2 year old was walking around to much. Real weird guy. In order to leave you have to tell the receptionist so you can get buzzed out of the parking garage gate and you have to tell them every single time you leave or the gate doesn't let you out. No elevator you can use on your own. Tv barely works. No refrigerator. Staff was nice but that's about it. Tiny tiny tiny bathroom. Left early. read more

For the price and location you can't get any better. We just stayed there over this past weekend and thought it was great. Its a unique hotel for sure, but it's a nice change from the general cookie cutter hotels that you see nowadays. For those who want something unique, give it a try. Check-in was super fast and in a matter of minutes we were in our room. The lady at the front desk was super nice and got us checked-in quickly. We did park across the street for $14. I've stayed in other hotels in the Gables where you pay twice as much. The stairs is right off the front desk, so it's no big deal just walking up one floor to your room. Unless your luggage weighs 200 lbs, I can see where an elevator is needed. But for everyone who is just staying there one or two nights and have regular luggage, it's really no big deal. The lady at the front desk offered the elevator but we just walked up the stairs. The room itself was fine. The bed was comfortable, the TV had DirecTV and had plenty of channels. Everything you can ask for. The bathroom was clean and overall adequate. The room seemed a bit smaller than your usual hotel, but I didn't find it an issue. I read reviews where it said the hotel was super noisy. We slept just fine and barely heard anything. It is an old hotel, so if there are a lot of people running around I can see where it can get noisy. But from my experience, I didn't hear a thing. There is no room service or breakfast. If you're looking for that then don't stay here. But you're in Coral Gables. Plenty of great places to have breakfast and lunch/dinner options galore. You are super close to some of the best restaurants in South Florida. I'd definitely stay here again. For the price and location it's well worth it. read more

This is a lovely old and old style hotel. It dates back to the twenties when you needed an elevator operator to bring you up and down...and you still do. They have renovated the rooms to update them but luckily left a few in it's vintage state. They've always been very nice to me and I've stayed there four or five times. If I'm looking for something different than the modern chain owned hotel I always pick the St. Michel. read more

Lovely quaint old hotel that's been nicely remodeled. Old 1926 elevator requires an attendant who is never there requiring you to use the stairs. Parking is across the street so self park at $14 a night. First time last time but was very nice otherwise! read more

This hotel tries to come across as charming, but it is really just old and tired. There is no room service -- not even a vending or ice machine. It you want ice - you have to call the front desk for it. When I checked in, I had to wait for the desk clerk (and all around do-everything person) to operate the old, beleaguered elevator so I could get my luggage to my room. There are no closets, so I had to hang my clothes in an antique chifferobe that wasn't even wide enough to accommodate hangers. The worst part was the bed. It was hard as a rock, and I woke up with shooting back pain only an hour after falling asleep. The television got very few channels, and the reception was terrible, even though it appeared that there was cable service. There wasn't a comfortable chair to sit in - just a very pretty, but not very practical, antique chair. The lighting in the room was poor, and there was no desk or table to set up my laptop. I checked out after one night and stayed elsewhere. If you like quaint and don't require any amenities, you may like this hotel. If you are a business traveler and like some modern hotel conveniences, stay away from this place--far, far away. read more

The place has an old world charm mixed in with a seedy short stay motel. The staff is very nice. The elevator is old and had to be operated by a staff member. I only used it once so that I wouldn't bother the staff. No breakfast. No parking. For the price they charged you would think these were automatic. Oh and please dust the rooms please. There is dust acumulating in corners of the room and on the water sprinklers and chandeliers in the rooms, why? I do not know the ceilings are your standard height. I will not be going back there again. read more

This hotel helped make for the most memorable twenty-first birthday a girl could have. I stayed here for a weekend in Miami just over two years ago, and the experience was magical. The old-fashioned elevator and the overall vintage French feel created the perfect escape from the modern Miami beach nightlife. I loved the authentic French windows, even with the bland view of the parking lot. They upgraded me to a junior suite- and I don't even think they knew it was my birthday! The bathroom was awesome; loved the authentically European bidet. The lack of a running restaurant kept this place from receiving five stars. read more

hmm...hmmmmmmmmmm....lets see where do i begin customer service: awesome. everyone refers to you as madam trying to keep with the french theme. the manager is suppppper duper. i was there as a bridesmaid and everyone got rooms from groupon but i was unable to do so and the deal expired called the manager boom bam bing got an even BETTER (cheaper) deal with her. parking; there is non you have to park across the street for 14 dollars a day or use the metered parking i had to park in the garage across the street and have them help me lug my bags back which i did not really appreciate but hey what do you expect its coral gables they actually did an awesome job at keeping up with the french theme except for the modern flat screen tv..everything was old-frenchy! however the hotel is very old and rusty faucent old and rusty there was carpet on the floor in the hallway but with every step there was the crick crack of the old wood floor masked by the carpeting. i literally felt like with every step the floor may just cave in... it really was NOT for me i have been modernized... im sorry overpriced, but than again it is in coral gables. if that same hotel was located somewhere else it would probably be only 30 bucks per night. i feel bad because the service was really nice check in and out was super quick and easy. but i probably will not head back there.. it is not for me read more

Stayed here for 5 days in April 2010. Nice place, poor service. The hotel has so much potential but it is poorly managed and run. The facilities are quaint, rooms not bad but need an updated decor but everything worked. They are going through the motions but aren't really thinking about how they are turning off all future business. Great location + nice hotel + poor service = will not be back read more

My husband and I stayed here for a friend's wedding - most of the out of town guests splurged and stayed at the nearby Hyatt but since we are locals it didn't seem necessary to upgrade our stay... Basically, this is the Spirit Airlines of hotels: incredibly basic and serves its purpose but there are no frills here - they don't even clean your bathroom as part of the housekeeping service. It's a great alternative to the pricey hotels in the are but paying anything more than 129$ a night (hotels.com deal) would be a complete crime. If all you need is a place to lay your head and shower in a bathroom that is not cleaned during your stay then this place will surely do the job.
