This hotel was such a great value! The location in Leidseplein is very convenient. If I were to visit Amsterdam again I would probably try to stay in a different neighborhood since Centrum has zero charm, but for getting to all the tourist sites you can't beat a 5-minute walk to the downtown area. It's also very convenient to the airport: the 197 bus goes directly to Leidseplein for only about €5!
This is a budget hotel, so don't expect luxury. My room was small but comfortable, and the price (€70 a night) was very reasonable for a private room with an en suite bathroom. The radiator is adjustable so you can make your room as hot or cold as you like. I booked online and paid in advance, which was very straightforward.
Warning that the walls are VERY thin. I'm pretty sure I could hear a phone vibrating in the next room. That being said, everyone in the hotel was pretty quiet so it didn't bother me. The rooms are also a bit dim inside, but my room had a balcony so it wasn't a problem in the daytime.
There is free breakfast: warm rolls/croissants, hard boiled eggs, deli meat, cheese, yogurt, and hand fruit. Plenty of options, and you can pet the friendly resident cat while you eat :)
As a bonus, the employees here are so warm and pleasant. I'm pretty sure it's a family owned property since there were always the same 3 people working reception. You leave your key at the desk when you go out so you don't have to worry about keeping track of anything. And it seems very safe--I accidentally left my door unlocked one day (whoops!) and everything was fine.
Overall I would not hesitate to recommend Prinsen Hotel as an excellent budget option! read more
