This resort is placed perfectly on the strip in Cancun. There is so much to do and is right on the bus line. Staff is super friendly and makes you feel like you are royalty. They are constantly cleaning the resort and are more than helpful with anything you ever need. There is a 24 hour bar that also has sandwiches, fruit, nachos, and other things to eat anytime you are hungry. We loved this bar and loved the bartenders the best! The only reason I gave it a four instead of a five is, I feel like it needs some of its own activities amped up. The only activities we really had here were simple little ones at the pool or at the area where people can sit at a theater type place. If you want a really great time, you can be shuttle to another RIU property, which is so much fun! read more

My family and I went on vacation here. There's two buildings on property. There's the tall building (we stayed here years ago) and a small building. We stayed in the small building this time. There's also two ocean sides: rocky (near beach volleyball is played and good for collecting shells) and non-rocky side (water is clear and great for body surfing). There is a spa and gym on-site. Multiple pools and bars. Pros: Gorgeous ocean views. Great hotel layout with lots of palm trees. Very clean. Rooms were spacious. Bed was comfy. The mini fridge was packed with water bottles, pop, and beer. I had a balcony that overlooked the pool and ocean, which I loved. Staff are very nice. Band/singer that plays before the show were great. Food was good. Good selection of food options. Good selection of restaurant options. Each restaurant posts a menu (in multiple languages) for the day's meals. Buffet over looks ocean. Neutral/meh: this hotel loves their parties. Every day there's a different theme. Busses take people to the RIU Caribe. There is a discotech that opens after the evening's show. Restaurants work on a beeper system since they do not take reservations. Alcoholic drinks can be strong. Evening shows were OK some nights. Cons: when we checked in, my room was not ready. They told me that they woukd email me when it was ready (did not receive). Did eventually get my room. While they had activities (listed on app), not all of them were played/hard to find. If it's super windy out, the elevators don't go pass floor 2 in the small building. You have to use the stairs. We came on a windy day and one of the workers allowed us to use the service elevator because we didn't want to lug our luggage up to the 3rd floor. I had a great time here with my wife. There are some caveats I'll mention below, but me personally, it didn't really impact my stay. The staff were really friendly and accommodating. I didn't come across one staff member (across the restaurants, buffet, waiters, lobby bar etc) who I thought was rude or even unfriendly. Definitely made the experience a pleasure. I booked directly through the Riu website, and if you do that and opt into their free members program (Riu Class I think it's called), they'll offer you free transportation to and from the airport, which is super helpful because cabs are expensive in the Cancun area. Important thing to note, make sure you follow the instructions and book the cab (they call it a "transfer") through Destination Services, their third party provider, 7 days before you arrive. If you try and book a day before your trip, they'll tell you it's too late and you'll lose that benefit. And when you arrive, try and book the return cab trip asap also at the Destination Services table (they were set up near the stage when I was there), so you have that locked in and don't have to worry about it. Now that the logistics are out of the way, the room itself was a bit outdated maybe, nothing special and not super spacious, but it did have an amazing view of the beach and sea and nice little balcony to chill on. Minibar and fridge were stacked, with soda, beer cans, and even some tequila and vodka bottles in a dispenser. If you're a pool person, get to the pool area early (as in, 6am) to reserve a prime location lounge chair. I'm more of a beach person, but the days we did go to the pool, it was hard to find a beach chair because people get their towels and throw them on the chairs to "reserve" them super early. By midday, most of the chairs are taken. The swim up pool bar is really cool, and the pina coladas and mango margaritas were delicious. The infinity pool aspect within that pool facing the beach and ocean was also a beautiful view. The beach is beautiful, the water is nice and clear and that beautiful Caribbean blue. Sand is fine and white. The shoreline is pretty short, so even on the beach there's not a ton of room and you may also need to grab a beach chair in a good location on the earlier side, but it is possible. The sun starts going behind the hotel buildings by like 4, 4:30 so it casts a shadow and you end up losing sun a little early. The sun is strong and intense so use ample sunscreen accordingly. They have Riu parties at other Riu hotels and provide free shuttle service and entry, which is a nice perk. The party we went to was fun, with ample space, drinks flowing, and foam and performers. During the day they'll have random entertainment by the pool area, like a random belly flop competition. At night, they had a mariachi band and performers. It was cool, nothing crazy but was nice to keep entertained at night. The latest performance was around 10:30 or so. The food at the restaurants was ok. I thought the buffet was better, honestly. For the restaurants, there's no reservation system, so during busy days, you have to get there around 5:30 to line up for 6pm opening, and they'll either give you a table right there, or put your name on a list and give you a buzzer. Some people raved about the steakhouse but I thought the food was pretty basic. Toscana was the best, in my opinion. It's like a buffet for the appetizers, and they have a main a la carte menu. Nice decor. The buffet offers tons of great food, fresh fish, Mexican, American foods, desserts, tropical fruits like guava and papaya. They had octopus for a few nights and it was delicious. Overall a memorable and great experience. The hotel itself isn't really big, there's basically the row of restaurants and buffet, the stage, seating, and pool area, but for me it was enough. There were chairs and little coffee tables lining the walkway so you can sit and have a drink and enjoy the weather. The only smoking area, to my knowledge, was off in a corner overlooking the beach, which was nice but hard to light up a cigar with the wind there. I'd recommend this resort, and Riu in general. For what you get, it's a good deal and nice all-inclusive vacation for a good value. read more

Eek, this wasn't the best! We went here for my BFF's birthday; when she invited us, we just said yes without researching this spot (as she had already decided on this hotel), that was a mistake! When we checked in, we were first surprised at how small this Riu was, we have been to a handful of other Riu locations and they have all been pretty sprawling and impressive to look at, this one was not. When we first checked in and then went to the elevator to get upstairs to our room, we learned that the elevator does not always work at the ground level when it's windy, so you have to take the steps up to floor three (if I remember correctly) and then you can take the elevator from there. Well, that is an inconvenience when you have bags and frankly in general, however throughout the majority of our stay this is what we had to do. When we first got to our room, we looked for the room service menu (although the options don't seem to change from the various Riu locations), we couldn't find it, so I called the front desk to inquire and learned that they don't have room service. This was a huge bummer as my hubby and I go to all-inclusive resorts to indulge and overeat at all times LOL, so learning this hurt. The food in the buffet was good with lots of options, the restaurant food was just okay and generally speaking the desserts were subpar. The shows they put on at night were not great in my opinion, however the pool entertainment and club they have at night is fun. Lastly, they do not have enough pool chairs for the number of guests, it's not just about people waking up early to "reserve" good seats, they truly don't have enough. The entertainment was fun- trivia games, shows, water activities. The White Party at sister hotel Riu Caribe was so much fun! The only thing I would say needs improvement is the food at the buffet. There were a lot of food choices, but it just didn't taste very good. The food was better at the sit down restaurants. I read some of the reviews prior to coming here so my expectations were VERY low. But for the price that you pay, it exceeded my low expectations. For the price, there are many people checking in at check in time but the workers do their best. The rooms didn't seem as old as I expected, same for the bathrooms. Pretty clean and didn't have any issues, one room had issues with their AC. Service was great, the buffet is better than other all inclusive I've been too, tons of options and long hours so you can always get food. No room service though, their Italian restaurant was ok, we couldn't get into the steakhouse because we had a large group and went too late. Their bartenders are awesome and their drinks and service are good throughout the resort. They also have access to they're Riu party with shuttles which is also cool too. Adult only and definitely a party hotel. We were here for a Bach and it worked out well without breaking the bank! read more

First time visiting Cancun HOTEL Riu Cancun Was amazing Walking in to check in you get greeted by staff and some drinks for waiting Next they give you ur wristbands ( don't loose it cuz it's a fee to replace it) you get ur electricity card and door key plus some towel cards ( 1 card per towel return the towels and u get the card back that's key ! Drinks are limitless and so is the food at the restaurant there's 5 i believe .. the buffet is a must for breakfast and dinner .. we went to the steakhouse and the Italian one they were awesome . The staff was so great they are all fluent in inglish so don't worry , they definitely go above and beyond to make your stay that more pleasant. The drinks are made with generic alcohol so if you know ur high end liquors request it or make it a double , they also use recyclable cups so if you don't want to use those take your stainless steel tumblers and they will happily pour your drink in there and will keep it cool longer ... the sun is intense so take lots of sunscreen above 50 spf.. there's many pools to choose from so much entertainment and tours all around that you can purchase. Isla mujeres is 30 min away and the ferry is a 2 minute walk from there make sure to get the golf cart rental before you leave and rent it for the whole day it's cheaper than when you arrive to isla mujeres . The beach is beautiful my favorite time to be at the beach without cooking ur skin in the sun was around 4pm it's perfect to look for seashells lol. The hotel rooms do need an upgrade but let's be real your not there to stay inside . They provide you with a mini bar that gets restocked everyday ... spa services are available but not included ... The hotel was nasty, dirty, and completely unacceptable for the price we paid -- $3,500 for what felt like a rundown motel. I have no idea how this place has so many good reviews -- it's a scam. Don't be fooled. We had to change rooms, which caused us to miss our paid excursions. The staff promised to cover our transportation to make up for it, but -- surprise -- they never did. I recently spent 6 day at Riu Cancun and I'm rating my overall stay 3 stars. Note that back in May I spent 5 days at Riu Palace Las Americas (the resort next door) and I rated that one 4 stars and I would definitely recommend it over Riu Cancun. Staff Staff is always friendly and helpful. That's something I love about Mexico. Everyone works really hard especially the guys at the bars. Be sure to tip them because they deserve it. Check in I did the check-in online prior to my trip using the Riu app so the process was smooth and quick. Pools There are different pools. The bar pool which is where the drunk people spend most of their time. They always play some repetitive Spanish music (Bachata, Salsa) even though most of the guests are American, Canadian and even European. There should be more variety, not to mention there's a mix of music coming from the bar area and music from the entertainment staff in the adjacent pool so sometimes it's messy. The entertainment pool has better music and some daily activities but no bar. There is also a quiet pool on the other side of the hotel which includes a jacuzzi (with cold water!) go figure... Riu Palace Las Americas on the other hand has one big main pool with everything on it which is much better. Also you find more drunk and party people at Riu Cancun so keep that in mind. If you wake up before 9am you can always grab chairs and umbrellas at good locations. After 9 your choice might be very limited. Also note they due to the position of the buildings, they block the sun after 4pm in most of the pool. Beach Beach is nice, clean, quiet even on windy days but there are no umbrellas so we ended up staying in the pool and going to the beach just for a walk and swim. Entertainment Similar to Riu Palace Las Americas, the day time entertainment is nice, lots of games, but the evening entertainment is pretty bad. The shows are basically people dancing to playback music and the live bands are local bands playing Spanish music which, for us non-Spanish, get repetitive and boring. Once again, wheres the variety? One Spanish night and one top hits/pop/rock night. So if you visit this hotel don't expect a lot in the evening unless you go out to bars and clubs. The only fun night at the hotel was the silent disco so make sure you catch that! Riu Party There some parties at Riu Caribe which is a 5 minute ride away and they offer free shuttles to/from the hotel so those parties were nice. Jungle and White pool parties were very fun with lots of foam but the pink party wasn't nearly as great. No foam, annoying music. We didn't go to the Neon Party so we can't comment on that one. But overall if you like pool parties make sure you don't miss these. Restaurants For an all inclusive resort the food is pretty decent. We liked the buffet for breakfast and lunch but it wasn't good for dinner. Dinner food was almost the same as lunch, very limited choices. For dinner, make sure you visit the specialty restaurants and go before 7:30pm since they all close at 9:30pm and since there are no reservations if you go after 8pm you might not be able to get a table. When the restaurants are full you can leave your name, get a pager and wait by the bar until you're called. The wait time varies between 10 and 45 minutes depending how busy they are. The earlier you go the faster you'll get a table. We liked Kulinarium and La Toscana (Italian) restaurants (make sure you have the flan for desert which is the best!). But we didn't enjoy the steakhouse. The dish we ordered which was a mix with beef, chicken, sausage for 2 was very small and not very tasty. There's no room service and the only food option they offer after the buffet closes at 3:30pm and before dinner at 6pm or after 9:30pm when the restaurants close is the Sport bar. But the only thing they offer are low quality burgers, hot dogs and burritos which are stored in a fridge and need to be heated in a microwave. There should be at least a pizza place or a snack restaurant with fresh food especially after people come back from a night out. Room The only advantage of Riu Cancun compared to Riu Palace Las Americas is the room. There's a blackout curtain and lots of closet space and drawers. Our Riu Palace Las Americas room had very thin curtains so we couldn't sleep past 7am. But other than that rooms at both hotels are great. Check out Check out we also smooth. We asked for late checkout but they said it wasn't available but they allowed us to spend the day, have drinks, lunch. Also there are dressing rooms and showers near the reception area so you can always take a shower before catching your flight. read more

We just came from Riu Cancun and had such an amazing time!! I have stayed at three Riu resorts and can definitely say that if you're booking with Riu you know you'll have a good time. The rooms were nice (a little outdated but everything was in good condition) and I personally thought the restaurants were good (the Kawachi restaurant is amazing). We stayed in the pool bar area almost all day and had great service - it is definitely under staffed but the staff they do have work VERY hard! With that being said I will point out this resort has almost nothing to do at night. The other resorts I've stayed in always have fun things to do at night like game shows, karaoke, couples games, etc. this resort only ever had concerts at night and a "disco" that isn't very fun. Our group ended up going out of the resort to hang out in other clubs OR just hanging out by the bar downstairs. Other Rius also have way more stuff to do during the day (cornhole, volleyball tournaments, bachee ball) that this resort just doesn't have. We got a little bored sometimes. We did go to all of the parties they offer at the Caribe but we thought the day parties were boring. The night parties are WAY better. But if all you wanna do is sit by the pool and drink all day then this is definitely the right place. read more

We booked through Expedia two weeks before we left and paid $800 each for 5 days at this all inclusive resort for an ocean front room and a nonstop flight from BWI....At that price I really can't complain. This was advertised as a 5 star resort. It is more like a 4 star resort with very dated 3 star rooms. The staff are great! We were celebrating my friend's birthday and she just wanted to party and this place is definitely a party. Everyone was extremely nice and the resort was surprisingly clean. The white sand beach and clear blue water were pristine. This resort is a quick 8 minute walk to all of the nightlife on the main strip in Cancun. There were several restaurant options on site that I would say are above average for an all inclusive resort. The Italian restaurant has a pretty good salad bar. The main buffet had surprisingly good pizza, paella ( with mussels, crab legs, shrimp, etc), assorted fish, and chicken. This is a great option if you're on a budget. In the future I would probably spend a little more and stay at a resort with nicer rooms, but this is still a very good option for young people or people on a budget. Honestly one of the most beautiful, swimmable beaches I have ever seen. I still can't believe I paid $800 including a nonstop flight. I probably drank $800 in drinks during my stay. We went to this resort for summer vacation. It is a large resort with several pool areas and restaurant options. If anyone travels to all inclusive resorts in Mexico they are going to see this is par for the course with resort hotels. We had suites on the pool side facing the ocean. The rooms were large and more than enough for us. We had 2 (one with a king and one with two queens) the resort honored my request to have rooms beside each other. This is a plus as in the past that hasn't happened. Were there small things in the resorts that needed maintenance? Yes. But this is expected in a place that is not brand new. The food was average resort food. Not bad and definitely nothing to complain about. The service was top notch from the entertainment staff and bartenders. Would return. This was my first time on a plane and out of the country in nearly two years. I went to Cancun to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday. We stayed at Hotel Riu Cancun, all-inclusive hotel. Masks were mandatory in all common areas. Plus they had hand sanitizer throughout the property. At the buffet there was someone standing at the door as soon as you walked in giving you hand sanitizer which made me feel more comfortable. My friend and I would get one more squirt on the way out to use once we got to our table. The room was clean and included four different liquors, beer, seltzer and bottled water. We were on the 5th floor so the ocean view was perfect. Bonus, I could hear the ocean at night when I was going to sleep and waking up. The food was good at the buffet which is where we ate every meal. They had several other restaurants but I assumed due to lack of personal, they were unable to open the restaurants. You will see the variety of food in my pictures. I really enjoyed the mini chocolate croissants every morning for breakfast since at home I do not eat many carbs LOL. Breakfast offered a wide variety of options from any style of egg you can imagine, several proteins, fruit, French toast, potatoes and much more. As part of my fee I also received a free covid test at the hotel the day before my departure. They emailed the results within a few hours. I recommend taking a screenshot in case you cannot access your email once you get to the airport. They offered a show outdoors every night that was entertaining. There was a dj and games at the pool during the day. And if we wanted to check out the beach it was a few steps down from the pool. The hotel is in walking distance to a holistic spa and lots of souvenir shops. I also suggest checking out the grocery store. I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Riu Cancun. Plus the price was reasonable for all you can eat and drink. FYI the bar opens at 10 AM and closes at either 12 or 1 AM. read more

Good Hotel with everything included. It was a ladies trip and we decided to booked this hotel. All rooms have balcony with sea view, which is great. The rooms were good, pretty decent. They need microwave in the rooms. They have like 4 bottles of rum and vodka in each room. The fridge is pack with soda, water and beer. They have different restaurants and you will need reservations for almost all of them, the only one you can go without reservation is the buffet. The steak and the sushi restaurant were the best. The buffet is good, nothing extraordinary but they have a lot of varieties. My personal favorite was the Dessert table haha! The Infinity pool is beautiful, but for getting good pool chairs you need to wake up around 8:30 am and place your stuffs or at least something in top of them. They have 2 more pools but almost eveyrone wants to be at the infinity Pool. A bar is located inside of the Infinity Pool. Drinks are good , they don't use brand names but they are decent. Ask for a Gran Jurado Tequila shot, is very smooth. I don't recommend the wine, taste like vinegar. The shows at night are nice but they need more themes. Views are beautiful and the pina coladas are non stop! The room is comfortable and the jr. suites have beautiful views! For the price and experience this place can't be beat. Be very cautious booking this hotel, particularly directly with the hotel and outside of a package. We booked directly on their website, and was promised free return transportation as part of the booking, but no one was there to meet us (we were on time). We spent 45 minutes on the phone with the hotel, being put on hold and passed around mostly, before an employee told us we had to find our own to the hotel. That cost $117 US for 2 people which is an insane amount (coming from Canada). At the hotel no apology was ever given. The front desk staff denied it was their responsibility and told us to talk to Departure Services, the company they sub-contract transfers to. That company of course said they only take direction from the hotel. After wasting time every day trying to resolve this, and providing the email proof of their failure to reply to my last email on December 11th, on day 5 of a 7 day trip I was finally assured I would have a shuttle back, but that no refund would be provided because I hadn't given them enough notice of my flight # (not the departure time, just the flight #) for my return flight on December 23rd. I said that was not an acceptable reason to refuse to pick us up on December 16th. The next day I was told I would be refunded the amount for the taxi, and multiple staff behaved as though they were doing me some kind of favour instead of the bare minimum. Guess what - 15 days later no refund within the 7-14 day window promised. My boyfriend and I stayed for 6 days and 5 nights. If you are young and like to party, this is the place to be! There is always something going on at the resort, from beach parties, sport competitions, karaoke, silent headphone nights, & more. The rooms were clean, and we had a great view of the ocean from our hotel room. Before arriving, I saw some people complain about the beach being narrow, but it didn't really bother us. There were always chairs available at the beach and pool, and if you feel like you're too close to someone, just move your chair lol! But it felt great to meet and talk to other guests, most are from all over the world. Now the food... this is why they get 4 out of 5 stars. The buffet was good for any meal, but the themed restaurants need some work. The Japanese restaurant was the best, but the steak house was terrible. The food had no seasoning whatsoever. But in case u miss a meal, there's also snacks in the Sports Bar you can heat up. The staff at the hotel were also very nice, they all need a raise for the service we received. I definitely would recommend doing some excursions as well. We went to Xplor park, scuba diving, as well as a half-day trip to Isla Mujeres. Probably the best hotel I stayed in. I've had the opportunity to try others and hands down, this place is the best in location and staff. My room had a full mini bar!! The room had ocean view and the beat part it was all-inclusive! Great food, drinks, and ambiance. I must say, the concierge Ruben was super friendly. He greeted us and gave us the details of floor plan and what to do in Cancun. Room again was 5star! I was surprised that the excursions were all connected to this hotel. I felt safe and comfortable and would definitely return to this hotel. I went in May 2023, boy it was super sunny and humid. You pack light, and bring plenty of low bills for tipping. Giving this hotel a 2/5 due to the fact of it were a 3/5 I would consider staying here again, we won't. Things we discovered while being here to take into account before you book your vacation: 1) Facilities: the hotel itself is run down. The repairs that have been made have horrible craftsmanship. Tiles are missing in the showers and pools. Paint drips are all over the place from the ceiling. Metal door frames and shower frames are rusting. 2) Rooms: I booked a junior suite with an ocean view with one king bed. The room had a great view and overall was pretty nice. The king bed was not a king bed. They took two small size beds, maybe twins, and pushed them together. Our TV did not work and also needed to be replaced. WiFi worked good with no issues. 3) Pool: The pools were dirty, very cloudy, and needed repairs. There were multiple broken lights in the pool. Lights that were hanging by their electrical cords still in the pool. There were multiple spots where tiles were missing. If you intend to get a lounger by the pool you will need to be down by 830a to get one, it's a mad rush to get a spot and people reserve them all day. The pool was 4.75 ft deep at it shallowest point making it not ideal for kids or short adults. They did have one bench spot in the pool that was crowded most of the day. The loungers and umbrellas were very old and could use an update. 4) Food: Food was ok. I'd give it a 3.5/5. We ate at the buffet mostly because it did offer a lot of variety. The other restaurants were limited and their food wasn't much better than the buffet. I would recommend using the Mexican food line as it was always the best. Omelets were awesome in the morning. 5) Service: Service here is a 1.5/5. They do not have enough staff to serve the pool side and beach areas. In 7 days I got served only twice. The rest of the time I had to get up and go get my own beverages. Second night we were here we needed two replacements for bedding. I called the front desk and they told me it would be 10 minutes. After an hour and a half I went to get them myself. Had to go wait again. After another half hour I went back down and demanded the bedding. After two and a half hours I got what I needed. 6) Entertainment: It's horrible. Shows were not good. The "kid" entertainment was for those three years of age or younger. The entertainment was more annoying than anything. 7) Family Friendly: It's not. The pools were too deep. No dedicated kid area. I would not recommend booking here. My wife and I went stayed here in August 2023 for 1 week. This was our first try at an all-inclusive vacation. We were more than pleasantly surprised to find that the resort was as advertised. To the relentless constant cleaning, scrubbing, mopping of the janitorial staff to the smiles and warm greetings from the food service staff ( thank you Yendy), to the outstanding bar tenders like Sequeo and David at the swim up bar. With that, we had such a good time that we couldn't wait to go back! So we decided to do it up again sooner than later and went to the Riu Cancun again in January 2024. We were not disappointed :) in fact, we were amazed that 6 months later, the same bar staff were excited to see my wife and I again...they even remembered and started pouring our drinks without prompting (they remembered what we drank from our previous visit). Staff 4/5 Staff at the front desk are lovely. Got my COVID test printed out by them. Excellent service by theatre, the server named Yiyo went above and beyond! Cheerful personality & attentive to our needs during our stay by the bar. One star docked because of staff by the beach sitting area. Went to eat 40 mins before they closing & stood in line, for no one to seat me. A couple who clearly was in line after me was seated before me?! I had to call on someone to ask if they were even open. (This lady clearly seeing that the couple got sat before me). And a lady server just waved to go in, (no table assigned) so I just sat myself wherever! Hotel Amenities (2/5) : For a hotel that is classified as a 5 star hotel, & not have room service is kind of a joke. Buffet has limited hours. And then after 10:30pm, you're left with the sports bar that provides a sad choice of pre made hot dogs & hamburgers ready to microwave as you aren't allowed to bring food to your room from the buffet. Infinity pool(not heated) is awesome but the temperature is colder than it is at the beach. Beachfront access is a plus. Room has a great view of the beach. Room (3/5) Old but spacious room with a balcony (& a view of the beach). Sheets: 2 thin sheets are provided as blankets & tucked in the closet, they provide something in reminiscent of a old fuzzy comforter. Only 3 pillows were provided but more can be provided upon request. Mini bar: Mini bar fully stocked with different kinds of alcohol, soda and bottled water. And refilled upon request. read more

WOW... reading some of these reviews astounds me! I guess the easiest way to sum up this place is you get what you pay for! Look, is this place a top luxury resort with Michelin star rated restaurants, NO. But, if you want that go somewhere and pay for it!!! Yes, the rooms are a little dated but ours was clean and everything worked properly, plenty of hot water, clean sheets, safe and stocked mini-bar in the room! Honestly we basically spent very little time in the room when other than we woke up and stay on the balcony to watch the sunrise in the morning, then when we showered and when we went to sleep. If you are in your room more than that, just stay home! The pools were amazing, as Riu Cancun is adult only I didn't care that the depth of the pool was a little "deep". There are, I think, 4 main pool areas, the swim up bar pool (where mostly young kids, and party people go. The "center" pool where they do aquafit and volleyball, etc. Then 2 pools one on the far right and the far left. The pool off to the far right is VERY quiet and nice if you just want some chill time and the far left pool (if you are looking out at the ocean) is a bit of a mix of the swim up bar and and center pool. So you have plenty of options. My one "gripe" is that the spa, which is near the right pool is not heated, but I can guess because it is so big. A little bit of a disappointment but not a trip ruiner!!! The food is AMAZING for what you pay. First, I didn't even think about room service??? I'm in one of the most beautiful locations / beaches in the world and I really didn't spend that much time in the room. I will try and break down each restaurants as best I can. The buffet, where we ate the most was terrific. Yes, there are some things we found bland or just OK. But every time we ate there we found something incredibly delicious as well. So, if you don't like you got, leave it on your plate and get something else! Our favorite of the "formal" restaurants was the Italian. We ate their twice and I had 2 different entrees each time that I thoroughly enjoyed. My wife loved the lasagna so much she ordered it a second time and was not disappointed! The Japanese restaurant was also nice, the Gyoza and duck Ramen were quite good. My wife had the tempura Shrimp and I had the Yakisoba. Both were very delicicious. The Steakhouse was good as well, now we are from Texas so we think we have some of the best cows in the world! We they that level, NO, but they were cooked to order and quite good. The "Kulminaria (SP?)" was probably our least favorite. But not because the food was bad, we just enjoyed it the least of other places. The snack bar is a nice little place near the pool bar that had simple food in case you missed breakfast or lunch. You can always get fresh pico de Gallo or guacamole or fresh fruit. When we were there each day they had 2 different meat choices that you could make tacos or nachos with and they always had burger patties or hot dogs. I never tried the last 2 because I would make myself some great nachos that filled me up before dinner. The "sports bar" which other travelers seem to complain about isn't meant to be a restaurant! Think of it like a 24 hour quik trip or 7-eleven, or AM/PM, depending on what part of the country you are in, with an open bar. It is VERY simple fare with pre-made sandwiches, burgers, or hot dogs, that you can microwave. It's geared towards, sorry, the dumbasses, who stayed out all night drinking, didn't eat, and are no so hungry they can't wait till breakfast. Sorry, if you roll into the hotel and 0400 and there isn't a gourmet meal waiting for you to drunk eat, then I don't really feel bad for you! So, bottom line, if you are looking for an adults only clean place, with good food, with friendly staff and won't break your budget then I don't think you will be disappointed. If you are looking for Michelin star restaurants, 24 hour room service, a butler / maid to kiss your ass then go find it somewhere else! Just expect to pay triple what we paid for this place! read more

I love RIU CanCun. I've stayed many Times and will keep Coming back. The staff is amazing every room we have had at our numerous stays has been nothing short of amazing. Air conditioning i room Is a must for us and this place keeps it cool! Shopping on site or walking distance to shopping, pharmacy, Starbucks and nightlife. The drinks here are always great! I'm a buffet girl so for me the food was great, i love options. Bacon was a tad salty but it's bacon so no complaints. My husband wasnt a fan of the steak place because he likes a well done steak, I know... how dare he - med all day always for me! We personally do not like adults only and this place is not over run by kids. We always have a great time Meeting people and hanging out. The staff here from the cleaning crew, entertainment, our guy with Apple vacation (Vladimir), waitstaff and everyone in-between is fantastic. Huge shout out to Security/Management Juan Carlos for always going above and beyond. I just can't say enough about this place and can't wait to be back in December!! The rooms are outdated, gross, literally a toilet scrubber in the bathroom, the "one bedroom" has two twin beds pushed together, you can't control the AC, the water for the shower/sink stinks and shower does not get hot!! It's all inclusive, however no room serviced, no food sent to ur room and the buffet/ restaurants close early. By 10:00 PM. The pool area, u get one towel per room and have to leave ur room card. So if ur a couple, u share a towel. The good thing about the resort is, the view of ocean, the pool area and the sports bar has a pool table. I stood at a RIU in Cabo, it wasn't bad so I thought this one would be good or better however it's horrible. If I didn't pay so much, I'd return home. read more

Then we were told we couldn't eat the pizza in the lobby because of the smell So they sent us out to the patio with the smokers....
