My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hotel Schiphol last month when we were in Amsterdam for the Amsterdam Aviation Collectors' Fair, which was held at this hotel. When we landed at AMS airport, we waited in the hotel shuttle area for about a half hour before the Hotel Schiphol shuttle arrived. It was a large shuttle, the size of a bus, and filled up quickly. The shuttle was free, which was fantastic. Check-in was quick and easy. There were several desk clerks working when we arrived. We were asked to estimate how much money we thought we would be spending at the hotel restaurants and they used that amount to estimate the hold amount that they placed on my credit card. I thought that was an interesting approach. In the US, you really don't have a choice in the amount that they place on hold on your credit card at hotels. We had a "deluxe" room, which was huge. There was a massive walk-in rain shower and a huge jetted bathtub in the bathroom. They do not provide wash cloths or kleenex, so know that you will need to bring those items if you use them. The bed was comfortable and the hotel had very good sound-proofing. Even though the hotel was close to the airport (although not in walking distance), there wasn't a lot of loud air traffic noise. The breakfast buffet, which costs extra but was included in our room price, was huge, with a lot of variety in pastries, hot items, juices, etc. The breakfast hours were very generous. You could enter any time until 11 am! This was especially nice when you were tired from jet-lag and didn't want to get up early for breakfast. The hotel restaurants were very good (we especially liked the Brasserie for lunch) and there are other nearby restaurants just a short walk across the parking lot. The hotel also had two self-serve mini marts, with snacks and beverages for purchase. We did not use the pool or workout facilities, so I cannot comment on those. We would definitely stay at the Hotel Schiphol again. read more

Great hotel for quick airport stay. My flight was canceled so airline booked us here. Free shuttle to hotel was a convenience. We arrive a little after their restaurant closed so the front desk got us into our room and then served us pizza, drink and ice cream. It was a welcomed gesture considering we were so stressed from our cancelled flight. The room is clean, modern, and roomy. Each room comes with complimentary toiletry bags which have toothpaste, toothbrush, comb, etc. The common area is really pretty. The location is far from the city, so this a good place to have a quick stay. I wouldn't recommend it for exploring Amsterdam. I enjoyed my one-night stay here. read more

I originally wrote a 3 star review for this hotel, but after staying here for 2 weeks, this is a definite no. The shuttle that takes you to and from the hotel leaves every 40 minutes (because it takes about 20 minutes to get to and from), therefore it marketing that it's supremely close to the airport is false. In addition, the shuttle LEAVES EARLY. That's right. After having to take the shuttle every morning and every evening, it will leave about 5 minutes early. I'm not sure if the driver is lazy or what, but it resulted in us having to take a taxi for 55 euros. When we got to the hotel, as the cab driver doesn't take credit card (make sure to ask taxis how much the fare is and if they take credit cards before hopping in), the hotel has no ATM machine and was refusing to exchange cash for credit card. It wasn't until one of my coworkers started to appear extremely annoyed that the manager allowed the transaction. The hotel staff needs a ton of training. The reception staff appear apathetic to traveler needs, and this hotel lacks all the basic amenities such as tissues, an alarm clock, lotion, and hair conditioner. After spending 2 weeks here, I can see bugs in the management system, especially the horrendous shuttle driver who is too lazy to stick with the scheduled transit time. This hotel makes the case of why it's always on sale, and at a cheap price. Be weary if you're staying at this hotel. read more

I stayed here with a large party, and I must say the vast majority of us found our experience to be severely lacking. The hotel rooms were large and updated, however the layout was weird with the toilet in a separate compartment than the sink. The shuttle only runs about every 40 minutes, so it can be a VERY long trip to the airport and back. Getting into downtown via public transportation is over an hour. We missed the last shuttle one day, and ended up having to spend 55 euros on a taxi, which is ridiculous given their "closeness" to the airport. The biggest complaint however, was with staff. The vast majority were extremely rude when checking in and during the stay, and were not welcoming at all. Given that we were a large party of 75 people, we were expecting to have a bit more friendly welcome. If given the opportunity, I would definitely stay elsewhere. read more

I selected this hotel mainly because of its location. Considering that the cost of staying at this hotel wasn't cheap, I was quite disappointed with my stay here. My room only had 2-3 outlets, and 2 of the outlets were already in use. For whatever reason, one outlet was near the light switch (??) that was several feet up from the floor which made that outlet useless - unless you are okay with having your phone dangle from the wall. The hotel layout was also quite bizarre. We had to take an elevator up to the second floor, and then take a different elevator back down to our hotel room. This was particularly frustrating since I was required to run back and forth between the lobby and my room several times due to various issues with my room and keycard. I forget when the check-in time was, but when I checked in, my card was not registered properly so I was unable to get into my room. So I had to take the stairs back to an elevator, go down this long hallways, take another elevator back to the lobby and speak to a receptionist to get this issue fixed. The receptionist had a bad attitude and did not even apologize for not registering my keycard properly. I did not put a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door before leaving to travel, and I truly regretted it. After coming back to my hotel room after a long day travelling in the Netherlands, I was horrified to see my pajamas, makeup, all of my papers thrown across the floor. Likewise, my friends belongings were also thrown on the floor. My bed and bedside table were clean but... seriously, is it that hard to be careful with a guests belongings?? I am honestly disgusted that the cleaning staff felt that it was acceptable to throw our belongings on the floor like that. Would I stay here again? Definitely not. I also would not recommend that any of my friends stay here in the future. The room itself was mediocre, some of the staff members were disrespectful and rude, and the room and service did not justify the cost of staying here. read more

I booked this hotel for an overnight layover for a pretty inexpensive price and because of the free shuttle to and from the airport. I uber'd to the hotel and that was about $10. The hotel check-in was really slow because of all the paperwork guests in front of me had to sign and there was only one lady at the desk. The staff was very welcoming. I was very relieved the restaurant in the hotel was still open when I arrived because I did not want to eat Burger King across the way. My room was very clean and had a modern look. The shower was open, which was definitely a very strange concept to me. The only downside I had was that there were no toiletries whatsoever in the bathroom besides 2 bottles of what I believe is body wash. The beds were really firm and comfortable. My flight was at 8AM and I was afraid I'd miss it because the shuttle runs at I believe 6? I was worried I wouldn't have time to find my terminal to do all my VAT paperwork (since I heard the lines get long), and eat a good breakfast. Fortunately enough I had time to do all of that! Hotel is a located next to the A4 highway approximately 10km from the airport. Many guest stay over here and park their car to catch a flight. Parking probably is the biggest downside of this hotel. It is hard to find a parking spot and a long walk was the result. Having said that, the overall hotel is pretty good. Staff is friendly and supportive, breakfast okay with a good choice from the buffet. I was upgraded to an executive room in the "I am" part and I really loved it. Spacious room, excellent bed, walk-in power shower in the room, decorated with some inspiring art. It was good, really good. Overall score 4/5. read more

What a great place! Hotel is immaculate and affordable. Room service is great food and a very good price. The rooms are very clean and hot hot water. The guest bathrooms are almost of a 5 star hotel, I was blown away and so was my wife in the ladies bathroom. The pool and the "breathing" room really paid off. Free shuttle to the airport and costs around 14Euros for the train to down town Amsterdam. About a 15 minute drive from the Tulip place which was perfect. All in all, the perfect location for everything you want to do in that area. Glad my wife found this place. read more

Not sure what all the bad reviews are about. First time here, did my research. I put a lot of weight on other peoples reviews so I was a little bit wary. Chose This place because I had a late arrival into Amsterdam and they are close to the airport. The free shuttle was right on schedule, check in was a breeze, rooms are very spacious and nice although a bit dated, but apparently there are newer rooms and there is current renovation going on. The hotel is beautiful and nicely designed. I'm seeing that many of the poor reviews are from high maintenance and/or really cheap people, or from a one off experience of bad luck. I had an overnight layover in Amsterdam and my dad booked a room here for our family. The rooms were clean, no bodily fluids on the curtains (according to one Trip Advisor review that kind of freaked me out). Beds were comfy, even the little cot that I slept on. Blankets were super fluffy and pillow was just the right firmness. I had great sleep here. There's free wifi in the lobby, and depending on how close your room is to the lobby, there might be wifi in your room. The shuttle runs every 40ish minutes to and from the airport. It's free of charge. Once you arrive at Schiphol Airport, just follow signs to "hotel shuttle" and look for a bus with big white letters "Van Der Valk Schiphol A4" on it. It takes about 15-20 minutes each way. My parents and I also ate at the hotel restaurant in the lobby since we arrived late and it was rainy. Not such a great idea to go into the city even though we had planned on it. The restaurant was decent. The menu had a lot of various options and our server was very patient in explaining thing to us that were not in English. Food was okay, nothing amazing but not terrible. My only complaint is that there was a bumpin', roof rattling party going on in the basement. I think it was a wedding or something, but you could hear the dubstep-like music from the restaurant and in the lobby. It was ridiculously loud. I understand that hotels have party rooms, but wished that they would have been more considerate to the guests sleeping there. Luckily, I couldn't hear it from my room. read more

This has been a big let down start to finish. We are from San Francisco and needed a night at a cool spot in Amsterdam near the airport. THIS IS NOT THE PLACE. The online description is very misleading as the hotel is more like a motel or motor lodge which inspires memories of The Shining. Yikes! They shoved us over in the old part for no apparent reason then when I asked to be moved to a more comfortable, clean and updated room the woman at the front desk yelled at me and made me feel like a moron. The level of service at this hotel is SUB PAR to put it nicely. I will NEVER stay here again and will NEVER ever recommend this hotel to any of my friends in California. Very Sad. read more

This hotel was ok - mostly because of the price (cheap). It was located very close to the airport. Nice reception and public areas. Rooms weren't very nice. Old, kind of funky smell and outdated. We had one room with a malfunctioning light. When maintenance arrived, the first thing he said before we explained the problem was, I can't fix that light. If it doesn't turn on you just have to move. And then he didn't have keys or the means to move us. Also, I have no idea what was going on with the kids at this hotel. I like to think of myself as very kid tolerant, but there was a bounce house in the basement and it brought them over in hordes. Then they took control of the one elevator to play a 4 story game of hide and seek and wouldn't let you on to get to your room with your luggage. Booked my trip through one of their affiliates and my reservation was not in the system even though it was pre-paid. I had to wait an extra 20 minutes for them to fix it, not fun after a 30 hour trip. I don't understand the idea of having two small beds that you can slide together if you wish. It makes sense for Van der Valk but not for their guests. There is no frame around them so the mattresses will separate by themselves. Not very comfortable. Their breakfast was pretty good and also the price for the room was reasonable. read more

I stayed here unexpectedly after a canceled flight. The room was spotlessly clean and had a balcony overlooking a nice garden area. The breakfast buffet was huge and satisfying, full of foods to suit all tastes and nationalities. I also noticed they had a convenient 24 hour self-serve "shop" with food and sundries. read more

Hotel is somewhat close to the airport and they advertise that they have a shuttle bus that runs every 20 min however that is far from the truth. Last night we waited over an hour and 15 min for the bus after one drove right by without stopping. Then in the morning trying to get to the airport there must have been 75 people waiting for the bus. They crammed everyone on one bus and it was standing room only. This is a very dangerous thing to do considering the bus needs to use the freeway to get to the airport. Honestly, stay at Ibis, Best Western or anywhere else. Those shuttles come very frequently. read more

I loved this hotel! The beds are soft and pillowy, clean, and warm! Rooms include a double shower and a ginormous bath tub. Our room had a patio that was very nice. Breakfast in the morning is just absolutely fabulous. The entire hotel is beautiful with fresh tulips, chandeliers, and candles. I definitely recommend! read more
